So you want to play in Open, eh?

I am in the process of formulating something that will hopefully give the CODE a very bad day. I and many others don't appreciate you blockading a community event just because it was for a commodity that is basically worthless to a pirate. And don't even go into that nonsense about it breaking the rules of the competition. The rules said shouldn't, not mustn't or must not. It appears to me that the CODE was just trying to have fun at everyone else's expense. "Oh, they aren't having fun being chased out or killed? Man, sucks to be them."

And that is wrong on so many levels you'd need an elevator (read lift in England) to visit all of them.

I didn't blame the code, I just said they used an exploit which FD confirmed, I wasn't blaming them as loads of people used it, I was just pointing out what kind of people they are (as after FD announced it was cheating most players stopes using it, CODE didn't)

I was not playing for a while when the exploit was fixed, last I remember they said it was recharged via the hyper-drive, and Worked As Intended, along with Nav Beacons, Then it changed.

Yes basically you could nav lock, jump out and the nav lock dragged you back to the fight and that caused your shields to restore, process took about 10 seconds on most ships

They changed it after deciding it was an exploit and too powerful

The calls for removing open are just an excuse for the trolls to start an argument because people have the audacity to enjoy different aspects of the game than they do. This has been going on since release and it's tiresome.

Not really, CODE acting like <snip> in OPEN and giving it large in the forums is as good as trolling for a massive argument, and that is what CODE are after. That's why they do what they do..

EVEN Robert foresaw what was coming and the very first reply was:

Note to all considering responding - please remain civil. Failure to do so will result in thread closure for review and possible infractions.

This whole post was a trolling set-up knowing exactly what would ensue.

I read the OP and facepalmed extensively, read Roberts immediate comment and thought, oh well more folks to Mobius then. Why folks so hell-bent on cleaning out open mode? I just dont get it..

Lots of chest-pounding bollox in the OP, but also some very good points, so let's keep our eyes on that.

Platform immunity/dock invulnerability/dock response needs to be addressed. Once again the player base finds a cheese tactic and exploits it.

The lack of an Open "White Hat" group (beyond the mighty Fuel Rats) is pretty surprising. Well, not maybe that surprising, since this is the Internet and all, but at least a Black Hat group that likes pirate-on-pirate action just for lulz.

Shieldless anything is like walking through an unlocked max-security ward in a tight dress and a sign on your back reading "HUMP ME BROTHER JACKSON". When your inevitable demise occurs in Open, the rest of us consider it a blessing because of the positive consequences to the CMDR gene pool.

Solo skills do not equate to Open skills. It's a whole new kettle of fish. Don't expect your NPC Murder Death Machine to do as well in Open. Don't gripe when you are summarily dispatched by a more real-life skilled CMDR. Hopefully CQB will teach us solo artistes how to fight (I'm not going to drop 1M+ on insurance just to be a better CMDR's huckleberry).

And as always: you gotta love everybody, make them feel good about themselves :)

Your post is very interesting to me, because it underlines once again a lot of the irritation and strife that is always poisoning multiplayer, or Open as it is called in this game. As I just do not want to deal with that and waste my time and energy I lately have been ignoring Open more and more.
I discovered I truly have no need for other humans in my game. I even sometimes wish I could play solo in real life too :).

So, it is just an issue of semantics. No one dealt with them, they came here and called them names, and made demands for Open to be removed.

The problem with semantics is that sometimes there's no way around calling a spade a spade, regardless of how hard the spade is trying to caracterize itself as something other than a hole-making implement.

Here's a visual aid to illustrate this concept:

I think the problem with trying to get a white hat group or even a wing together is that the white hats have to chase and get in the black hats instance very quickly and reliably to be effective and that just doesn't really work.

Whereas the black hats can do their thing anywhere as soon as some unfortunate appears in their instance which does happen every easily. They don't have to chase the game it comes to them.

lol, that's what I mean by name calling . I can almost hear Braben now "Players in the community will deal with pirates and murderers by coming on the forum and calling them names".

Interesting post there....

My take on it, personal opinion here...

CODE knows the weak points in the game mechanics and exploits them for their own personal ends, they've done this all along, do it currently, and will continue to do it in the future.

As a PvP oriented gamer in most games I play, I must say, that's extremely disappointing, as the best PvPers do NOT make use of exploits, they avoid them, how sad to hear that CODE makes full use of them.

I don't see anything wrong with what the OP has written or wat code have done. This is exactly what spices up open and eventually will bring the depth we all want across Elite. Open should be dangerous, and exciting and it should force the kind of community, wing and group type dynamics the OP talks about.

what we need is more anarchy type systems, with more rewards and more risk, a bit like EVE has high and low sec space. This will force groups, make it dangerous but give us the fun.

This kinda says all you need to know. No other posts worth reading in this thread (including OP). Not to mean that everybody is wrong, but that Robert here already knew what kind of thread this was going to turn into, and so should you. (This also includes my previous posts)

That is just blaming the victim of abuse. Not cool imo..

And mine!

Robert, the true clairvoyant! Get the feeling he knows us better than we know ourselves?!

;-)

I can honestly say I had no idea there was a blockade going on. I went 4 times and just left the game running while I did other stuff like clean the bathroom and make lunch, I even went to pick up my kid at kindergarten once. You guys are the worst pirates ever! lol, worst blockade in history.
