UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 6 - The Canonn

Still thinking that the barnacle C logo is Barnard's loop viewed from the opposite side than inhabited space.
This was my thinking before I took an extended break from the game. I'll be heading back out there this weekend to see if there's anything interesting about, although it's a huge area to scour.

My brain just fell out. You have a habit of doing that to me! :D

Don't worry, It's doing fine.

so does nobody have anything to say about the unknown fragment left behind from an exploding unknown artifact?

Quiet Suns, this isn't an instant messaging site (although it might as well be with the amount of threads we have) please be patient while waiting for somebody to answer your question. There are many helpful people on this thread and I am sure they are more than willing to help you.

Thanks,

Omate.

The 1st California Barnacle was destroyed when 1st discovered (AFAIK). So unless there was a massive coincidence that someone else found it recently but kept it quiet, I dont think its entirely our fault.

I am highly doubtful that the California discovery has caused the state changes. What DID happen when California was discovered was a WEEKEND change of Permit Locks. Weekend suggests it was automatic, and something must have triggered it, so it is possible that discovery in other Nebula could lead to other Permit Changes until we actually get to discover something.
IMHO The Barnacle's status will continue to change every Thursday

Domm: When I got to the 1st discovered California barnacle on my way through to soul nebula, it was intact. I did destroy it though.

Also, wait, wth? What permit locks changed?

Thank you. That is useful, but I did know that -- it does not answer my question about why there are two versions of that letter, for instance. Is there an explanation for this?

Cheers, CMDR Heisenberg6626
Ultimately, no. Subjective opinion: Just stylisation of the signal. There is nothing to indicate when or why the second variant plays other than random chance. I think it's a dead end.

Col 69 (near Horse Head) became unlocked. Col 70 remained.

Damn, really? I'm heading back from Soul Sector now... (also my systems are very flaky, stupid blinky, why did you melt the cargohatch before I could dump you out and see what you did)

Also, there was a post about "Powerplay updating, and something else updating",,, can't remember who said that, but obv that's to do with this right? Any source on where that info came from?

Do we even know this? As far as i am aware the "transmissions" from the UA are not going though our comms but from the same thing that allows us to hear other ships in space, i.e. a simulation by the on-board computer. so are they transmitting at all? or is it just sounds they make? and if it is a simulation how does the computer know it sounds like that?

Also if it is a transmission do we know it's not just transmitting to the nearest thing a ship, we have no way of knowing if its going anywhere else at all.

Im beginning to think this game should be called Elite Ambiguous.

I believe that they 'broadcast navigation data over large distances' came from Galnet, I know i've seen it written somewhere. If it is broadcasting navigation data then it could be aimed at us- the human ships and stations it's been imaging to grab our attention. Maybe there is still something buried in its signals to tell us what we are supposed to be wary of, or maybe there is something in Merope which poses the danger that it is warning of. Alternatively it is warning something (presumably in Merope system) of our activities- I suggest if anyone is heading Merope-wards that planet 6 be thoroughly searched. Its high orbital inclination implies it was captured from another star, so maybe the warning is related to that.

Yeah I was just trying to find that article - I know it was before 1/10/2015... sorry 1/10/3301... as I found a post of mine from thread 3 making reference to it and I remember reading it (I think it was Palin himself) but I'm thinking it's gone the way of the Mayflower

Just wanted to check in and cross reference some findings with you all.

Those of us out exploring in the 'Formidine Rift', although not necessarily a relevant mystery, have also located USS's in Systems near to and inside the Heart Nebula. Interestingly, as far as I can report, there are no occurences of such USS's spawning in the Soul Nebula.

Could it be possible that UA's and Barnacles might also exist in the Heart Nebula?

this has led me to believe that these USS's which contain a wrecked ship and Data Caches are somehow connected to the Formidine Rift mystery... however reading the previous post in this thread mentioning the same USS's spawning in and around Barnards Loop Nebula and inside the California Nebula, and Drew Wagar's cryptic comment about "Nebulae are good places to hide things" and I think there may be some connection between these two mysteries, or at the very least an interesting find regarding the likelihood of USS's spawning outside the bubble but specifically inside Nebulae.

For those of you UA/Barnacle researchers not familiar with the Formidine Rift (as I assume the two mysteries have diverged somewhat) you can find the thread here.

they cant be connected. The formadine rift has been and available. Since the start of the game since gamma. Thats what FD said they also said its to separate things.

That's fine, and kind of makes sense - but then that would mean that either the USS's spawning out in Nebulae aren't related to anything (just part of the RNG), or one thing (Rift or UA's), or both (independantly). <shrugs>

Hi Guys! ... I think I might of found something (Provided it hasn't already been dismissed somewhere else in the thread)

So I was thinking what if the whole UA pointing at Merope has to do with it's star type (B-type)

(All of these screenshots are taken from viewing the galaxy map from the top)

So I filtered by B-type stars...

It clearly looks like an arrow

Which if followed in a straight line is pointing to the Heart Nebula.
