- Ensure that the correct mountain material are being used on high metal worlds where the geology is borderline for metal content
Is this image showing the expected change from Beta 5 to Beta 6? The orange color disappeared from this planet...

For those of us that have spent a lot of time configuring our driving controls in the beta, will those be overwritten by the live release tomorrow? What is the best way to preserve them?

I imagine that you can find you control bindings in you appdata/local/Frontier Development/Options/Bindings and copy them over. It appears that the release game is Custom.0.8.binds and the Horizons Beta is Custom.1.8.binds. If it doesn't do it automatically I reckon you can just rename the 1.8 to 0.8

*Disclaimer* I don't know if this will work, please back up all you controls safely and don't blame me if it goes wrong :D

the 0.8 is a bug, live has a rebind bug making it not possible to rebind new keys they are forgotten, this is fixed in horizon, so 'custom.binds' is the correct file to copy stuff into, though that said it should just load them from those settings.

do not be angry

I have no problem. FD must have it, since they are not capable to make a game with fun and depth concepts, and insist an do things in a shallow way. And forcing the use of SRV with the gameplay

I'm just putting my understanding of how this decision is amateur in the game, and reinforcing how much it should be reviewed.

From only a gameplay point of view(as sugestion), this is a bad decision as others posts indicate.
Well fortunately for most of us, FD has no problem; they are making the game most of us want to play, but thank you for informing us of some other folks thoughts.

So if I have to figure out my driving controls all over again, blame Ozric. Got it. :)

It'll be simple enough to back them up tonight. If there's any confusion about which file it is we can always change a setting in beta and verify which file got updated.

I was just thinking this is a pretty big change to the controls, so maybe FD had some advice on what is going to happen tomorrow. It might head off a few dozen rage posts if we had some instructions. ;)

You may be able to copy files from horizons beta to speed up download time when its out
...i download wings 1.5 64bit ...at the very start by accident thinking it was horizons it took me the whole day.. ..so what i did was copy it all over to the new install elite 64 then when i started up horizons i only had to down load 15mb ...and i was playing horizons up till now fine ....

NOTE i do NOT recommend doing so and if patch fails or crashes your machine or game for some reason i am unaware of later down the line could cause issues and you do not know why

Just been playing this afternoon and encountered "the wall". I took off after a base mission and took the following photo. I then boosted away once back in the cockpit but promptly hit the wall and exploded!!

Have FD acknowledged this bug? Crumbs I'm not taking my Clipper anywhere near the surface until this is sorted.

Wait, this wasn't my imagination? Twice I was taking off more or less vertically only to crash into something and take massive hull damage. I thought it was a ship and I was blind but nothing showed on radar and I received no fine for speeding.

Is this up as a report yet? It happened to me in Beta 5 but haven't tried Beta 6 yet

You are welcome. By the way, one guy made a good compilation...

Ozric, I think you have completely misunderstood the situation. There are several reasons why people are upset, and the first reason is as follows:

That's not all; here is the second reason:

Really? Rescue choppers just land in random areas, and then call in the ambulance to see if anyone in the vicinity is hoping for a rescue?
Please, tell me in real life when a rescue helicopter can't hover OVER A CRASH SITE and see PEOPLE STANDING THERE seeking assistance?

A third reason relates to the fact that the 'disappearing blue circle' is a huge missed opportunity...

Similar with cryopods - visible wreck may have none, cryopod will be somewhere around (ejected before the crash). I believe FD designers may find more and better solution for it and not just ship wrecks, instead of placing "invisible walls" to the game. :)

And as for your suggestion that people just want their ship's scanner to guide them in to the exact location of the POI, well...

Does the SRV stop scanning when you get within a close distance to the object and make you look for it visually from miles away? No it walks you right to it like it's holding your hand. You couldn't have it any easier then that! Nobody wants easy mode. In fact make it MUCH harder. Actually make using the scanner require some skill. How about making it more like a flight sim where you have to narrow and move your field of scan?

All of these quotes are from this thread, and there are plenty of others like them. I think they raise some valid points, and I wish Frontier would listen to them, even though we are now at the eleventh hour. Anyway, Starlanced says it better than most:

Might as well limit it to only vertical thrust under 2km, since we'll all be space elevators.

Nooooo......up until this release I was playing Horizons with no problems and although my spec was just on the minimum recommended for gfx card I was able to play at ULTRA settings and still get 25-30 fps on planet surface and flying at low altitude (admittedly with some texture pop in but I could live with that!) and now after BETA 6.....even on LOW setting I am down to 7fps on planet surfaces and even out in space am only getting 30 - 40.........what has happened!!? Treid restarting PC and game three times but no change..........:-(
