Patch Notes Update Horizons 2.0 beta change log #6

I tried landing on a moon with a very quick orbit, so I could observe the sunrise.

To my shock it suddenly 'clicked' into daylight, rather than gradually. Is this intended?

It seems that once the star is more than 50% visible behind the planet that is obscuring it, day mode switches on.

This is rather immersion breaking, and I hope it isn't the intended system.

Ok...quickly tested the POI system.

Works pretty great now IMO.

Still don't think it's a good idea that the skimmers becomes active when you approach the POI with your ship though. Far to easy to take them out that way. They should only activate if an SRV comes near and go and hide again if you run back to your ship. Two players playing together can still lure them out with an SRV of course while the other player rains death from above! :D

Skimmers on patrol around installations in another matter. But these appearing from the ground should hide. Being able to target the smaller ones with gimbals isn't helping either.

YOU DIDN'T HEAR US, DIDN'T YOU?

The whole fadeout idea is BAD.
At least, because nobody in their right mind would create a scanner, that forgets things it just saw in such unbelievably ridiculous way.

But I know that "common sense" or "realism" means nothing to you, so just in case you will say that this is "fun gameplay" - NO IT IS NOT.

Driving around in the SRV, glancing at the "wave scanner" while closing to the target - this does feel like fun, yes.
Not being able to do the same in the ship - not fun.
Forcing us to use SRV - not fun.

If you keep things this way, I personally am just going to ignore the whole "planetary USS POI minigame" completely.
Just flying at low altitude above the landscape is more fun to me.

+1

Thanks for nothing FD. You really don´t know how to make a game fun.

POI(USS) that magically appears near you is just ridiculous and they are the same in every planet.

I've not encountered these. Does it only affect certain port types?
It only seems to affect the ports with landing pads. It usually happens after you undock and move away from the port. Doesn't matter if you try to go straight up or move away horizontally.
[Edit for clarity]: The issue is with invisible walls around planetary ports.

just went to a POI and the settlement had skimmers wanted and protecting the data link.

Shot one no problems, the other i shot and got a wanted bounty status for it so still broken.

I don't believe for one second we're saying we don't understand your frustration or sympathise with it. As a fellow AMD user that doesn't have the problem, what change did FD make that has caused this issue 5 months ago? Or was it something that AMD changed in one of their updates?

It's related with AMD drivers above the 15.7.1 and Windows 10. In this scenario, gpu usage in sc is under 10/20 % causing fps to drop below 10.

A lot of user suggested to downgrade to W8, install older drivers (15.6 or 14.12), make dual boot or do workaround like that. You know that this isn't acceptable.

In my case, with a freesync monitor I can't roll back bacause it's not supported by older drivers. Not to mention newer gpus (furys and r9 3xx) aren't supported by older drivers.

So we are stuck in this limbo where is "AMD fault not fdev, wait for a fix". In the meanwhile, as a premium backer, I'm losing the benefits I gained supporting this game back in the day.(test beta, lifetime expansion etc...if the game is unplayabe, there isn't so much to do here for me :( )

Did you wait for the scan to complete on the second skimmer?

Also...criminal status isn't was I was referring too. I talked about finding them while still inside your ship.

Yeah the lighting leaves a lot to be desired for. Honestly I'd rather them delay the patch until January and fix this along with some other issues then push the patch out on Tuesday which seems pretty soon considering the size of the patch.

I think the same needs to be done in space for the signal sources. A find mechanism or scan mechanic would make these far more interesting and logical.

Personally, I want them to retain both PoI's & Signal Sources largely as they are......because not everyone is always doing missions, & I personally like going out to find random things in space. When it comes to salvage missions or any other kind of search-based mission based around a specific person or object, then these need to be spawned as specific objects when you enter the system......as a persistent object.

Yes, that is a given and I've mentioned that in several threads already. This should apply for everything you are suppose to find.

The "missing pilots" just stands out much more since it's a individual person you are suppose to rescue.

Good to know you are on the case Tinman. I don't get the chance to check the forums as much as I would like these days.

Hopefully there is strong community support for improved find mechanics both in space and on land. You're quite right, the problem is compounded when pure chance is the only means of completing a "find this specific thing" mission.

Good idea but would only work for folks with friends and penalise folks that play solo forcing them to use srv pea shooters

Well you can stick that suggestion in your pipe & smoke it. Personally these "issues" sound extremely minor, & easily fixable between now & early in the New Year-certainly not bad enough to justify pushing back the release by an entire Month. Still, I guess it's easy for you to suggest it, as you're already playing the Beta. Those who weren't able to get Beta access might have a different point of view.

I'm playing mostly by myself and only wing up on occasions. I still feel "penalized" right now since this current approach is way to easy. Actually...using the SRV to take them out is usually to easy in itself. The ships guns are basically cheat mode. ;)

Another thing is can we please, please, please have ambient light settings in the options? Because for some it is complete and utter unabridged and convicted destructus exterminatus totalus to any sense of atmosphere, especially now that planets are available.
It seems once we leave the arbitrary range of the main star's light, an ambient model kicks in which essentially seems to add in an extremely bright white light.

Can't we have settings for this? As I can understand that maybe some want some compensation out there in the dark reaches of a system, so they can actually see planets. I'd just love to see maybe a low/medium/high configuration for background light.

Thanks for beta 6!

New menu screen is beauuuutiful! :)

- Load shaders earlier again on AMD to reduce stalls on loading sequence

So it's not the drivers anymore? It's the engine not playing well with the cards?
Well then I'm just glad you guys FINALLY sorted it out :D
