Community Event / Creation Buckyball Racing Club presents: The Bucky Files:- The Case of the Missing Comet (23-25 May)

We'll for my entry, I flew between Crown and Garden in normal space.
Trip was about 6:30 @ between 430-464m/s

If Engineers can double my speed, a race between the 2 would in theory take 3:15

At 6:30, it would be a bit boring (but maybe not if it was a group race?)

Also, I made this map for my video, maybe of interest here,

I was thinking you would use SC. Would be a bit dependent on the transition times but would be good fun anyway. Always looks cool with lots of ship close together in SC.

Just sending my entry in now.

I did shoot past you at one point and thought, that can't be right and then I noticed you were in a sidewinder :)

Sidewinders can be fast. With enhanced thrusters on Thursday they will be properly speedy. Stock, not so much.

Repped. I was thinking of trying this too but you beat me to it!

Normal flight in Pareco was one of my very first videos. Nostalgia drive charging!

The course turned out to be easier to run than I remembered it. Last time I was at Pareco I was doing the normal flight thing and when the race was announced I was picturing lots of overshooting and/or faffing around trying to deselect targets if visiting all the systems. As it happens you can cruise between them pretty easily.

Well that was a flurry of late night/morning activity :) lots of new entries that I will check on my tea break and I'll post an updated table at lunch time.

Every time I think I'm getting better at docking I then see one of Furrycat's videos, that was a very very nice docking.

I had actually forgotten how slow the stock Sidewinder is. As it's only a MWM it's probably not worth changing it, but we could possibly swap the Sideys for an Eagle if there's enough demand.

That's a sign, I'm calling it a night.

You certainly had an interesting day that's for sure. Well done for sticking it out.

interesting time at Crown Orbital.

just purchased a Hauler to go and get something. popped into Outfitting, all good. went to check 'Stored Ship Locations' - no shipyard! i kid ye not. as i sat there in my newly purchased Hauler there was no shipyard.

weird place, but fun!

Were you actually at Crown? Teleporting to a different station after buying a ship and the station services UI showing the wrong station name are two bugs I have seen more than once.

Uh huh ... well if your time is under 15mins I'm going to want to see screenshots showing the chassis number of the ship you started in and the ship you finished in. That's all I'm saying.

In other news, I think I've discovered what all the stations are orbiting ..

You might need to zoom in a fair way to make out the details.

It's cookiehole's trophy pile!

more space oddity

Docked and logged off at Garden Ring - an outpost. Logged back in and started next run.

This was the view!

All the words say Garden Ring, the Nav panel says Garden ring is an outpost. the view definitely isn't an outpost!

Hope this is within the rules as it's my best run!

I assumed as was still at Crown. could have been a bug. i've never seen that one before

Well here the lunchtime update from the bar at Garden Ring. It was a frenzied late night/early morning of racing and the one thing we can say for sure it that there is certainly some strange things going on in this system. We've had everything from Alec only seeing 5 stations the day before race (though fortunately the sixth reappeared in time for his run(s). Drakhyr having stations disappear on him, even though he could see other Cmdrs leaving the station in question. Terrorsidic deciding he was going to do things the old fashioned way and fly in normal space between 2 of the stations. Superflyguy getting teleported to another system. All the way through to Rankaze... well the problems are too numerous to go over again ;)

So the new and revised leaderboard looks like this:

Cmdr Kliggish jumps straight into the top spot, closely followed by Alec with racer1 in third place. We've also had an entry for the SSS and Cmdr Furrycat tops the table on this one, awaiting (or possibly not) some challengers.

Actually the top of the target holo says Neville Ring. We can probably overwhelm the support team with all of the strange things we've found in this system in the last 2 days, we certainly have enough evidence of it all!

I just want to observe that you have somehow managed to con the lot of us into willfully entering the Bermuda Triangle of space. That's quite an accomplishment.

What's a bucky ball?

Hmmm, where to start?

Well, the beginning's always a good place ..

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=33756&page=6&p=655452&viewfull=1#post655452

Nope? How about an interview with Bucky himself ..

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=135535

Did that make things any clearer? Probably not.

You could take the refresher course ..

Oh dear, this isn't helping at all is it. Errr, we have a website ..

Buckyball: n. 1). Pretty much the most fun thing in Elite: Dangerous. 2). The cause of nearly all my insurance claims. 3). The galaxy-leading cause of anxiety attacks among station traffic controllers.

Muhahaha

What's a bucky ball?

Come and try a race with us, you know you want to :D This one is a fairly easy one (as long as the system plays ball that is) and it will prepare you for the upcoming main Buckyball Run X

As the others have said this is by far the most fun thing about this game and the contents of the race threads are just amazing. It is also responsible for all but 2 of my insurance claims. We're a nice bunch of guys and girls who put as few constraints onto our racers as possible, so you can at a time that suits you. Although the descriptions from the guys are good ones they did miss out what an actual bucky-ball is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckminsterfullerene
