Personnal AI Assitant, more life, more purpose

Okay.. I'll say it again.
Not sure where the toxicity is coming from, oh, wait, this is a gaming forum, almost forgot. IMO "meaningful interaction" is different for each individual and what is "fine" for some is unacceptable to others.

If this is something that can toggled on/off, what's the harm in it?

This sort of response to nearly every suggestion thread is unconstructive and tedious.

If it's a toggle option then you can't complain that it would hurt your experience. If you're opposed to the redirection of dev time towards something you personally don't want, then you're being selfish. If it somehow affects your grand view of the very essence of ED, then you need to realise that you're just playing a game and ultimately, none of this really matters.

So how about we let people post their imaginative ideas without the relentless and predictable barrage of negativity. Just a thought.
I think that 2D cartoon graphics would be great. I think it should be toggled on and off. The devs should spend half a year implementing this because it would be great. It can be toggled, so what's the harm in it? To be opposed to this use of dev time is to be selfish.

This is a stupid and childish line of thought.

It's not ED is the answer. It's not the intended experience. Your preferences of meaningful experience has little to do with it. And this is of course my opinion.

How about you post your imaginative ideas. How about you let others express their feelings about your imaginative ideas.

Oh, I get it. You only want people to agree with you, is that it? Anyone who disagrees is being negative or unconstructive (no matter how solid their supporting arguments may be) or is somehow preventing you from posting.
If you feel I'm somehow doing something wrong, report me. Let me know how well that goes.

@Rgconner

Did you learn to drive a car by just getting into one? No....

You probably read a book and watched videos, and had someone show you how to drive. (Probably anyway. Otherwise, what is a Dad supposed to do?)

Exactly, I've learned driving with someone in the car. Not in a book outside of a car or on youtube, I just learned signs in a book, not how to drive. Sadly there are no signs in space.

@Psycho Romeo

This line of logic is stupid and childish.

I am sorry for you if you think that, but everything is stupid and childish to you it seems.
It's a suggestion, and I didn't say this has to be done before anything else. It's just something I want to see in future updates.
I am sorry too to see how serious is the ED community.

And great, now you're making fun of me. Thanks.

Did you watch some of David Braben videos? How do you know it couldn't be part of the intended experience? Some ideas from Braben and the devs should make you bleed from your eyes and ears then.

Meaningful interactions are with other players, not with your AI companion.

What if I want to make my own personnal experience, playing solo, not following anyone else. You're also stating something as a fact when it's only your opinion, and the reflect of how you like to play the game.

Everything I said I used conditionnal, to share things I think could be cool, to discuss things. And of course "I" speak for myself, it is my opinion, I never said I was speaking for everyone.
I don't understand why some people always want to be so negative, unpleasant and provocative.
Some of you should go and stick with Space Engine (which is a great soft, I love it no sarcasm intended)

@Jiva

I love this idea! especially to hear that AI voice calmly say things like "I'm sorry Jon, I can't turn the life support back on" lol

But seriously, even just having it read info to you that you click on or when you scan might be cool.

Exactly! But why always should we be so serious? I'd love to hear that too, just how you described it.

Toxicity IS the word I was thinking of.

I changed my mind.

You sir, are in desperate need of an AI to assist you in communicating with others.

Some one code him one ASAP.

Yeah right.
I like to play from time to time with players, but I'm not into building a mmo guild or some s--t like this.
Also, the real idea is that the AI would be an ingame tutorial, not even to learn how to pilot your spaceship, but to understand the world of ED.
I said it before, people are not really reading, and focus on the ideas I defined myself as "crazy".

No, it's not a suggestion. It's a line of logic. I am pretty sure I said this in the specific passage I quoted. If anything about the line of logic that I quoted and called a childish line of logic indicated anything other than me thinking the quoted line of logic was childish, please point it out. I didn't say you said has to be implemented. I am literally pointing out a specific part of your post and saying that it is a childish line of thought. I even gave reasons as to why I felt it was a childish line of thought. What more is there?

You're choosing to see what you see, hence conner's remark.

And great, now you're making fun of me. Thanks.
Because what you're saying is ridiculous.

How do I know? I don't. I play the game. I know a thing or two about gaming. I spend a lot of time on the forums and watching the information FD puts out. There's little more that can be done.

Are you trolling? Or simply not reading? I specifically said that what I felt about ED's experience was my opinion because I had started getting the idea you were assuming I was speaking out of fact. However, if even overtly stating "and of course this is my opinion" is not good enough, I don't know what is.

Everything I said I used conditionnal, to share things I think could be cool, to discuss things. And of course "I" speak for myself, it is my opinion, I never said I was speaking for everyone.

If you want blind and undying support, pitch the suggestion to your mother.

If you want to have a discussion, post it on the forums. You better bring your big boy pants because not everyone will be as supportive as your mother. Don't get all defensive just because someone disagrees with you.

I won't continue this conversation because this could go forever, analysing every word of every answers. And it's going off topic.
But ok you're right, my suggestion is as stupid as 2d cartoon graphics in ED.
If you think I started to go "defensive", again... it is not because people disagreed, but because people focused on the last part of my suggestion, which were just crazy ideas I knew could break some people's mind here.
Because, in what world, ingame explanations of the universe and the features of a game is non sense.
My idea was to bring it in a way not to break the immersion and more into the "action". This is why i thought of an AI.
If you think this break the intended experience, well ok but I don't understand why, and I'll have to disagree.

Strong AI is banned according to lore. This is not an uncommon theme in SCI-FI. Butlarian revolt anyone?

To wit:
Hassan shook his head with a rueful grin. Artificial Intelligence was dumb, automechs especially so. There was some law about keeping it that way that he vaguely recalled from simschool.

Ok then, if you forget everything I said after "Crazier" in my original post, it is then totally doable. Provided that people all live by the laws in the world of ED...
Your spaceship is already commenting what you're doing, "power balanced, frame shift drive engaging...etc" even though you totally know you took the action, and you can even see it visually.
It even assist you by telling you to slow down.

I never said anything about an artificial consciousness, an AI is certainly dumb, just like google now, or siri are some kind of AI assistant, and they are terribly dumb.

We have a B'ing Betty, what more do you want?

I "want" a live ingame talking wiki which you could enable through contextual menus.

I'm not really sure how it should be done, for instance, very quickly:

Checking mining equipments: more about mining:
How do I mine, what do I need, what can I do of what I mined etc...

Factions: more about factions:
How, when, where do I get faction missions...

Cheking trading routes: more about trading
How does it work, how to use trading routes, etc...

Checking systems
.
.
...etc

Maybe not exactly like that, but you get the idea.

It would explain, quickly, the bases at least.

And maybe commentaries, like, when you're wanted for any reason in a particular region of the galaxy, "you're entering this or that controlled area, you're wanted here", or approaching a pirate controlled area...

English is not my native language, I'm trying my best to explain myself.

All of this might sound silly to you as you must have spent hundreds of hours playing the game, but for a new player, it is almost mandatory.
Instead of struggling finding the infos to understand the game here and there, you would learn about the game while playing it. Crazy right... A voice is always more pleasant than just some huge amount of text to read. And with a mutliple choices menu, you could get to the information you need directly. 34th century...

- - - Updated - - -

It is indeed banned, but some rogue AIs escaped. For all we know, they are still out there.

Cheers,

Drew.

Even though, since when laws totally stop something from happening. Especially in a world of this scale.

You're choosing to see only what you want to see again. Half of the first page (including my post) is discussing the personal assistant/tutorial aspect of the OP more than your crazy judging morally critical idea.
