Chris specifically says CIG will be presenting to press at Gamecom, presumably this will be new footage as he also said some of this may be shown to the public at the booth. Please watch the video again from 8.35.
Yes but just a current build and some more mockups

I'm a bit in shock as that seems like suicide now, still nothing to show :(

Why the passive-aggressiveness? It's like people get angry by the news of upcoming updates and showcase of features?
Ofc that they will amaze (again) with a showcase of new features/content. Has anyone forgotten last GamesCom presentation? Let me remind you then in first hand with some nerdy friends:

Like I've said all along, expect a big big revelation in terms of planetary landing & procedural generated planets detail and fidelity. Oh that shows is going to be a doozy.

I watched the video. He basically admits that what they'll be showing there won't be very new, or that groundbreaking. There "maybe" a few tidbits here or there. There "maybe" a nice new pre-rendered animation or two to tide over the backers. But all in all, it's going to be a fairly low key event by their own standards. I mean, why is he making such a huge deal about the "heat issues" at the venue, when all the other big publishers are going to be there and present as always?

Sounds to me that Chris was trying to get his excuses in early for how and why their own presence there will be far from impressive.

You are entitled to your opinion but we should be careful not to read too much into what is being said by Chris. He said "We're definitely going to be showing some cool stuff at Gamescon to press and we'll probably have some element of that shown on the show floor". Chris never went into the specifics of what would be shown, whether it was new, ground-breaking, pre-rendered animations, etc. We'll have to wait until Gamescon for that.

Regarding the heat issues this was in reference to a separate event that CIG did during Gamescon that was for Star Citizen only and was held in a separate venue. The facilities they booked had no air conditioning and water wasn't readily available. CIG staff were concerned that there could be a medical issue so they certainly would have taken that into consideration when making a decision as to whether they should hold another presentation this year. Regardless of the reason CIG are not doing a separate presentation this year but will have a larger presence as Gamescon itself than in previous years.

Please see my other response above. We do not know what will be revealed at Gamescon.

I'll just start by saying I genuinely hope you are right. Here's what I think will happen instead: at best they will pullout some semblance of what you state for show, but it won't be something they can actually deliver to backers. They'll make excuses after people complain (and ban the ones who complain too much and those will be welcomed over here) and then they will ignore it and then they will pretend it was never promised despite evidence because (incert excuse here). The Germans will disappear as magically as they came in (ilfonix style) and some other element of the game will become "priority" in order to push out SQ42 or whatever.

Really proKar?

Really?

That video is nearly a year old, and as I remember correctly, all they ended up revealing was... well, not much of anything worth noting. In fact, it's rather amazing just how much this "reveal" from last year of the game hasn't improved, nay, has actually *degraded* since this was shown. All you're doing by showing this video is revealed just how *little* the game has progressed in 9 months.
Not exactly a "slam dunk" moment from you.... Not that you've ever managed that though. :)

So I advise you to try again.
Maybe Scott Manley's latest video for instance would be a better barometer to show us what the current state of the game is perhaps? Not something whipped up quickly to get the backers hopeful again? :)

You must have not been following the game then, Gamescom 2015 presentation showed for the first time:

- Double Precision 64bit map tech in place = Large World
- Multiple Physics Grids = Multicrew Ships interaction
- EVA

The foundation for the later patch in 2.0 (November). People now take those for granted but what we got was even better.
Besides what was already shown in gamescom:

- Double Precision 64bit map tech in place = Large World
- Multiple Physics Grids = Multicrew Ships interaction
- EVA

We got additional Missions/Quests/PVE and FPS to boot.

As I said several times, expect planetary landing showcase, even bigger world map stuff (new additions to the Stanton System), new pirate base (gold horizon) / Asteroid base (nyx) in Gamescom (August) & CitizenCom (October) and then in November/December the roll out to the public build just like the year before, same modus operandi as last year.

And I'm not even accounting new ships they will add to flight and hangar ready (Reliant, Herald, Caterpillar, etc)

There hasn't been a show that Star Citizen didn't made an impression, being it on it's backers or in the gaming press, this Gamescom will be no different. Prepare to be mind-blown.

And with ME:A, CoD:IW and other new games with latest game engine going to gamescom too...sure I'll be mind-blown.

I wonder if the "keep the faith" posts on reddit and elsewhere are parodic, or if they are alts of CIG employees laying the groundwork for a bid at tax-free status?

Not to diminish the great of work of other studios/games but they will not be able to compete with Star Citizen, they lack the procedural generation tech and the capability of seamless planetary landings so they will not be as impressive as Squadron42. Yes you heard it right, that tech will be a reality also in Squadron42, it's not only reserved for the Online Universe. So while COD and ME will use cutscenes/loading screens to go from planet to space Star Citizen/Squadron42 will do it all seamlessly without loading screens, and most importantly with an unprecedented amount of freedom letting you fly from capital ship to a pirate base (infiltration mission) on a planet detailed as any Crysis island game. All while retaining the freedom to fly trough the planet and choose where you want to land. Just Wait.

You mean like infinity battlescape, NMS, Empyriom Galactic Survival, Evochon and a few others? Seamless planet to space is neither unique nor new.

None of which actually exists until they...you know....show it; being actually played;in something more than would amount to a 6 person LAN party on a stage. Even the last "OOOooo" planetary landing video, that they tried to pass off as player controlled, they had to go back and recant that in fact it was pre-rendered. So forgive some of us that have been around for 2-3 years and seen this "Just you wait until XXXX show, boy, will you see something!" spiel many times before if we want to wait until...you know...it's actually something real and not yet another fevered dream by a fan.

Whoa...I am mind-blown now and you are 100% right Chris is not building the game he is literally building a UNIVERSE.....

Just wait?
What for?

CoD:IW - Play as hero saving Earth. Seamless transition from foot to space craft to space to eva to capital ship.
ED - 1:1 Milky Way Galaxy Simulation with Planetary Landings on non-atmospheric planets. Currently in season 2.
ME:A - Sci Fi RPG
NMS - Sci Fi Fantasy Exploration
Star Wars Battlefront - On planet fps pew pew

Do I still need to wait for SC/SQ42 and when are they coming? Oh...last I heard there is no date given.
Soooo...Money goes to other new games and none goes to SC/SQ42.

Thanks for your advice but no thanks.

I think whether your mind will be blown or not will probably depend on what camp people sit in right now. If you already love SC then the reveals at Gamescon and Citizencon will likely be great, if you are actively against the project then likely nothing will impress. I myself am quite looking forward to it. The jump from AC to the mini-PU was significant. If they can make the same sort of jump this year by showcasing a much larger environment with more content (Stanton system), procedural planets with space -> surface transitions & maybe a few more flight ready ships then I'll be suitably impressed.

I'm yet to make a judgement on CoD:IW and ME:A. There simply hasn't been enough shown of either yet and there has been even less SQ42 news so there is no way to make a comparison.

Guess you didn't read that I was talking about Squadron 42, the single-player campaign story will have planetary landings in PG planets of a massive scale, its the main difference to the mentioned COD & ME. It's all in a big world without removing control from the player, no fake cutscenes to transition from space to land and vice versa. We will be flying side by side with Mark "Skywalker" Hamill trough gas clouds and canyons ala Star Wars and fight side by side in fps fights in pirate bases and deep into the vandull space.

Amazing!
