As someone who owned Elite: Dangerous long before the Feb 5 2016 deadline, I feel cheated in not being able to get the Cobra Mk.IV now that I've finally managed to scrape together the money to purchase the DLC. I was really looking forward to trying out this new ship, but no, even though I've payed for it, because I couldn't get the money fast enough, I'm not allowed; it's like it was being held hostage and there was nothing I could do. Now the completionist in me will never rest, and I will never get to fly this ship. I just hope it gets released to everyone when the season is finished, at least, but I won't hold my breath; please don't let this be yet another case where I am denied content because of my financial status - I can't be the only one, either.

EDIT: I don't hold this against FD, nor am I particularly outraged, for those who are taking this more seriously than I am. I am simply irritated because of pre-order culture. Also, for those who mentioned paint jobs, those don't annoy me really because, one, they're cosmetic-only, and two, I'm not against event-exclusive content, just pre-order-exclusive content (Although I definitely would like to see them become available to all at some point, because gosh darn if they aren't some sexy paint jobs!). Maybe Frontier will add it again to Season 3, maybe they'll make it freely available come Season 3, and that'd be fantastic, but if they don't, oh well, it's not the end of the world, it's just, well, like I said - irritating.

I'm guessing it'll come as a pre-order exclusive to season 3 along with other bonuses. I think it's a bit soon to fire that particular bullet out to the free for all.

On the subject welcome to every pre-ordered game ever. Lets wait and see what happens up until December/January, if it's still in the "locked" category I'd be on your side at that stage (1yr after release).

I have the cobra mk4. Most hate it, I like it, and I feel there should be a way to get it. Maybe a frontier store thing, that way there remains an exclusive advantage for those who care, and those who really want it can get it.

What do you even mean by "denied content because of your financial status"? You chose not to pre-order something and therefore didn't get the pre-order bonus associated with it. How is that FD's fault?

yeah its not a ground breaking ship, in fact until you bath it in milk feed it honey and hand feed it a staple diet of engineer upgrades it kind of sucks, that said once it has been fed its diet of engie upgrades it can be a bit of a beast for its class.

I'd give you mine if I could - but players can't transfer ships (or exchange much else for that matter, except bullets.) I'm sure one will become available at some stage.

Why not write, really politely, to FD and request. Although their game is as boring as watching someone else watch paint drying on a wet wall, their customer support is really good and I've always found them very helpful.

It's just a simple question as to whether something that was a bonus for those that did it when they could would some day be available to those that didn't. I took a leave of absence for a time and came back too late to pre-order. I'm not worried about not being eligible for the mark IV, been having hella-fun since I've come back.

I've played many other games where time in service and pre-orders get you specifics, but I've never held it over people's heads.


Anyways, seeing as how the Mark IV isn't the be all, end all, uber mammy ship of the game, I think if FD want's to include it into their next pre-order along with whatever extra they have planned, I'm all for it. Just like seasonal legendaries in Diablo 3. Seasons gets it, then once the seasons done, the others get it.

But I'm not salty about missing out. Just don't like the bag people are bringing.

I mean that I didn't "choose" not to pre-order, I would've pre-ordered if that had been an option to me, but because I couldn't afford it at the time, I couldn't.

I've just flown an unmodded Cobra mk IV to Jaques .... took a while (to say the least) with it loaded up for mining, repair, exploration, and cargo, so it only jumped about 16 to 18 ly at a time, but it got there, so not too bad. Now I can use it for mining, for which it is more capable.

I think they're in a bind with releasing that one. Maybe FD could put it to a vote from current CM4 owners. As one myself, Id be happy if the content was shared.

I dont understand why FD block ships to players. I own a cobra mk4 and i want to every player (comander) can buy it. Its another not realistic wall in the game.

I agree. See my post in the first reply. If I were FD I'd put it on season 3 pre-order bonus.

That or make it purchasable from any Engineer base (Horizons only content) for 1 year followed by completely open the year after. Basically waterfall down on content.
No one can be annoyed as they all get it eventually. Pre-ordering people cannot get annoyed as access has been fully restricted for 1 year and partially for another before being unlocked.

Because it bumped pre-orders up significantly and got money in the bank for FD to plan future design and development instead of speculating if/when people will buy. Same tactic most developers use. This isn't about in-game, this is about real life.

Indeed, I am with Alex, either as a pre-order bonus for Season three, or Available to Season two owners after Season three releases, so any exclusivity for the Pre-Order ship is for the Current season.
Seems to be the best way to please the most number of people

This. Waterfall content is a system I can certainly get behind; I'd be over the moon with it being the norm for all games.
