Overclockers are due to have some in stock any time now - could try their.

I believe Amazon are waiting for a delivery (so they tell my brother).

Does seem to be a run on the X52 pro at the moment!
Scan are estimating 10th Feb for a shipment at the moment, and prices are reasonable (though add £10 delivery on top of the stated £110). I checked with them this morning and they have 8 on order, and 4 of those were taken already. Well, 5 now.

You can get free shipping with Scan if you're a member of AVForums and/or Hexus forums. One is free, one is x% off or somesuch; I cannot remember which was free and which was discount, but Google will no doubt help you!

Too late! I'll remember it for the future though, thanks. :) Still cheaper than my abortive attempt to get it through Saitek directly...

Quick heads up about my controller - the Speedlink Black Widow - this is from a post I made on another forum:

Update:

It's now an absolute definite that the issue was caused by the joystick drivers - I had exactly the same problem with Strike Fighters 2, only my work around didn't work for that game. So to anyone experiencing bad slowdown with a Speedlink Black Widow flightstick in any game, before going through all the crap I did with graphical drivers, uninstall the stick's drivers and let Windows install its own plug and play driver. You'll lose vibration, but I'd much rather have smooth gameplay than vibration. ;)

Thanks again to everyone and I hope that helps people in the future.

Just in case anyone's having annoying slowdown issues in any game with that stick, give that a try. :)

Thank you, StarTux. Your insight prompted me to try disconnecting unnecessary USB devices. It turns out that there was a gamepad connected that I had forgotten about. As you pointed out, it must've been interfering with the throttle axis on the joystick. I use the throttle in forward only mode because I find full range difficult to use because the throttle on the joystick has no Centerpoint. Thanks again, I'll go see if I have that alpha forum access yet.

It just arrived. No hassle at all. They're still showing stock, but maybe only 1 or 2 left from the email conversation I had with them.

Thanks again, Yaffle.

And thanks Rob from me. Ordered this morning, dispatched this afternoon, hopefully delivered tomorrow. You do pay the full cost of P&P though so does make them more expensive than the recent Amazon bargain price.

As with other posts on restocking, they also state more x52 Pro in stock during February...

On a related but different note, pictures and info on the x55 and it's dual throttle (amongst other fresh spec elements) are about on the web. Any initial thoughts from people on whether the x55 as specced will be more useful or not than the x52 Pro in Elite:Dangerous?

Got myself the Alpha, struggled with keyboard/mouse then got myself a Thrustmaster TFlight Hotas X. The difference is huge. With the keyboard/mouse I was actually worrying that maybe ELITE: DANGEROUS wasn't for me. Too fiddly to control.

I was a little nervous about getting the joystick because I literally haven't used one since the early 80s. But it immediately felt natural.

Warthog Mod

I remembered seeing a quick useful mod for the curser/ministick on the throttle. The main problem with the curser is that its hard to move it smoothly, due to it being hard to get a grip with my finger tip. I had a root in my bookmarks and found it. I did a similar thing using a small piece of a grinding pad and a double sided sticky pad cut using a hole punch that I used for files. It took me less than 5 minutes to do [:)] This is the picture that inspired me. Sorry its a big picture

Just a heads up: X52 Pros arrived at distribution, so a lot of your fave retailers should be getting more stock in the next few days.

I did exactly the same thing and haven't looked back, my kids are signing up when its closer to release or for SC - that sounds at the moment more their 'thing' - so one of them may 'inherit' my joystick whilst I then have to invest in another... ;) X52pro or if its out the X55 reviews dependant.

Still not mastered or got to grips with the free look, although to be fair I have been to busy playing to have looked into it, but on a cursory investigation, its tied down to the mouse which means 3 hands are required :S

After last night I can't imagine playing this game without a throttle and stick, in fact any throttle and stick really I suspect. It's just so much fun and, to use that word again, immersive, that I never got with playing with mouse controls.

Another quick pointer with the Thrustmaster default setup, which after playing Alpha 1 and having no requirement for it, is the cargo scoop - no key is assigned against it.

You only have to go into the settings / controls and assign a key, I used [C] as it didn't pop up saying this was being used by any other function. This allows you to blow up the miners and collect their Cargo / Ore and fly close to the Anacondas to receive the $300(or $350?) reward.

When you target the cargo a blue box comes up in the target area and you have to line up the red canister in the blue cross hairs... simples, just approach it slowly :p

Yep it makes you a pirate and you gain a bounty on your head but at least you can earn credits that way too, so many games I enter and just scan for the cargo then fly around collecting it... Actually I'm not sure why I am sharing this as it will stop me making easy cash

Have noticed however that if you shoot a miner WHILST he is mining then they panic and zoom off in a straight line killing themselves on the asteroid, subsequently burying the cargo canister inside the rock making it irretrievable

Surely that is a bug - the miners should take evasive action and if they do hit an asteroid, would the canisters not float near the asteroid rather than be imbedded into it.
Have you reported this?

Supported Joysticks and Game Pads?

I have a old Thrustmaster game pad that I love and a Logitech Extreme 3d Pro I borrowed from a friend to try the Alpha with but I cant seem to find out where there is a supported peripherals list. Anyone throw me a bone on where to look.

Thanks
JP

There is not a specific list that I'm aware of. However a number of people have the 3-D Pro joystick including me. Others have various CH, Thrustmaster or Saitek HOTAS systems, others have game pads, while some prefer mice and keyboards.

There are a number of forum threads on controllers where people ask what is best and others say what they have. That is the best place to look for now.

X52 Pro back in stock (& cheap) at Dabs

Just a quick note to say, after shortages being reported with most vendors, it seems my x52 Pro has been dispatched.

I placed the order a couple of weeks ago with BT Shop (which is actually Dabs) at the bargain price of £109 including VAT, and just got an email to say it's been dispatched.

So I don't know many they have (plain "x52 non-pro" status is still showing awaiting stock), but if you're after one at non-exorbitant prices, dabs is showing them "in stock"

I have just ordered a X52 pro.

I was going to wait for the reviews of the X55 before buying but as the price at Amazon.co.uk has dropped to £107.44 I decided to take the plunge, I hope I don't regret it.
