Now the $64000 question will it be enough to run the DK2 with my GFX card at the min 75fps?

I've got a new machine build coming up soon too, but will probably go the Intel i5 route I think - just wanting to see these new ones coming out shortly.

If you're going AMD, that previous mobo only looks to take 1600DDR3 RAM.

THIS ONE (£52.38) takes much faster 2133DDR3.

If you're building a budget system, 1600 RAM should be fine. I'll be using 1333 RAM ('til I can afford some 1600).

Would still get the faster RAM though, there's no real difference in the price, and the faster stuff will run slower if you want.

Make absolutely certain that your RAM is certified to run on your board though at that speed and module count though.

There's some modules that won't work with some boards and cpu's.

AMD Compat M/Board and CPU's are cheaper, but are you losing much in the way of speed etc Vs Intel?.

So, to get the magical 75fps for the Rift DK2 with my GFX card I'm probably looking at AMD as money is tight etc... (Kids upgraded Piggy banks to titanium versions.)

Any suggestions would be unashamedly grovelled over.

In my experience the quality of Intel CPUs and chipsets is better (I build PCs for a living). Generally you will get more bang for you buck with AMD, however.

I suggest selling the kids to experimental research. You'll get all the cash you need for an insanely great system and not have to worry about the kids anymore.

I don't have figures to hand at the moment, but as a very rough guide, top flight AMD gives you about 75% of the bang of higher-mid range Intel for about 60% of the price.

Higher i5 and i7's leave everything AMD in the dust, but cost more, just depends how much that bang is worth to you.

I'll fish out some benchmarks when I get home, but I sold my 8 core AMD as it simply wasn't competitive with even an old i5 3570k

As much as I'd love to sell the kids (Just joking if you 2 read this. ) I won't get much for them. best offer so far is a Curly Wurly, 20p and a slap around the head with a Haddock.

And to be honest I'd be lost without them, no Ironing & washing of school uniforms, Packed lunches, trying to get them to make there beds, brush teeth.etc.etc.etc.etc. No wonder I'm always knackered.
