So you want to play in Open, eh?

Well given their PR record lately and the mechanics of PP I wouldn't rate their chances of survival very highly to be honest.

The I am sure you would enjoy watching them get trashed. either way, all part of the fun. I am sure they would agree. But if 100000 XBOX players pledged, It would take more than just this forum to do something about it.

I can understand that, and I can understand frustrated players leaving open. But there has been more than one here using it as an excuse to further their own agenda i.e.scrapping open and there is a mega-thread for exactly that. I am in favour of organised piracy groups for the reasons I've already given but the pad blocking and other exploits that have been touched on here are not something I can support, even if it is within the rules; it is my opinion that it is wholly against the spirit of the rules and the game. Still don't think it's time to write the code off though, there will always be a few in a group who try to spoil it for everyone and I'd rather give Code the chance to police themselves.

Aye calling the 'shut down OPEN' thing is off topic and probably a kneejerk reaction. My concern through this whole post has been based on putting off curious players to open mode, more so, the folks on the wrong end of CODE during their rule flouting rampage, even more so bragging on a public ED forum where folks teetering, will be further put off from open, when there is already a huge huge series of threadnaughts on exactly this (going around in circles again and again I must add).

I'd be much more in favor of posts promoting open, than nonsence groups killing the fun for many, and putting off even more by forum adverts on why OPEN will suck the fun out of 'your' game.

Like I said before, CODE are just negative propaganda mongers, it's pointless in ED, and to be honest it needlessly de-promotes OPEN play, and posts like this encourage mechanic flouting which is just pitiful. Someone said the best PvPers do not need mechanic exploitation, so just goes to solidify my concerns.

In any case, we'll see what ensues around the 'gray' mechanics. I'm enjoying distant stars of the Galaxy right now, but this OP forum viking really isn't doing anyone any favors at all, sadly.

Based on their recent actions yes - I would enjoy it.

We can speculate all day and night about numbers but if you think the majority of the playerbase is pro-pirate then I think you're mistaken.

And I'd be happy to put real money on it.

Since all game modes are equally valid, I don't think frontier mind people going into solo. As it stands, the Open world is an excellent place for selecting the Commanders who can deal with the heat of random PvP. I suppose anyone can quit a game because they don;t like it, I have hundreds of games, can't play them all forever. FD are always releasing new content anyway, to keep people excited.
I want Open PvE as I Dont need the heat.
I dont mind if there is a second open for the guys which want that heat.

I don;t think that, I am just laying out a possibility. I never made that claim :) It is just not everyone is aware of the Code, and having them as an option in power-play means someone may just pledge for them without being aware of say, the "Mug" incident. They may have a cool avatar, and some good systems/perks. The 800000 player base is what counts (in ALL game modes), and that is about to get a whole lot bigger. The Code could even have an XBOX faction, they are organised enough to make sure they are one of the most popular clans.

According to the poll more people want Open PvE. So from that perspective the majority want a option without human pirates.

It was a poll of about 100 people that took place overnight. There are 820000 people who own this game. The poll means nothing in this context ;) It was about 50/50 as well, so not so clear cut. 51-46, two people selected the radical option.

Well I think they said themselves they had about 20 active members on this gig - even if we assume they have 10 times that it's not much in the great scheme of things.

And if you think a "cool" pirate avatar is going to pull in more people than a cute smurfette princess then frankly I'm convinced you have very little understanding of the playerbase.

:D

Alas, forum polls are pointless.
Apart from anyone can make an account and vote - without any proof of purchase, it means anyone can fake the results.
You also only get a small slice of the player base. About 10% was the last guess I've seen.

You need an in game poll, on the main menu. So everyone can see it and vote, and 1 person cannot just create 100 alts to vote with.

[snip!]

TL : DR Version
CODE isn't the problem. Technically, not even Frontier is the problem (although they've designed and caused it).

Put in an Image, IMHO this description fits best (mainly directed @ FDev and only to a lesser extent towards Ganker Groups doing their thing) :

What I find ironic is that you see Ed, Sando and David parading on multiple scenes, stating that everything is fine and dandy under the ED sun... There are absolutely no problems. ED is where they want it to be...

HAha, not everyone wants to follow Khalessi round like that dude from Game of Thrones ;) And wow, what a lot of noise 20 players made! Imagine what they could achieve with the support of Powerplay :)

I agree, the poll was pointless, it was just a knee jerk reaction to the Mug incident. Like the suggestion that Open be removed..

This is why people don't want to play in open. Code use cowardly practices to ruin the game for others. People don't want or like that. Call it a blockade but at the end of the day code players enjoy picking on and killing others. Those others don't enjoy that so they go to Mobius or solo.

That is fine though, because FD consider ALL game modes equally valid, as do I! Moebius is a valid choice for people who only want to have a more casual environment to play in.

Thread starter is right. Definitely !

All of us who want to do the next community goal in peace and in combat free environment should do it in a private group where combat pilots are not wanted AND NOT ACCEPTED.

I am a total newbie in this (just 1 week experience with this version, the previous was 1984 version in 1985 :p) but looks like here is a lot of demand for the peacful and nonviolent community goals too.

So why just let those who want to be bored do so and the rest of us go to that private group ? Or am I thinking something wrong ?

Yep I never said it wasn't. Pirating and killing others are perfectly legit game styles. Just don't expect people to play open if you keep doing it to them.

That does not stop them sneaking in to the group and killing players - which has been done.
So moving to a private group does not mean you get peace / combat free environment at all.

And as some people are happy to treat their save slot as a disposable resource, they just delete their CMDR once they get kicked and join again under a new name - and it starts again.

There is no way to have Elite as a multiplayer game and not have PvP.
