UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 6 - The Canonn

if you are on multiple sides of the star and it one end of the UA aligns with the star, then there is no question about what side is pointing to what. Assuming all UA's are pointing to only one thing if you're on many sides of the star and it aligns to the center of the star then it's pointing to the star. It simply cannot point to any other 1 item.

Firstly I wanted to say thanks for this excellent thread, the information compiled has been extremely helpful, and this has become my go to place for information regarding barnacles.

I wanted to ask if anyone had tested if it were possible to get a meta alloy to melting temperature by taking it to hot planets and ejecting it etc.? It would be extremely important to know this information if it were possible. It could potentially help figure out what planets are definitely too hot to find live barnacles on.

However, the melting point of meta alloys would not necessarily have to be the same as the safe living temperature for a barnacle. I do think that any information that is able to be acquired by the players could be important though.

Okay, I found myself a barnacle... California Sector DL-Y D4 C6 Coords: -29.43/-54.32
Somehow I cannot upload a screen shot image (whatever I do to upload I get "invalid file" icon...), so I just share the link for it:

It has single main node, undestroyed, undefended. I won't do any harm to it (just scan it). Maybe we could use it to test how/if they get destroyed or "replicate"? o7

This morning I am checking the barnies and I stumbled upon a crashed navigation beacon.. I didn't remember them having marking on the side. This one has RF-78 and they have a very different noise. This may beacon is just 1.9km from the barnacle at-24,749. -64,0 429. It might be space madness but could it be an attempt to communicate?. Just so you know this Barney has 12 spikes and not 11 . One of the spikes is nearly impossible to see, and I can confirm that the spikes are broken.

As soon as you drop in, a notification pops up saying "Ship Scan detected".
Soon after, once the instance spawns everything, you should see a white cargo marker. It should appear. Maybe the connection was bad to the server or something else glitched out.

the UA will scan you only when you are <1km. you can get into the USS and not be scanned at all by maintaining the distance.

the scan message you get is the same one when someone is scanning your cargo.

anyone else noticing the UA sound pitch changes with your speed? sounds like a multplied Doppler effect.

Would this be the second barnacle found at that nebula then? Congrats btw

While slowly exploring my way down to Merope in my new Asp, I stumbled across a UA in a system where I did not really expect it. A check of the alignment confirms it is still pointing at Merope. But note the distance.

I thought the shell was from 135-145, not 147? This is in Hyades Sector HW-W c1-16, 7.32 LS off planet #10.

I originally wanted to pick it up and drop it in the Merope system, but I just noticed that I put in two AFM instead of an AFM and a cargo rack, so I will have to continue to Maia, do some outfitting, and then return into the UA shell.

please, read about the UA and the UA shell in the third post of this thread, right under the
WHERE TO FIND A UA title.

135 to 150 LY from Merope.
that pointing alignment is quite good

doppler effect is well known; yes.

also - when/if you damage it, it changes almost immediately and goes up in pitch slowly as it degrades. Both phenomena have been around since day one :)

I still find the doppler effect overexagerated, not a real doppler effect and this is what I was making a point about.

Ok, here we go..

Take a look at the pictures about the numbers found in the space debris.. There seems to be a match on the CR-P 6 base found in Maia.

You guys sure there's definitely still something to find in Merope? Countless people have been searching for months and nothing else....yet.

I enjoy this mystery but it seems as though it's being dragged out too much, anyone else feel like this? Or is it just cus I've been away for a couple of months....

Countless people? A couple of hundred maybe. To search 13 landable bodies totaling over 200 million square km, more than the surface area of the Earth. You've massively underestimated the size of stuff in space. But then, everyone does.

Well I just woke up. Where we at? I read through the pages I missed. Did we get anywhere on that unknown vessel?

Apparently the wrecks containing these private data beacons are manufactured by the same people that planted mining outposts in Maia and Merope:

I'd say they are related, but obviously, if these wrecks were in game before 2.1 no one noticed they are related.

Well I dont think that really means anything. Most likely just icing on the cake.
