Remember when we were told guilds wouldn't be a thing?

Well guilds are going to be a thing!

Just watched "Tek Syndicates" latest video, where they interview Ed on on upcoming plans, well one of them is that we will be able to create our own groups with the ability to expand and the potential of become a power within the PP universe.

Ohhhh, cqc same day release as xbox... that's news to me.

Regarding the factions thing, that was talked about at some point in the last few weeks in a update or somewhere.

And you are surprised why, exactly? Yes FD made it clear that they did not want guilds. They also made it clear that they did not want an arena. Or hangars and module storage. Or crafting. Or player owned spaceports. And so on - indeed, most of the sort of stuff that normally comes with an MMO.

And then they changed their target audience, and went out of their way to attract pewpew and MMO fans. And guess what? Those fans want the stuff they see in the other games they play. They are making a noise about it on the forums. So FD are quietly rubbing out all those red lines. We can expect all of the above to appear over time (crafting is already announced).

Yeah, I got to agree; DB seems to be changing his opinions on several things. I just hope he doesn't screw up (change) the play modes in some way.

Already been said, but I'll add my voice here too:

Letting players setup a minor faction that they then can choose to support, but not control, is not the the same thing as guilds.

Always wanted this to be an MMo personaly. Anything that allows player co op and interaction . Crafting , why not . There have been calls for more game depth since beta therefore FD changing their minds and creating their own version of all the options you get in a traditional MMo is a good thing IMHO. Not too sure on the p2p thing though , that hasnt exactly been a great success has it?

Yeah, announced a few weeks back.

It does not change anything, Minor factions can become powers. Not a problrem as long as the proposed changes for powerplay come thruogh.
Powerplay as we are learning has a whole set of ED things. A guild/power cannot own territory, cannot restrict access and cannot limit membership. Not sure they are guilds in a way that annoys me.

Guild support, no, faction support, yes. We've known about this for quite some time. Though I do hope they make communications better for organising faction activities.

Great, why don't you start a kickstarter to raise DB another million bucks and see if he'll make you a game with third-person view only, pure WASD controls, no joystick allowed, and 1-9 keys to fire your various Ship Powers, like pretty fake black holes that make ships go spinny-spin-spin, and a quest structure where you can wait in line behind a hundred other players who'll take turns killing the same scripted space monster one by one?

This is Elite. If they make it what you want, it will suck. There's a reason I quit SWTOR. Some of the things they're doing will benefit the game, and some of the things they originally didn't want to do imho came from them never having made a major multiplayer game before, but I for one do not want to see this game turned into another Space WoW.

Funnilly enough I dont want any of those things at all, but MMo doesnt actually meen any of that but if that is your perception Ill not try to open your eyes . Ever play Jumpgate?

PowerPlay IS GUILDS. Why do people continue to deny that guilds are in the game?

It's a kind of thing, which is out of control - as soon as you create a multiplayer game, with elements of economy, political struggle and such, people start to organise themselves in groups, elect leaders, proclaim agenda. "Can't stop the signal, Mal.." It's natural. ED's guilds follow a somewhat relaxed approach: You pick your goals, connect with people, make an impact and then there's star imprinted in the pavement for you, just like in Hollywood - your group enters the power struggle arena. You can keep doing your chores, declare wars on groups, go about daily routine in any other way, so there is a measure of control, but a very relaxed one. No strings attached.

Not sure if I like current implementation (a.k.a lazy man's design), but I can understand the logic behind it. I am also the kind of guy who would never bother to "live active life within a group on a daily basis".

As long as guilds don't become mandatory or at least join one or be at a massive disadvantage, I don't see the problem with them being in the game.
