The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Yes: EB,P together with .,.. ......,. ... = 1,26,13 = A,Z,13 = ROT13 yielded RO,C which was an abbreviation for Right on, Commanders, followed by 1.3 (wait for the next release). Drew said that was it, it was a test of our problem solving skills so we were prepared for what was still to come.

I just meant the P part, like a lost corner background puzzle piece found down the back of the couch.

Hey, Rifters! So, it looks like Salome' is in the news, pretty much the same that we heard from Drew's tweet but this time it's "official" - https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/56fa66249657ba731e38b2c6

Also while I have this going there is an article about former President Halsey which appears on the GalNet site but not the GalNet feed in stations. Could be a bug, or it could be something important (although I doubt it's related to our search unless the "serious " we're looking for is responsible for killing her ship. BOLO for an assassination attempt either way.) - https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/56fa4c629657ba8a5338b2c8

Other than that, there's a piece about Dr Arcanonn and the meta-alloy drive, which is unsettling as well, but seems to be unrelated. Although it would be cool to be able to bring a UA out to the Rift just in case.

See you out in the Black, Commanders.

PS: I just read the Halsey article in full, seems she's been going on about "something about stars and...creation, I think" according to her sister... So if it IS related, then that might be a rather strong clue.

Also Salomè is supposedly going to be in the live stream from Beagle Point on April 7th unconfirmed, but a teaser worth paying attention too.

Formidine Rift and "Fleetcomm"

Just a little Announcement :)

Erimus has been communicating with the folks over at DW Discord and they have been working on a Formidine Rift Communication Hub for all of us Rifters to use. This will make it easier for us to discuss and co-ordinate a large scale search :D

Possibly could be up and going by the end of the week, Erimus will provide a link once he has the greenlight and everything is good to go.

How will it help? Well, I'll let Erimus tell ya :p

Members will be able to chat with each other over Discord (mainly text chat) but voice channels are there too for those that prefer that method of communication.

"Rifters" will have access to emergency channels, like the Fuel Rats, and also WaspRado (the Distant Worlds Radio Station), there will also be a "Lets-Wing-Up" channel there for players to pop in and see whose available for an excursion out to the Rift.

Effectively they can use these channels (and more to come after Distant Worlds ends) to begin preparations for a large scale expedition to the Formidine Rift. I'm sure a lot of the Distant Worlds fleet would love to take part too once they get back from the far side.

Thanks, Erimus and the DW Discord admins! I think it will prove to be an invaluable asset to have.

Edit: Extra tinfoil supplement: It is odd though that the brief mention of the Rift in Lave Revolution (nice catch, whoever found that one) implies it is between Reorte and Riedquat.

I have to say I view that as a mistake by a 3rd party author. If something has not come from Drew himself or FDEV via the in game news, I discount it. They are the only two sources I would work from.

As an aside was the EB, P thing ever fully resolved? When some one suggested Eclipsing Binary Pulsar" and Drew responded the "P" does not stand for pulsar. Looking through star type notes I see its a common notation with Eclipsing Binaries EB, P, where P is the period of the pair. I know it's old I just don't recall seeing this being mentioned. Was it?

EB,P is long dead, may it RIP. Please can we leave it that way? The puzzle was unrelated to the Rift. It was me that suggested Eclipsing Binary Pulsars, many many moons ago. Brings back horrible flashbacks of madly running around the galaxy even now.

This is great news, communicating and coordination will be key in solving this mystery I think. I have a lowly 10 man Teamspeak server we can use as well if needed, would just need to set up the channels etc..

Dead, dead, dead, thank you.

If we are looking for RO, C clues that has to do with stellar object types, I find it far more interesting that Simbad lists just one star with the sectral type 'R0 C'.

Lave Revolution is official canon recognized by Frontier. It holds just as much weight as Drew Wagar's Reclamation. Several Elite Dangerous novels were penned prior to the release of the game. I think that there is a good chance that hints about the Rift or other non-rift related easter eggs are likely scattered throughout all of the books.

Perhaps this implies some sort of temporal or other phenomenon which can change location, and appear/disappear anywhere along the entire extended R-R line?

I haven't read the book, but it could be a mistake from the author. I have to say it's been on my mind as well, though. What if we should be looking for a different kind of 'rift'? Like a jumpgate/wormhole of sorts in a location closer to home, leading to somewhere faraway. I'm not playing for a while, so I cannot check out anything myself...

More Galaxy Maps

In addition to Erimus's maps, I'd like to add this link to Galaxymap.org.

It has stunning images and tons of scientific information on our galaxy.
Basic map

Mapping Hydrogen - maybe worth looking into various spectral views - maybe something is hidden in there?

And written by the author who created some of the in-house canon guidebooks that all the other authors used, and who reviewed texts for continuity...

Has anyone checked local Galnet at Lave, Reorte or Riedquat lately to see if there is any mention of the Rift similar to what is in Lave Revolution?

I agree, it's a good source. My only question is; Could his phrasing or understanding of where the Rift is located be off? I haven't read it, but from the quote it does seem that he hints at it being between Reorte and Riedquat. But, he doesn't say so specifically. Not to mention, it kind of contradicts every clue we have except for the "core" of the problem.

Then that also leads one to wonder if the old lady is a complete lunatic and just sent Salome on some wild goose chase. There is always that, I suppose.

So quest for Hassan's world report part 1: Almagest is a single Class G (white-yellow) star, so that seems to rule it out (two nice WWs and some terraform candidates though, all boringly named - Almagest 1, Almagest 2, etc.).

I'll check Sothis too, and the other Sirius colony worlds in Wredguia, but we should keep in mind that Sirius started colonizing them long after the first appearance of Elite Reclamation. I suppose it is possible there would have been colonists on them prior to the interest from Sirius, but I suspect Hassan's world is going to be either a proper named system elsewhere that no one has stumbled across or noted the significance of, or possibly a HD, HIP or other non-proc-gen star catalog designation system. Lots of HIPs in Wredguia to check out...

Heh heh, I just clued in to what Drew's other Sector note might refer to - I wonder if it is in game as well?

Edit: Hassan's world quest Part 2:

Sothis is a quadrenary system, Class F, two Class M, and a Class T dwarf, so that seems to rule it out. Two ELWs and lots of high metal worlds. Planets with standard naming, Sothis A1, A2, etc.

Hassan's world quest Part 3:

Ceos, not a Sirius colony world but neighbour to Sothis and 486LY from Sol, so a possibility, but again a single Class F so that rules it out. Nice independent Communist world though. Opened the system map after checking distance to Sol, and got the Sol system map. Nice to see that bug is still floating around.

Also checked so far (none of these fit the required parameters based on the book):
HIP 55676, HIP 11156, HIP 12355, HIP 11879, Segin (aka Epsilon Cassiopeiae), 32 Cassiopeiae (nice system with BH to check out if you are in the area), HR 342.

That's it for tonight, will get back to this later this week.
