What is the 'endgame'?

So I've been roving around space for a few days now. I have a Cobra Mk3 and the only upgrade I'm seeing that I want from this point is an Anaconda or a Type5 heavy, which are both several million. Up until this point, my motivation has largely been to get a fancier ship, and I've done a little bit of trading and deliveries, but most of my money has come from bounty hunting and, more recently, high conflict zones where I can net something like 200k in 20min.

I looked into power play, but a lot of it seems to basically boil down to "spend half an hour flying around for some extremely minor benefit". So far joining a Power has been more useful in terms of finding more people to blast out of space than it is for actually participating in power play.

At the point I'm at now, my Cobra 3 is pretty much fully-upgraded (its rebuy is about 150k now). I have the highest levels of all the parts and weapons I want. So now I'm realizing that all I have left to look forwards to is my next ship, which is still several million away.

Since the most cost-effective way to make money seems to be high conflict zones, I'm basically facing the reality that I might just be spending hours and hours cycling through the same big battle purely to earn cash, which I'll use for a better ship, and then... ... that's it? I 'won the game'? I can't think of anything else I'd do once I have my fully-upgraded Anaconda. It's not as if I'd need any money anymore beyond ensuring I have enough for rebuy. What is there left to do at that point? What other goals are there to shoot for once you have the biggest ship and best guns?

My philosophy thats kept me in the game for a good 900+ hours is try everything once. The endgame is essentially what you make of it.

I tried exploring, mining, trading, combat, community goals, PVP fights, PVP co-op and collaboration. Join a player group like the fuel rats or the guardians, or the pirates...
If you start to find the game a grind my advice is drop off for a while, play 1hr or 2hrs per week max until future updates then come back into the game stronger than ever. Worst thing you can do is overplay and leave the game for years since so much will have changed you may feel its too hard to come back to.

Further note: Recently I've been flying around starter systems offering advice and help getting started the same as Hellrazor's mentoring thread. Quite rewarding teaching someone if they are willing to be helped :p

Honestly mate, if you think a Conda is the only thing to aspire too, you wont have much fun in this game. Have a good browse of the forums, check out the exploration sub forums/you tube vids/ twitch streams. Plenty of stuff to do ingame, way too much for me to list right now.

I've said it quite a few times on here, the game only started for me once I had a fleet of ships & large bank balance. Still, If I started again I could happily just fly a Cobra & Viper and not get bored.

biggest ship youo can afford like the Anaconda i suppose is endgame at the mo...nothing more to this game at the mo apart from upgrading your ships etc. would be nice to have some really hard AI pilots to kill that only end gamers can kill and have to be in a wing with like ships too.

Have to make your own game at this point I'm afraid, until there are more ways to interact with the galaxy that is. To be fair I don't think you can say you have even scratched the surface of what is even currently available with an upgraded Cobra. Try trading, go off exploring, do missions to get a higher rank in the Empire or Federation, try piracy, try smuggling etc. etc.

There is no winning, there is only 'not losing'.

Seriously though, there is no 'end game'.

Start running Rares with your Cobra, then get a Type 7 and do a few days of Commodities trading using Thrudd's online trade tool to find good routes, then get yourself an Asp and head out into the unknown to collect a bunch of cool screenshots... then get bored and come back to human space and try mining, or get back into Powerplay.........

Personally, I was hoping FD would add more group support into the game so that we could actually have 'Guilds' and some minor Guild conflicts..... (Not looking good on this one though... FD and many on the forums equate Guilds with the Plague)

Really though, there is no end game. Just fly and have fun.

Have you taken your Conda into a SSS with no backup? I'll take my Python or Conda into one, sometimes against 8 ships, 20 minutes later I'm crawling home on life support with a big smile on my face.

Right, I did some mining and exploration too. Exploration seems pretty boring. You basically get to go from a solar system to another solar system that has a slightly-more-yellow sun and a red planet instead of a blue one. There isn't really anything new or exciting to discover like ancient wrecked ships, or lost technology or anything.

Mining was fun as far as mining goes, but it's pretty pointless. The monetary gains are the same or less than high-conflict warfare, and far less exciting. If the game had any kind of industry so you could use the materials, that'd be different (I love crafting in games), but if all mining is for is just another way to make money, then I'll stick to the high conflict battles.

At this point all I really see myself doing is maxing out my anaconda, then going off to some area of space and murdering everything until I get bored before putting the game down until more content shows up. Which seems kinda shallow for a $70 online game, but I guess the game is still growing.

I really hope they add some kind of industry/crafting at least. Being able to find rare technology via exploring, and gather materials for crafting via mining would do wonders for adding things to do.

Powerplay is being set up as Elite's "endgame", for players who've acquired the equipment they want and need something to spend their credits on. Read up on it and consider pledging to a Power.

What a curious little boy you are! I could answer to your question in a while but I don't want to spoil the surprise to you so I will tell you next other year, if you go onBHing to earn money, or next year, if you start trading, when you'll have money enough to buy a conda and fully maxfit it.
Until then... keep up the good work, pal!!!

The whole point of Elite is that there isn't an "End Game" or at least not one that Frontier will set you, you make your own End Game. Total freedom means just that, total freedom. You choose your end game if you feel you have to have one. Maybe it's to be an owner of an Anaconda, maybe it's to own or have owned every ship in the game. Maybe it's to get an Anaconda and make it A rated and visit Sagittarius A, or be Elite in all 3 categories. Or maybe you want to do ALL these things. It's up to you

In a sandbox, it's when you end the game - depends on you really.

I play solely for the VR experience on a daily basis, using what FD put at my disposal as an excuse to do so.

Hello OP,

I got bored somewhere around the Asp (recommend it over the Cobra - ducks for cover) in Feb (1.1) and again some time after 1.2 (post Lugh winning their independence).
Iset objeciives outside of guns and ships, I have spent April onwards, with some help from friends, trying to expand the influence of a Fed Corp (and a 2nd one as backup), in my chosen home area. You do the same mechanics that you know, they are not going to change any time soon, but they actually have a purpose - yes even the missions.

As above, I'm still working towards a fleet of ships & large bank balance. By then many things in the game will be in better shape.

Until then I'm out exploring. End game, when you die I guess either IRL or when your commander dies as you decide not to play any more.
