And this is exactly why you see a bunch of pirates/PK'ers screaming for Solo to be lumped with Open mode now- because they've chased off all the "game".

The moral of the story here folks: "Sure, you've got the freedom to act like a complete jerk- but it doesn't mean people have to be around you, either."

This is why the Mobius Group is growing faster and faster.

1 year and the group is at 11,000 members, in the last month they gained 1,000 - the speed of people migrating is picking up.
More and more people are showing there is a desire for co-op/PvE gameplay, that you simply cannot do in Open PvP mode due to the actions of others.

Yep. Mobius answers the whole solo vs open debate. Co-Operative is what many folks want. I'm also detecting a bit of EVE'itus - they suffer with a huge volume of players playing within the 'safer' zones, because the actions of others discourage activity in the 'wolf' zones - quite rightly so as well. It's a problem we have in real life to; hunt something to extinction. Open is making its own bed. Cant blame folks for migrating to Mobius etc to play the game the way they want to. No one has the right to complain that they do / are. Maybe a lot of folks see OPEN as simply an arena mode to test mettle procured in SOLO / COOP. In which case, all you can do is listen to why they do it. OPEN players are equally unjust in their arguments to force OPEN play, as PVE / SOLO players asking PvPers not to PvP in OPEN.

While I can see why some people like solo mode it totally destroyed the immersion for me and I give up playing after couple hours in beta.
There should be some drawback of using solo mode like max ship size or money/gear from solo stay in solo or cargo size in half etc.
I guess fronter won't see other money from me for next expansions.

Yes, I noticed this when I played EVE. But when the hunting grounds ran dry, the wolves simply started to encroach on the safer zones! :D
Good fun and all, but instancing and the three play modes won't let that happen here.

+1 for sheer truthiness.

You are breaking your own immersion with your idea that playing Solo or Group mode is somehow unfair. In open it doesn't matter how a player got to the ship or cargo or anything else. The only thing that matters is what the other CMDR is using in that exact moment, whatever happened before is irrelevant.

I'm the complete opposite. In solo you encounter homogeneous other pilots. In open you have player and non-player pilots. Drawing attention to the fact there are NPCs and Players really hammers home you're just playing a game.

I guess Frontier won't see other money from me for next expansions.
Oh. My. God! This calls for immediate discussion.

Yes because pressing alt-f4 at your convenience and remove from universe is so immersive.
If i have an expensive cargo and i get attacked , alt-f4 problem solved. I try to fight somebody and he is losing he is pressing alt-f4 and vanishes, the definition of multilayer.

Should PowerPlay be Open play only?

Not sure if this is been discussed before, but I'm not sure why PP is available in Solo play as I though the purpose of PP was to get people playing together, but after finding out that lots of people hide in Solo when doing expansion fighting (amongst other things), kinda took some of the excitement away for me.

So there I was are, battling it out in Open, undermining systems to expand, and your enemy can simply undermine you in Solo without you being able to do anything about it. All seems very odd. :S

I understand Solo for the single player game but I dont understand it for PP.

Any thoughts? And do we think this will be changed?

What you are talking about is called, by Frontier, "Combat Logging" - it is nothing to do with the three game modes, single shared galaxy state or the ability to change game mode on a session-by-session basis.

You should be aware that combat logging in this manner is considered by Frontier to be an exploit and you can be reported to Frontier by other players for doing so.

Well is not like I am the only player or Elite is the only spaceship game.
In all fairness Elite looks like a rushed game , a bit thin on content for now, more like supercruise_online.

What you are describing is an exploit and it has absolutely nothing to do with Solo or Group mode or being able to switch between modes or anything else. It's irrelevant to this discussion.

Solo play was a compromise to those who didn't want an online game, especially those who gave a lot of money for the kick starter and then saw offline pulled late in development.
It was promised solo mode would be available instead and to start limiting PP, even if it's pants, to open would be completely against what they promised.

Just because you play in open doesn't mean everybody has to.

When there is no reward for the risk, why expose yourself in open undermining a system?
It needs to be fixed but only by offering an incentive to play open.

Hiding again? Not those cowardly, cheating, filthy, casual, ignorant, risk-averse, mode-switching, misanthropic, Solo players!

I have nothing against Solo play. I think pretty much everyone starts out in it until they can find their feet, and if you have no interest in PvP or community play then and just want to get on with it then it's great, but I thought PowerPlay's point was to be community driven play. Everyone battling against each other to make their chosen faction the strongest. The whole thing seems rather bizarre if everyone is playing it... on their own...
