FDL- Buff needed.

FDL is fine as it is. You should have to sacrifice some of your combat potential (read: HRPs) in order to do PvE content. Either that, or have another ship to go collect materials and things with, keep your FDL at the engineer's base.

Those of you who go on about it being a fighter are missing the actual point. We want to continue using it as a fighter and nothing more, however, we also want to take advantage of the new mechanics brought to us by 1.6/2.1, IE: The Engineers. To do this, without fitting out an AspE to do the work instead as some people may not be able to afford that, the FDL cannot be taken in a combat fit to an Engineer outpost if you don't live within close vicinity to one without sacrificing the combat efficiency of the ship for more QOL features.

Now, sacrificing some of the combat potential to partake in PvE is perfectly acceptable. However, the problem comes back into play when you want to finish your combat fit by putting it back together with fully modified Engineer parts. Say, if you live in Eravate, you can't get the ship out to the closest engineer (in Wyrm) and back to Eravate again with the purely combat fit because you lack the fuel scoop and the jump range to make it there on a single 8T tank of gas.

It's more of a "Hey guys, we've got a logistics issue with this ship here because you handicapped it via fuel storage" than it is a "Hey, this ship doesn't do enough things for me, please buff." I can't take the ship and jump it hundreds of light years around the bubble and expect to be able to modify all of the parts that can be modified because in it's fighting configuration I can't take it more than 4-6 jumps outside of it's home system.

A bigger fuel tank would actually pretty much solve the issue, especially considering what was mentioned before, where smaller ships somehow have larger factory tanks. I mean, logically speaking, the bigger the engine/vehicle the more fuel it's going to consume so, to be competitive in any given market you'd need it to have the same basic range and abilities as other vehicles of its type. We've got jump range down, now we need to work on that endurance to match it with other ships. (16 tons would be more than enough, hell, I'd settle for a boost up to 12)

This.
Boohoo, a dedicated combat ship can only do combat. Whatever shall we do?! The universe is coming to an end!

Quality posting right here mate. Good job. You get a cookie. Call me back when your balls have dropped.

If you are not doing full on combat RES/CZ's, you can get a Fuel Scoop, and some cargo space in an FdL easily. Just leave off one HRP for a Cargo Rack. It certainly won't cripple the combat capabilities against the run of the mill opponents you find while toodling around the Galaxy, and you can swap the HRP back in when you are delving into combat. A class 2A Fuel Scoop does an admirable job keeping mine topped off. I find that using the Cargo Scoop to get the floating materials pretty easy in the FdL so I don;t see a Collector Limpet as required.

Sometimes one has to accept that QoL is not the only matter at hand. When you just succumb to inconvenience you often just cheat yourself out of an adventure.

Or I cheat myself out of the very limited amount of time I have to play by spending it scooping across the known bubble. Though that's an argument for another thread. I agree with the initial part of your post though, with the only caveat being that what if the intended FDL is for pvp? Which requires a much more specific fit than pve activity. I have a pve Python sitting in the bay next to the FDL, afterall. :p

Sigh... it's not that combat ships only can do combat that is the problem.
It's the fackt that FD choose to make non combat activities necessary to upgrade your combat ship.
No comodities for crafting! No problems!
Yea scooping will be a pain, but indeed.... it's a combat ship so I'll deal with that.
Now the ships I love that don't have room for cargo without severly hindering it's functionality need a cargo hold to get them upgraded.

Try and read before you comment.
We don't want to haul cargo, FD forced it on us.
Again, if FD kicks commodities out of the crafting system, all would be well with the void, no buffs for no one required.

That's how I have handled the situation. Combat fit FdL, and a Python mission runner but, when I need to get to the Engineer, I can see swapping a HRP for a Cargo Rack as a simple fix. I have a 2A Fuel Scoop fitted at all times. I scoop what I can, with heat build up, at each star as a I go, and I don;t feel unduly burdened by that. Everyone sees things differently, I get that but, that is where my point of view originates. If I can find a way to get my business done without calling for buffs, I'm going to do that every time.

Would the proposed changes make my life easier? Sure but, I can run missions with one less HRP when my goals call for it. I can adapt my outlook way easier than I can get FD to change something that entirely makes sense. Let's ask FD for storage before we go calling for ships to change.

P.S. One less HRP and a Cargo Rack is not going to turn the FdL into a sitting duck, even for the better AI. It may be our stubbornness that is creating this issue. PvP may be another thing but, therein lies the adventure.

I keeps a fuel scoop on my FDL too, and it does just fine in combat for me. The FDL isn't a hull tanker, you can't fit enough HRP's on It to be practical. It relies on its powerful shields. You start taking a lot of hull damage in your FDL, it's time to go anyways. Unless your running Bi-weave shields, it takes a long time for your shields to regen.

The one thing I am angered about in 2.1 is that, for fear of the now gone Bi-Weaves being regarded as C or D class shields, I replaced my Bi-Weaves with an A rated generator. That one change has made more difference in my income BH'ing, than the new AI did. (Sorry for the Off Topic gripe.)

P.S. I just read that Bi-Weaves are back! I love 2.1 again!

I agree with OP. I really wish it had even just one more class 1 or even if they upsized the existing fuel space to a 16. It's the only ship you have to leave the RES to refuel before you run out of ammo if you decide to jump 10ly or more.

Then set the imperial clipper to medium size so it can land on outposts. I am getting so angry seeing pythons being better in combat, having the same cargo size as my clipper but can still land on outposts.

Why fly a FDL if there are other ships more suitable for the More multi role load out you wish to have

Or do you have to have the collector limpets, the FDL is already a manoeuvrable ship for scooping

You are only 1 short, indeed, but that is an opportunity cost of the ship you choose to fly.

I stubbornly stick with the Sidewinder and know that one extra class 1 does make a world of difference but also accept that there are limitations based on the ship you choose to fly and cannot have it all

There are plenty of limitations to the FDL, this one is excessive and unnecessary, just like it's excessive for the DBX which can't even effectively fill it's role as an Exploration ship being exactly 1 slot short of full functionality in that field.

Seriously, it would hurt absolutely nothing to give both of these ships 1 extra class 1 slot. It would instead make the DBX a functional ship for once in it's history and the FDL would finally be useful for pirating and scavenging, neither of which conflicts with the roles of any other ship in it's class. Everyone remains in their cute little niches and the game goes on just as neat and tidy as it ever did, only players now have a little bit more variety.

This is more about the fact that it can not reach where the combat takes place.

That's going to be a non-issue as ship transport has been confirmed as coming, though. I agree that it's a bit of a pain to move around, but it's not all that bad imo.

The tiny fuel tank has always confused me somewhat. I've always backed the idea that it should have a bigger tank by default, seems odd that a ship aimed at wealthy business folks using it as their pleasure yacht or a well-off bounty hunter would have such a small capacity for carrying fuel.

Also likewise. I'll even give you a 'Well Done' sticker with a grinning dinosaur on it, if you'd like.

You realize that changing the internals changes the combat capabilities of the ship right??????????

So what OP is asking for is for the FDL to be made into a python? Why not just get a python if the FDL is not to your taste?

I will sign off on the FDL buff requested if my Python can obtain pre eng maneuverability buff to 5/10

The low internals are fine for fighters, it's there counter balance against there combat pro's.
All good before 2.1, but now with all the materials and commodities it's problematic.

I never had a cargo hold for any of my fighters and that wasn't a problem, but I can't receive commodities from a mission without it.

agreed.

either a small utility for cargo,

or 16t fuel tank.

Because that goes against the advertisement of ED. Pave your own way through the Galaxy. To bad you can only use certain ships to do that.

Alright then, I also want the FDL to be the best exploration ship in the game. Hell, why not just make every single ship in the game have identical stats? Why bother with specialised ships?

hmmm... Can no one use a cargo scoop anymore?
You don't need to rely on a Limpet controller and limpets.

Also, the materials make different sounds as you approach them.

I was on the cusp of purchasing an FDL. Flew to a station that had it with a 15% discount and prepared to buy it. The station I was at also had a python for only 5m more; a ship I completely forgot about.

I spent 2 hours looking up comparisons.

In the end, I purchased the Python. I immediately upgraded its cargo capacity to 160T and had more internals than the Asp Explorer I was previously using; which I had fitted to 104T while sacrificing shields (moved to C3). My jump range took quite a hit, but with a 5B FSD I'm close to the minimum of my Asp. (17ly vs 19ly)

Compared to the FDL (and even the Asp), it's a bit of a boat. Slower, less turning speed.. Kinda sucks; but I need to get A thrusters before I fully judge it (stuck at D). Has much less utility slots, but good god I would have HATED the FDL if I got it because of the atrocious amount of internals and pathetic jump range.

Kill speed of 3 large vs 1 huge is probably the same, except maybe if it's a powered up beam laser. Still, the Python is a pretty worthy successor to the Asp Explorer, and I'm happy I went with it instead. Couple that with the Engineers upgrades and it's going to match the FDL's agility.

Even though I don't own it, I do agree, the FDL needs a buff to its internals (and again, all ships need a docking computer integrated). I cannot imagine using it now that I've experienced the Python.
