Retracted.

Should I even be surprised that so few have been pirated compared to those that have been killed?

I also have no idea what Mitterand Hollow is.

I think that they are a little specific... maybe: landed at a planetary base would be suitable

hu? specific?

smuggling to military outposts is the only smuggling where you really need cold running/silent running.

and i guess, battlesidey/hauler taken into combat is something, most players with some CR have done at some point. taking a t9 to a cz would be specific...

I love how 'being killed by another player' is almost twice as many as those saying 'they have killed another player'.

Someones not telling the truth here..

Should I even be surprised that so few have been pirated compared to those that have been killed?

I also have no idea what Mitterand Hollow is.

Mitterand Hollow is a moon with a really short orbital period. For watching sunsets and such.

I'm guessing you're not an explorer? :p

I don't know if it's semi-permanent (or was just an amazing coincidence) but the only one I've seen so far was crashed into the side of a hill right next to the finish line of the Napier-Sommerfeld SRV rally on Ross 671 (i.e. next to Sommerfeld Enterprise)

Visited Mitterand Hollow - what's Mitterand Hollow?

Number one tourist destination!

I've hardly tried any but primarily because most of them require being in the Bubble and/or having access to a shipyard to add the relevant tech to my ship. I left the Bubble not long after getting the game and, apart from very briefly, haven't yet been back. I plan to try most things at some stage or another with the exception of attacking another ship for no reason.

with the exception of attacking another ship for no reason.

Yeah, I struggled over the wording for this one. Simply "killed another player" wasn't right because it can happen by accident (e.g. ramming) and I didn't want to use a phrase like "for no reason" because I didn't want to single out griefing. I think "deliberately killed" wasn't bad although someone mentioned self defence which isn't exactly what I had in mind. Perhaps "intentionally" would have been better. Polls ... it's all about the wording, so hard not to inadvertantly bias the results. No wonder people get paid good money to devise them.

Very inspiring list, thanks. I've noted the ravine crossing (where?) and the ice mining

On my TODO list it says "take buggy to Ariel in Sol for canyon jumping" so that's probably as good a place as any (assuming you have a Sol permit). I tried, and failed. Probably because I picked a canyon that was too wide.

Thanks. On both counts.
You're most welcome.

I'm guessing you're not an explorer? :p
I am thus experienced with exploration that I don't even know what qualifies as 1Ly outside of the 'bubble'
Does about 20lys past Robigo count? I'm open to trying stuff (heck I tried Minning!) but too many jump loading screens just make me queasy ...

(Damn that gif works for almost anything :))

I've yet to see a single one which is a shame for me personally because it was one of the highlights from what the 2.1 update added. Are they connected somehow with random mission messages or travelling outside of the bubble or something?

Oh wow, that's awesome. I gotta add that place to my lsst of "places to visit".

OK, 60% of you have witnessed a capital ship appearing. Where does one go to do this? Do I just need to spend more time in a combat zone?

pirated: 14+1 ( yes, long time ago )
killed player: 54+1 ( *evil laught* )
hmm...
Well, on the other hand since about 1.3/1.4 you basically can't pirate anymore, but you still can kill others.

5 minutes of looking for signal sources.

Combat zones is indeed where you'll find wild capital ships appearing. You just have to make sure that at least one of the two factions belongs to either the Feds or the Empire as Independent minor factions don't tend to spawn cap ships unless it's due to a bug.

Here's a clip of an Imperial Interdictor class cap ship appearing in a conflict zone. #ShamelessSelfPromotion:

It would be a good idea if out of this thread could come a "Bucket List" to things to try in Elite.

Maybe have a good version and an evil version (the former leaving out "anti-social" actions like killing another player).

There should be a another option on the list of "beat another player in PVP without killing them, e.g. leaving him without thrusters".
