LIVESTREAM - On the Horizon – Countdown to The Engineers Beta Livestream: Part 2 today at 7PM BST

I have to admit to being a bit underwhelmed by the stream. Wasn't it the second time that a demo build failed to make an appearance?

It can only "fail to make an appearance" if said appearance was said to happen in the first place. ;)

Next week on the other hand...might be playing it myself instead of watching a stream though! :D

It is going to be better.

I am just a big cry baby and wanted interesting chained missions where you find an occupied escape pod, turn it into the occupants home system after reading the logs, get sent to get revenge on the pirate lord that destroyed their ship, and retrieve the data on the location of (insert "loot" for engineers here) from the pirates black box.

There's a lot of other improvements which will be great, just dissapointed the missions aren't really changing as much as I was hoping for.

Yes this is want I want too. Even for the search and rescue missions on planets, rather than relying on a random spawn, it would be great if it said something like, "the last we heard from them was that they were exploring the giant crater on moon X". You would then go to moon X, and check out the biggest craters until you found them etc.

It will definitely be the cherry on the cake. Will come in due time i think.

Hi Edgar,

I have had a look at the templates this morning and from what I'm looking at this shouldn't occur in 2.1. However, I haven't got the time to look at this directly. Perhaps you can keep an eye out and let me know if you see it in the beta.

Thanks,
Adam

I confess that, for the first time since I bought the game, I am sorely tempted to buy into Beta ;-).

LEP owner here. Beta is nice to have but Post-release betas are always over very quickly. I probably wouldn't bother buying stand alone beta access now, unless it was less than a tenner. Wait for the LEP to return.

Thank you sir! That's good to hear, and yes I shall keep an eye out once the update drops. Very excited for 2.1! :D

Adam, NO, stop with the Sandro-style "I don't want to hit Reply With Quote" replies! Not doing that means someone new to the thread (perhaps having come here via a dev tracker...) will have to manually search back in the thread for the post you're replying to. By all means edit down what you're replying to after hitting 'Reply With Quote', but please use it so we have the ">>" icon/link to click to find the post you're replying to!

And whilst you're at it, get Sandro to change his ways too, eh ?

Yours "Having to go back page by page ctrl-f'ing for the mentioned name yet again"-y.

Enjoy your trips in and out of stations as you face barrages from Cutters fitted with half a dozen or so missile launchers! :O

Hi Adam,

as you are here, do you want to go a little bit into details regarding mission branches? What you said in the live-stream (the possibility of your mission being blown and some thugs are comming after you) hyped me quite a bit. The questions are:
1) How likely are those branches? Currently - at least in my perception - a branching offer is almost certain and seems to be a mandatory part of the mission. Some more unpredictability would be great.
2) Are there multiple possible branches? (Let's say 5% for being blown, 10% for a "better offer" and 8% for "your target is actually a saint and you are a scumbag for wanting him dead!")
3) Will the new (credit related) branching offers be more tempting in 2.1? Currently, the counter-offer is insignificant - especially, as the player is usually mainly interested in the the reputation gain and the reputation will in fact take a hit, if accepting the counter offer -> even more credits would be necessary to make the offer worthwhile and tempting!

Thank you for taking your time and the interesting stream, by the way! :)

Hi Adam. Whilst you're around, can I ask if you guys were able to fix the problems with the Hostage Rescue, Meet with Contact and Pilot Rescue missions?

I think it'd be cool if, for example, you're sent on a salvage mission, only to be told that somebody beat you to it......so now you have to chase them down & retrieve the goods (probably using a hatch-breaker or just targeting their cargo hold) ;).

Another cool branch might be if you get scanned during a smuggling mission, & so get a counter-offer from the authorities to do a mission against your former employers, or else face a massive bounty ;).

It would also be great if, more often, attempts to salvage were interrupted by opportunistic NPC pilots tasked with thwarting your mission!

Hi!

1) This is something we are still tweaking and will be tweaking through beta, the higher rank the more likely branches are though. Some of the branches are optional, so the contact may ask you to do it, if you do great, if not...ok. Some are not.
2) Yes, each mission has a few, though some of them are similar from mission to mission
3) That is the plan, but again that is something we are consistently looking at. Give us time in beta to get it right.

Hi Adam,

thanks a lot for the informative stream and for answering a few more questions in this thread! Much appreciated!

When you said that branches and alternative missions would be optional for players, you used the examples of the target sending killers after you to stop you. But wouldn't dealing with those thugs exactly be a prime example for a branch that should be mandatory? Wouldn't it be strange if the player could dispose of those guys by simple choosing the option not to engage in this branch or optional mission, so to say?

And another one, if you have time: earlier in the thread I asked if every NPC got multiple mug shot/portraits, to convey various kinds of feeling and reaction towards the player, like the two different pictures we got of Mel Franco in newsletter #121. Can you say anything about this?

Hey Adam Waite! Thanks you for livestream and your attentions to our questions.
I am really happy to hear about the division between the factions to legal and illegal types of missions. But currently there is huge gap in profit between legal and illegal type of assassination missions for example.

If you finish legal mission eliminating the Pirate Lord you will get 300K cr and 200K cr of bounties, but killing the citizens you will get 300K cr with finishing mission and lots troubles with law..... Illegal way is dangerous, but it should be profitable!
Have you any implements to fix this?
