Making Salomé (Sen. Kahina Tijani Loren) a New Power

Allow me to no longer dance around the topic, but to take a very straight-forward approach. The Children of Raxxla want to see Salomé become a new power which will take a large amount of player effort and coordination. We are currently working on coordinating efforts between several groups to bring her to the forefront and increase her influence.

There are a few player groups who have already found and contacted us asking how they can help, many players who have pledged their allegiance to our cause and a faction willing to do their best to fight the good fight at the Prism system as representatives of Admiral Brice's and Ambassador Cuthrick Delaney's sphere of influence over the system.

I stopped using it because the creator was waving his copyright willy about (despite it containing FD copyright content) - Not worth a second of my life. Plus, no real Dark Wheel member ever admits to being a Dark Wheel member.

Children of Raxxla could be a Power. Kahina could not, I doubt very much that FD would allow it unless Drew officially waived all rights to the character.

Hmmm... so are you or aren't you? ;) --- You can PM me, I won't tell. So far as stipulations of Kahina becoming a power - He authorized us to use her as our leader, so if we become a power, she effectively becomes a power. We already have the image prepared on our website:

But you are not for profit, so its all lovely. A money making organisation would not be allowed (by its shareholders) to use copyright material without a legally binding agreement or possibly waiver (the legal costs of even checking that a waiver is watertight would be prohibitive).

I hope you make it, its all cool and a lot of good work, but dont be surprised when you do make it that your image does not contain her (any) face, and edicts are from your power are tagged "Children of Raxxla Ruling Body"

Breaking radio silence for a moment to address the copyright issue as there's some misdirection here.

Tl;Dr - There's no issue at all.

In the same way that FD licensed me in perpetuity to use both the Elite and Frontier logo in connection with my book, I can license FD (for free if I see fit) to use my character in game for perpetuity. This would be the work of an afternoon and a couple of signatures. This is done all the time and is not prohibitive in the slightest. It's not an issue as I certainly would not stand in the way if the CoR are successful.

It will be much harder work to get her to the point it becomes necessary. ;-)

FD will probably want to do their own artwork, but that would be their IP in any case.

So, I guess you'll be operating out of Prism and trying to expand influence from there?

You really think they let people write commercial books within their established IP without making sure they can use that?

Case in point, Loren was already featured in multiple GalNet articles. So yes, they can do that.

I think Salomé offers the best chance for players to actually make a meaningful and non-scripted impact on the political gameworld. So I hope no invisible barriers or 'rules' are put in place to stop this from happening if enough support warrants it. The backstory of this game could be allowed to flow from player actions and not be artificially steered by an unseen gamemaster - that just festers resentment when players work hard at something only to find out they wasted their time and never had a chance because "its not our vision".

If it succeeds, she should become a power, if it fails it should be because the support wasn't there or opposing factions made it so. (imho of course ;))

I personally find that fully dynamic systems lead to too much inconsistency in the game world and negatively impact the overall experience.

A balanced approach is preferable where the player base has an minor influence on the game world, but not to point of being able to for example make Senator Loren Empress just because the majority of the player base deemed it so.

In a galaxy wide simulation the impact of the player base would be minimal in tide of population unless they all come together and the tide isn't traveling in the opposite direction. I love the idea of the no win situation. Sometime tasks are impossible to achieve, but you should still have the freedom to try and see if you can achieve a goal, but it might not be guaranteed or even possible. This for me would then be a real simulation rather than a player driven dynamic simulation.

The articles featuring Senator Loren in Galnet prior up to July this year were written by me and published on Galnet with my permission.

From my perspective, Tahina is much more appealing as a leader than those we have for other Powers. Having read Drew's book, I feel empathy for her cause, I 'know' her and a story behind who she is and her goals. I feel somewhat 'invested' in her story. I feel nothing of that for ANY of the other Powers. Sorry Uncle Li, but if Kahina and her supporters becomes a Power, I'll be defecting right quick I suspect (even if that means I have to change my home system).
