Not another graphical change! (AKA What have you done to my Nebula?)

Always got time for a fellow 350Z driver ;)

yay.. so you one too then...... Sadly for me only for a few months longer. I love the car, its immaculate for its age, never let me down but the wife is pregnant so no point having a 2 seater - esp one without a passenger airbags disable option.... OT i know so will leave it at that... fly.... drive (& code) .... safe CMDR :)

PS mayhap we have flashed each other on the roads around cambridge :)

One way to test it should be to get right in the nebula, if you keep jumping towards it then it should eventually be the biggest thing (one would hope anyways!) This region is the densest nebula-wise so it's going to be the place with the most to balance.

I will go check that out, and fly towards the center of it. :)

I was only visiting Nebulas recently, but took this shot of the Veil West Nebula and shows some banding lines which I thought looked a little weird?

I have a medium spec PC, with a AMD 6770 and the graphics are set to high, which is what the game set them to. I can get Ultra but not in the heat of summer and need desk fan to ensure good air flow...

It's quite possible Barnards loop is the bigger nebula in your location so it's picking that!

I think that could explain the issue I saw with the galaxy map, though I'd suggest some algorithm tuning might be required because as you can see from the screenshots, the horsehead nebula was definitely dominating the view and should have been the one rendered in high-res.

While we talking about nebulae, any chance of an upgrade for Eta Carina? The in game version is a bit generic ;)

It's rather spectacular in real life...

Also the Eta Carinae star, which should be at the centre of the nebula, is in the wrong place (or the nebula is): the star and the nebula are about 1300 Ly apart. And note the different names.

Found this thread from earlier this year. There they claim you can edit a xml-file to get higher resolution nebulae.

Thanks, too bad it works only with one nebula tho, but this shot is exactly what I'm seeing.
Somehow the engine is giving me the low quality asset even tho there's no other nebula near to draw it's attention to.
Same happens with BL, in one system it is seen with the bouns detail, then in the neighboring system it's a lo res smudge. Or even better, it disappears for a couple of systems then reappears again.

It's a real shame that engine follows this obscure logic when drawing nebulae on your screen and a waste of time when you travel to one only to be greeted with a pixelated space puke to your face.

Maybe that could be another paid expansion... The real Milky Way!

The funny thing is, I've read articles on astronomical pictures. In real, they might not be so breathtaking.

FD base its galaxy on popular pictures but if we could really be there, maybe it would be disappointing because it would look nothing as impressive as the "reconstructed pictures" we've been fed for decades.

Here's three screenshots from up very close to the Horsehead Nebula. The galaxy map shot shows my location:

So logged in last night, went straight to galaxy map and to my dismay,

And what is this, maybe I have just missed it, blind or something,

Anybody know what is in the bottom pic? I probably have seen it a hundred times, but guess I never noticed it, maybe the colors are different?

Sorry to NECRO this great post, but i am right now in the Horsehead nebula and i am affected by the same issues had ObsidianAnt:

It's all very well explained in previous posts and i didn't want open another thread for the same unfixed issue....do anybody knows if there is some fix via graphicconfiguration for improve the nebulae details?

Thanks in advance :)

Id also like to know why theres such a difference between what you see in map, and what you see in game. took this a few days ago,
excited to travel to the California nebula.. theres no other nebula around. got there and was disappointed.
in game on left with black hatching artefacts.. in map lovely smoothness on right. ( ive brightened the image slightly )

Is anyone seeing the same thing in map as they do in game?
I had this problem ages back with a visit to the horsehead like the original post.. so months and months ago.. you go to the horse head to look at the horse head.. but its not there in game.

yeah...in the galaxy map i have full detailed nebula, but in game it's the ''soften'' version...galaxy details on ultra on my end.

There are some tweaks you can do in the graphicsconfiguration.xml to get the higher detail ones back and also show more in the background at once. You have to increase the total number of hi-res nebula visible. The default xml config for nebula is set quite low, even on high detail.

I'll post some comparison screenshots later.

I don't know. I've always been thinking that nebulas up close look bad no matter what level of gfx quality I tried. Blurry and somewhat pixelated. This screenshot has been taken almost a year ago:

gemfx is a shader tweaker....i use ReShade and is very good for tweak and increase the gameplay ambience, BUT things as the nebula resolutions doesn't benefit from this....let's try to not mix arguments...this is a serious nebula rendering problem, nothing that a shader enancher can fix....let's stay on topic please.

Regarding that screenshot, well at least it seems that problems are still here and aren't been solved yet.

I tried to tweak the graphicconfiguration.xml file increasing high resolution nebulas up to 3, since the orion nebula is pretty full, but no luck....in game nebulae are always low rez, in the galaxy map them are rendered correctly.
