Eh, maybe. I'll grant you that an actual binary representation of Pi would look different e.g. 3142 in binary is 110001000110, and that what we seem to have is four separate binary numbers counting out 3, 1, 4, 2 which are the decimal digits of Pi. So if it is Pi, it's a bit anthropocentric, and we might not expect that from a real alien message. OTOH the message is actually from FDev and maybe it's a bit less alien than it's supposed to be (if the UP/UA are even non-human) or, for an in-lore explanation, maybe they're intentionally using a number base we know to communicate with greater ease.

OTOH I could be convinced by the idea they're numerical indices too.

Right now it could be either. "Not Pi" requires slightly fewer assumptions which is good, but the fact it appears to be a circle sort of suggests Pi might be a thing you'd see.

Until it's decoded, I think it's hard to say with confidence that it's no Pi.

After reading up the morse-Code- ship shape UA thing my believe in devs beeing skilled to creating a msg that could come from extraterestrials (morse Code really !?) are scattered. Ok that hidden Image in an audio spectrumanalysis is clever but I guess for the message itself we have to go down as low as the morse Code and ship shape in a letter-value coordinate System.

with this in mind my guess then is that the middle is the place where we should place the proble and it points toward that mephope C5 or how that planet/System is called where the System is probabily reflected on the bottom line...and following that line probe - C5 -- you should see a nebula or something. the other 2 lines on the circle are than also visual guide rays in a way,
That means place it on that secret location above that System (dunno where exactly) honk and you will get ..hmm a drawing of the starsystem in ASCII Code..

3.412 is NOT pi. 3.142 is the decimal approximation of pi. pi is actually 22/7. If thus message was about pi it would represent it as the ratio 22/7 rather than 3.142 which is "about" pi.

in a lot if calculations (especially ones done on a planetary of galactic scale) using 3.142 intead of the actual pi ratio would introduce WAY too much error.

therefore I dont think its pi.

For example in my interpretation I hear russian "11 151 Freya" (frey). Voice starts from left channel and pan to center.

Yep I think its part of the missing most likely problem is for that to be true within the time frame they'd need to stay within 900 ly of Sol

In terms of interpreting the binary symbols it's

1) Get a stick
2) Adjust the phase of your chicken by 90 degrees
3) Shake it back and forth through 30 degrees
4) Find the wishbone, and make a wish

Still not entirely clear what the stick is for.

On a more serious note, I repeatedly said during beta that people thought engineering components dropped randomly because they were searching randomly (see my sig). Given we likely have 3/5th of the necessary clues it stands to reason that folks will glue them together in haphazard ways. Some ideas that seem silly based on missing information may pan out, others not so much. I suspect chicken phase is not in fact part of the puzzle but we shall see.

@Colonel Kenney, thanks for the UPC link. I suspect you just ruined about the next hour of my life.

Given that The Missing can't have left more than 1000 or so years ago (with the in-game date), that's unlikely - not enough time for such life to evolve and become intelligent to the point where their technology is the equal of ours.

Actually THERE IS a star system inside the cone of stars near orion nebula called "Frey" in the ORION Nebula!

I was actually heading out there last night but this blasted COL70 blockade ticks me off

Then there is one Frey in the bubble.. and a Freyr as well.

I think you're on the right track but I think you need to use the orbital inclination of Merope 5c rather than its axial tilt.

I don't think so. The axial tilt gives the shift in elevation. Like sumer and winter on Earth,
