General / Off-Topic The next best thing.... for my computers video card.

So about a year ago, my wife said I could buy a new computer for Christmas/birthday. I followed sales and followed other stuff about computers and came up with buying this:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/product...ies/5330773/model/5360080/document/c03668430/

It's a good computer, and I got it for about $800 CAD(because I live in canada). I like the 8gb ram, and 8 core CPU, but it coming to a point when I need to upgrade the video card.

It's a Radeon HD 7570, with a HP only video and lacks driver updates. So what would be a good upgrade under $200 CAD(because I live in Canada and the change rate for US is not that good right now) ?

(oh I should note that my card as 4gb of ram.)

There is a chart which you can consult. I can't see you card on there, but I may be missing it. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html

Essentially, for the most modern demands you would be looking at the top three groups. From the R9 Fury Upwards.

I will say I have little experience with AMD personally and none with Canadian pricing or availability. But this may give you a start and hopefully others can be more specific.

Thanks for replying. Right now $200 cad is about $140 us. I would round that to 150...

Not to start a AMD vs GeForce debate. But I don't really know the difference and don't know what makes them different... or better.

The main difference between them is fanboys. Both make good products that get the job done. :)

No idea about pricing in Canada though sorry.

Principally, they apply to the different systems. Yours is AMD so it needs AMD, other, mine for example, is Intel, use GeForce.

I suggest you look at the chart and check prices in your area.

The purpose of the chart is to create a sort of hierarchy of cards, the higher, the more powerful the card. Frankly, for Elite, for example, you could probably get good results with any in the top 6 levels. Mine a GTX 760 is in the 7th for example. I get excellent results. The down side is, of course, I am running out of things to blame for my lousy game play. :)

My I suggest you forget about comparing your area with the US? It's not only pointless it's also playing someone else's game. There may well be some products available there and not where you are, (though I doubt it) but seriously, where would you prefer to live?

You have what you have. Your PC is a nice piece of kit whcih does a decent job. If you can't afford a good card right now, save up. Stop using alcohol and tabacco, put the cash aside and soon you will have the card of your dreams
