My name is Electric Kite.

And i like Elite Dangerous.

In most parts of the Galaxy (and these forums) i am also labelled a "White Knight". A fanboy or "Someone who has F.D's inserted firmly into my Heart <AHEM>"
I suppose. for the most part, thats true. While i have no problem being called a white knight...what i do have a problem with is people assuming its some kind of insult.
Yes...i will passionaltey defend this game. Just like you passionaltey knock it. If im a white knight...what are you, the accuser? The fallen knight? The Black Knight? A knight that gave up on his dreams? A bitter knight?

To me a Wite Knight is the greatest of titles when it comes to video games. It stands for belief. For love of something that is indeed flawed but you hope and urge better things for it. Not cast it aside and give up on it.
White Knights do not think a thing is perfect. White Knights accept things are NOT perfect but are happy anyway. They love their game. Yes we may find it difficult to accept SOME Black Knights opinions but not because they are wrong..but because MANY are so smeared with bitterness and irrational hate: ( "ive played for 4k hours and ive had enough i quit!") really? OK..
We dont understand how something that brought us so many hours of joy could make a person so miserable. Thats our only fault. And i apolagise for that.

I can hear the stampede of Black Knight hoofs thundering towards my last bastion. Who will stand with me?

I am pretty sure a vast majority of the people that has issues with this game, address those issues out of passion and love for the game.
This is why I do it.
If I did not, I just would not bother.

Even Obsidian And is unhappy with the game right now; nobody loves the game more than him.

I would say at my core I am a raving fanboy. I love Elite Dangerous and play for hrs even now.

but equally I would say I am also highly critical of ED as well, not because I do not like the game, but because I love the game DESPITE it paining me that there is so much missing, so much of what is there is bare bones and does not make sense in a logical universe and so much of it can surely be so much better.


not sure if that makes me a white knight or a black knight.

I guess I am more of a creamy coffee knight :D

I like to think of myself as the kind of player who enjoys the game but is equally vocal and forcibly tried to keep FD on their toes, and let them know when things are not working as promised / expected / advertised, but at the same time do it without being rude or too toxic / negative because after all, I find one tends to get their way more in life by being polite and friendly even when being slightly critical.

I will also till the day the servers are turned off continue to remind FD of their kickstarter dev diaries, of the depth outlined, and equally point out it was ultimately once ideas had been passed from gamers to devs it was Design DECISION Forum not a Design DISCUSSION Forum back when I backed ;)

It's like when you get a fanboy for a band that loves absolutely everything they do "because a real fan loves all their work no matter what". And realistically, you both know said band's last album was an atrocity. Not just that you don't like it - that it really is a poor piece of work. It's okay to like a band and still enjoy their work, still see the shows, still be excited for them, still be a fan-but it doesn't mean you have to pledge yourself to supporting anything they do right or wrong.

FD, being the band here, released not even a bad album as such, but released a good album that you can only buy on a cassette tape. The content is there even if it's a foul time actually getting/using it. And it's okay for us to complain we don't like it, because we aren't trying to bring FD down; we want an improved game. We want their last album on a bloody CD and not a cassette.

Ultimately though...we still enjoy the game. Or why are we playing it in the first place? To me, campaigning for a better game by putting the time into petitions and feedback is being the better fan, rather than supporting even the wrong decisions.

So true........anyone who says Metallica made a good album after Master of Puppets is out to lunch............once Cliff and Daves influence was fully out of the band, they produced nothing but country rock-n-roll.......that's when they became "Mainstream" and boring as hell.......

I have been called a White Knight, even when I have criticized certain aspects of the game like powerplay, some of the ranges of the overlap on the RNG on the enginners and exploring, we need more varied stuff to discover.

What I have seen is that you get called a White Knight when you don't agree with someone elses negative opinion, this has been my experience.
