Horizons Exploration of planets should . . .

Give us some income. I mean that when im on my exploration trip the game rewards the star dscovery, and planet scaning from orbit, so game doesent want us to land and explore the surfice of planet. I think that frontier should add ,to some more interesting planets ,some kind of strange surfice material?volcano?strange ice?strange rocks? Or something else to scan from srv for profit when you are on exploration in deep dark. I dont want to land on interesting planet only to make a foto ;)something interesting (i mean that pois) on planet should by visible after you scan planet from orbit with your detalied surface scaner. It should by viseble like we see what kind of materials are on a planet.

A couple of points in there :)

1) "the game rewards the star dscovery, and planet scaning from orbit, so game doesent want us to land and explore the surfice of planet."

Your exploration ranking is increased by driving around on the planets surface in the SRV. You can find materials and random POI where you can find and collect cargo.

2) "I think that frontier should add ,to some more interesting planets ,some kind of strange surfice material?volcano?strange ice?strange rocks? "

Volcanic planets are scheduled to be included in one the upcoming 2.x release (sorry - don't know which one right now)

You dident understand (i know that my english isent "perfect" :) )

I dont want materials and cargo when im on exploration. we need to have credits like we got from normal exploration from scaning obejscts on a planet when i am in deep black

I gotta say :

Earning 25M Cr?
~3hrs flying my Python in the bubble, running 90-140LY LR Missions, alternatively a single solid LR Smuggling stack from one of the known locations (-> about 1 hr).
Minimum 100hrs flying my Exploration Ship and scanning Objects. Likely more than 100hrs. Might be on tour for a few weeks for that and travel thousands of LY if I do actual Exploration.

While Exploration isn't all about Credits - its income indeed sits at the far far bottom end of all professions. Like... really far end.

PS.
An untagged Earth-Like world nets roughly 100k Cr when including the 1st Discovery Bonus. An Exploration jackpot. Those don't come by often to say the least.
100k Cr.

In comparison in terms of income, that's a 5min Courier Missions hop in a Sidewinder to the next 8LY System. Those are a dime a dozen, anywhere, anytime in the bubble.

I know that ,I dont do exploration for credits ive got billion of them. But a little reward for driving on a planet thats faaaaaaar awey from the bubble should been add. And i dont need to go 10 000ly just to find materials or gold. . ..

The problem with finding interesting stuff on planets is that (with the current system) it would be either incredible rare and hard to find or absolutely common.

That's why I propose a different system: If you use the DSS there is a small chance that you get a message "anomaly detected", this will spawn the scavenger hunt mechanic we already have in place for surface missions. It would be more believable while also adding an interesting element to gameplay and eliminate the problem of "rare stuff is way to common". It could completely replace the current blue circle POI mechanic.

I already suggested this back in beta and FDEV said they like the idea and would consider it IF enough people ask for it. Sadly it was ignored by the community because everyone was busy ranting over engineers and NPCs.

Yebbut, we want archaeology, we want geology, we want cartographic mapping, we want mineral surveys, we want terraforming, we want colonizing, we want space legs, crew, families, babies.... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand we want ale in the mess hall.

we don't want much :)

actually, all of the above would be something of a new league! (we don't want much)!

uhm, but as ian has said - that's already ingame.

you gain exploration rank by driving and collecting materials.

more, if you are more far away from sol.

Set up a poll. I will certainly say yes, as I think it would be a great addition.

For me, it isn't mainly about the money and it isn't mainly about the rank, the key point is there should be more activities available while exploring.

Don't get me wrong, I love exploring, I'm just back from a month-long tour of the Rift, but going out into the black is a large time investment that for its duration separates the player from most types of content in the game. You can't just decide to pick up a mission or drop into a RES for a change of pace like you can in the bubble. There should really be at least the option of introducing more variety to the exploration to offset this, while at the same time preserving or increasing the sense of isolation and discovery.

I think Babelfisch's idea of anomaly "treasure hunts" is an excellent one and I would definitely vote for it. I'd also like to see sub-orbital scanning of some kind that actually gives you are reason to drop down to planets while still making progress on exploration (however you choose to measure progress). Something that actually adds an element of visceral challenge and skill and interaction with the universe and isn't just another "hold button to honk"; something like flying low through canyons while scanning to map mineral seams, using a scanner that, let's say, takes a long time to recharge and builds heat as you fly, so you have to fly as low and fast as you can to get best use out of your limited scan time while balancing that against the danger to your ship and collected exploration data. Okay, I just pulled that off the top of my head right now, it's probably a stupid idea, but the point is: we need more to do out there.
