NPC destroyed me and I lost my data

Hi i am just raising an issue with the npcs in this elite dangerous, i had been out exploring and obtained about 1 or 2 mill credits worth of data planetry scans and system scans, i also collected and scanned loads of new stuff ie new metals and such, i was on my way back to sol and eventualy got there to hand in my data, but a stupid npc interdicted me and before i could do anything i was blown to bits, now this npc thing ir rediculas everyone thinks so and i can not see why they are even needed to be so hard, no one in the game wants them to be it was better as they were before any of this engineers rubbish, no one even wanted the engineers stuff and now we are forced to have it when all we wanted was horizons planetry landing added to the game, not any of this virtualy impossibe to get a shot at npcs, i wish frontier would take a step backward in the game and get rid of these stupid engineering stuff and get the npcs back to the original way they were bcos there is no point to the game anymore you go out exploring you get back to hand in data and are deatroyed, you try to do missions you get destroyed, you try to trade you get destroyed what is the point put the npcs back to the way they were or i can see a lot of people giving up on this game the game is awesome best game ever made on any platform but it is being ruined by nonsensical npc overpowering and stupid engineer weapons the people dont even want

thank you for listening and i hope i can either be compinsated for all my money i have lost as well as the data

Not sure why you posted this here, however, please don't speak on behalf of everyone.....I wanted and like the new update. It was way too easy before.
Sorry for your loss of data, but it is dangerous out there commander

Fair play commander if you are happy then i am sure everyone is butevery player i have spoken too hate it and i mean everyone so i am speaking on behalf of everyone i know but one thing i will say is without wishing to sound dissrespectful as i rspect your opinion i will say however can you come back and say that when u lose your ship all of your credits and end up back in a sidewinder too

There are a number of things to make sure of while flying an Exploration ship, any one of these WILL make you a target....

Do you do PP & have you pledged with anyone? - makes you a target

Do you have a mid to high combat ranking? - makes you a target

Are you carrying any cargo? - makes you a target

Are you currently doing any missions? - makes you a target

Have you any bounties on your head? - makes you a target

You see where Im going with this.....most things that you can do in-game makes you a target except Exploration.

I seem to get away with this by being able to say NO to all the above questions.
You can't go meandering through the bubble visiting populated systems & not expect to be interdicted by NPC's.

I set myself up with a 'return home base' a good 14 months ago now....right on the edge of civvy space with a station less than 100LSs from the main star. Iv returned with 280mil credits worth of data & made it home safely.
Then I swap ships & spread the data around the local area so that I become Allied with as many factions as possible.

My combat rank is Mostly Harmless so when travelling inside the bubble I plot to my target system using only 0 population systems until I reach the target system. This way I never see any NPCs unless I'm in a populated system, but because Im not carrying any cargo or other stuff that may get me noticed, I reach the destination without little hassle.

It's trying to out fox the game by thinking ahead!

I'm all for the challenge, but situations where NPC's go "all that tasty cargo" when you have none need to stop. If they just made them interdict and attack only for valid reasons everything would be ok. Not sure why this escapes FDev.

The issue with the NPCs being REALLY GOOD now is a valid one. Explorers leaving the bubble prior to 2.1 (and thus outfitting their ships according to the NPC threat level at that time) will certainly have hard time if they try to return alone. It can be an unpleasant surprise as you learned the hard way.

If exploration data was something you could steal from destroyed ships, then their aggressive behavior would even be justified - though right now it seems somewhat pointless.

In the longer term I think the change to better skilled and more aggressive NPCs are ok though (especially if they actually have a valid reason for attacking explorers… like exploration data caches surviving ship destruction). As players we will have to adapt to that new reality. On future exploration trips we will all have to outfit our ships to be able to survive a NPC encounter, or call in an armed escort to help us on our return.

I don´t want the changes rolled back, but you have my sympathy for the data and time you lost.

Cheers :)

Sorry for your loss, but the NPC AI is a good move and I welcome it. As for coming back into the bubble there are several groups that will escort you, Iridium Wing being the most well known.

Yesterday I was being chased by an 'elite'-ranked diamondback explorer... he had those purple balls of death. One hit -> AspE shields down (3A shields, so no wonder in that), second hit, hull down to 70% or so, then I managed to jump away.

Nasty buggers, they are. Mostly annoying, but can be rather deadly if you don't manage to get the hell out quickly enough.

Also why would elite ranked pirate come after me when my total cargo worth is something along the lines of 30k credits and my combat rank is novice. No profit nor fame to gain. Silly.

This is what I've been having an issue with in 2.1 mostly. I'd totally understand rich pirates coming after rich loots (say, you're hauling a million worth of palladium), but to actively chase for this kind of chump change while sporting weaponry costing probably millions (or likely priceless, as in engineer upgrades)...

And before you ask, no, I was not on any mission. They just keep coming even if you have 3 units of biowaste in your cargo hold. "So the rumours were true, this is the one with big haul"... yeah indeed.

Also, "better AI" is in my books not synonymous to "increased, harder, spawns". Since I keep running away from any combat encounters I can't comment much if the NPC behavior is in any way enhanced... only thing I know is that police ships which spawn when responding to a crime don't seem to be interested in shooting at my assailants either. Oh well.

Yep, good rules to abide by when exploring, and I follow every one of them.

2.1 is much more dangerous than before, it's why from now on I'll be exploring with 5A shields and 5A thrusters on my Asp, fast boosting for escaping and much stronger shields than the 3D's I explored with before. Yeah it means I'm not jumping as far as I could with the lighter modules, but safe is safe and no amount of jump range will save you when you get interdicted by something Elite and Dangerous. Still keeping the weapons off my ship though, I'll always be running from fights when out exploring.

I have a new Cmdr; harmless, penniless and no cargo rack - yet I still get interdicted time and again when I'm in the bubble, by NPC who want all my tasty cargo. I could understand the occasional interdiction by a psycho who just wants to watch the galaxy burn, but as it stands at the minute it's frustrating and obviously broken.

If you think the interdiction shouldn't have happened, go and add the details to this thread

But if you follow my rules but are in the bubble in populated systems you will be interdicted.......I travel through the bubble by moving only to 0 population systems, Iv yet to see a NPC while in these systems & in SC. Others may have, but I believe that my mostly harmless rank & travelling without cargo is keeping the NPCs away.

I have been scanned & even attacked while sitting on a planet, but not while in SC......long may it last

I've been out since before the Engineers update was released and I'm currently heading back. I have to admit, I'm a little worried with all these stories of a new, badder, AI, but, in the end of the day, that's the risk we take. Sorry about your loss. Hope you make it up quickly again.

This sounds exactly like what happened to me just now. I haven't played the game in months, but just got my CV1 and decided to give it a go again.

I had never tried exploring, so I went out doing that. After probably 10 hours of game play and hundreds of light years of travel, I decided to head back and collect my coin.

I was just a couple light-seconds away from a station when I was interdicted. I was not carrying any cargo. I have no warrants. There is absolutely NO reason someone would want to kill me. Yet this NPC destroyed me in just two shots. I did not have time to do anything. I didn't even see him.

When the interdiction started, I throttled back to submit, knowing that I'd be able to jump sooner and get away. But I was less than 3 seconds after dropping out of supercruise before I was dead.

I'm all for realistic and somewhat more aggressive AI to make it more challenging. But this is a bit absurd and pretty much guarantees I'm going to shelf the game again indefinitely. What's the point if you can't do anything at all because these god-like NPCs kill you with 3 shots for no reason whatsoever?

It's sad, because this is a pretty fun game, but I'm not going to waste my time if I know this crap is programmed into it. It completely removes the skill element and turns it into a game of chance.

Elite Dangerous is exactly that, sorry for your loss though. Try some smuggling missions, there are a number of techniques you can adopt to reduce the risk of interdiction and they work.

I am still on my way back from the DW expedition, it has been my longest duration outside the bubble and I must admit I shall be taking extra care when I return to civilisation.

To be frank, I don't understand all the whining going on about 2.1 and the NPCs.
I'm a fairly bad shooter with mouse+keyboard yet I'm able to fly around even in an Adder without major issues. With an FDL, I could finish mid-rated NPC in ships like clipper and other mid-ranged ships. I know my place and I boost away from elite FASes and FDLs.

Sure, I'm not pledged to any power and I'm mostly harmless in combat rank, still I find this issue way overblown by -hopefully- only an entitled minority. This game has a steep learning curve that just goes on (I'm still learning it after 8 months of gameplay), but it is very rewarding for those who make an effort.

In the same situation here ..

"I have seen things will not Tsedkoha. Warships in flames on the shoulder of Orion. I've seen rumored Seine, shine in the darkness of Tanhauser gate. All moments lost in time, like tears in the rain"

Nice bit of prose .. is it translated correctly?

It's close... It should be (from memory, the quote is from Bladerunner)

"I've seen things you people couldn't possibly imagine. Attack ships on fire on the shoulder of origin, C-beams twinkling at the Tanhauser gate. All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain. Time to die".

ETA - I wasn't quite right either. Damn you memory!

It's not whining.. it's just stating the facts... I will no longer play a game that literally gives me ZERO chance of success. What is a new player to do if they can't even make an exploration run without being instantly blown up by over-aggressive and over-powered AI when they return? AI should at least follow some sense of realism instead of just randomly killing nobodies for no reason. I played in Solo mode to get away from jackass kids who would do something like that. Turns out, the developers just programmed jackass AI as well.

So, back to my other games it is. Enjoy.
