"working on something secret for PC and Mac"

I'm going to guess either planetary landing or Thargoids (or whatever they are called). It would be cool of it turned out the aliens were from another galaxy or dimension and you could travel there.

Long LONG before planetary landing we will see walking on stations and ships. It much less complicated than creating complex stations on colonies on planets.

Yes, ship and station exploration will be first. I am pretty sure Frontier stated the expansions would appear in that order.

EVA would be required in order for planetary landings. Otherwise what you would do, fly to a planet and dock into a "bunker station"? That would be pointless.

I think FD understood their mistakes.
No Man's sky is about to release and in ED you're still on empty space and too much rules.

if it's not planets landing ED will be a useless game when NMS is out.

Do you understand when you say "planetary landing" how this is like saying "s" instead of "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"? :)

People brandish the term around like some holy grail, or magic alixir as if it's the answer to any/all problems in ED.

As I've asked countless times before... You fly down to your beautifully rendered planet... Land... And then you __________ <----- Insert a huge list of game play to make this worth while.

The current game play in ED is too thin already. The last thing we need is "thin planetary landings added." We need the existing stuff improved/enhanced to what it so easily could/should be first (IMHO).

Planetary landing is far in the future
Before that you need to add walking in ships and stations (way smaller than a planet)
Then you need to add the equivalent of quests or just basic interactions with either NPCs and players ie being able to kill or rob someone
How does it work? Is there also police on stations? Are there thugs there? Can you go into another docked ship and steal things? Can you steal another ship?

I mean there are a massive load of options that immediately are needed to be implemented as soon as you are actually walking somewhere and want to create a living universe
So I doubt very much this is actually in the works as a priority because this would make ED become an MMO with quests and sandbox features which is awesome but look at the amount of work this would require for a game that is only a one time cost. These mmo features need to be paid by loads of revenues and or ingame sales. I don t see this happening even if I would sell a first born to be able to take EVE's market, ED's game and add WOW's quest system and freedom

Thargoids
10 extra ships... Including the free extra ship for beta backers
Wings of up to 10
Npc wingman
Planet landing
Walking round ships and stations
Co pilots
And the moon on a stick please

I knew I had one somewhere...

From the top of my head...

These only apply to potential game play on planets/moons without an atmosphere...later stages of planetary landings (gas giants, earth-like worlds with wild life and cities) not included. These would of course add even more possibilities.

  • Take photos of locations (spy missions, or prepping missions for colonization)
  • Do bombing raids on factories/pirate bases.
  • Launch probes into the ground for detailed scans and samples.
  • Deploy mining devices.
  • Scoop rare organic compounds from geysers on ice worlds with and underground ocean.
  • Potentially find rare ruins or other artifacts from long lost civilizations.
  • Maybe be able to deploy a remote controlled vehicle of some sort for more detailed interactions.

And yes, do normal "station stuff" on planets side bases/settlements of course.

Also, taking in the sights. Maybe not "gameplay", but getting the sense of scale of the gameworld and more varied environments would greatly enhance the experience.

All things that can happen on a world without atmosphere and still from within the cockpit.

Can probably come up with even more examples...but I have a nebula to explore at the moment! :)

Yessish. You poured petrol onto the fire of speculation for E3 with the Squeeeeee! When E3 turned out to be a damp squid for many, some blamed you. I'm with Alien: If you cannot say anything worthwhile due to an NDA, it is better to say absolutely nothing (but better still to use your inside influence to get FD to give sensible hints that don't give their trade secrets away, but calm things down and provides some degree of comfort). "I've seen awesome stuff but I'm not allowed to tell you" sounds like a 7 year-old bragging to his mates.

I totally agree with this post and the post by Alien.

I totally don't.

People can't complain about Kerrash saying something like that when so many at the same time begs him to "spill the beans". Considering how up in arms some are here on the forum about "the direction of the game" can you really blame him? Put yourself in his shoes...you see people complaining about this or that feature and how things "never going to happen" while you yourself might know for a fact that these very things most certainly WILL happen even if you don't have an exact date when that will take place. Don't you think you would like to try to calm people down by saying something like that? I'm pretty sure you would...

and you sound like a gnaryl old man/woman.

the role of the ambassadors is clearly NOT to tell (or even more laughably influence) FDEV how some wannabe power brokers inside a small part of the community (aka us lot) would like the business to be run. how ignorant can one be?

kerrash et al have done a sterling job at creating positive vibes about a game called Elite Dangerous and by proxy getting it into the hands of many many many thankful commanders. you understand the basics of that yes? and how it is the lifeblood of this community? they are working their guts out quite literally.

if you do not understand how worthwhile #squeee is, well maybe you are just not with it buddy (as i already said, you sound like a gnarly old man/woman)

negatory rep handed out

:/

here lies hidden the funny smarmy bit at the end to be taken with lots of salt pinches but containing a simple truth
you have heard the term evangelising? you know why the church of elite needs ministers? it certainly could not be run with heathens like yourself ;)

This could not be more correct.

Trouble is this is how FD's E3 and PP announcements were perceived setting them up for the fall.
Saying something will be cool while not saying what it is has potential to lead to another fall.
Even if Kerrash says cool stuff is coming it is subjective and liable to be viewed in a totally different way by others. He also admits he has no idea what will happen when so doesn't really know the FD plan but has just seen some cool work in progress they may or may not have been viewed in context.
PP is a case in point, FD told us how really cool it was going to be but many people ended feeling let down and in turn made the E3 thing even worse, probably why FD keep their mouth's shut.

I understand the being an ambassador thing but keep it to promoting what we have or know we will be getting not what may or may not come to pass
Anyway my fingers and toes are still firmly crossed

Well excuse me if I'm missing the blinkin' obvious but Kerrash being excited about the game seems to be pretty much what his show has been about for the past year and a half.

I really can't see how it would work any other way.

"Welcome to your community Elite show. Nothing is happening and all of you refuse to acknowledge the existential pointlessness of your existence. This game fails to provide you with the necessary escapism you require to avoid your dull pathetic lives. Watch me trade...trade...trade...trade.. Next week more trading"

He gets to see some stuff Frontier are working on and says he's excited about it and that's a terrible terrible thing because his excitement for something wasn't shared by you.

Isn't that just "Stop liking what I don't like".

Stop making me too excited about things I might not be excited about.
