I look on him as the band on the Titanic, providing entertainment as the ship sinks. It's not the bands fault it sank, but they made it more fun while it happened.

Fake. People who actually have done this would open himself to sea of legal issues in US. No smart person actually doing this would claim this.

Edit: also someone doing this wouldn't do prior Derek posting his blog post or opening himself to court case admitting this on subreddit. No, this guy didn't do this (nor he has sources claiming so).

Well, if that is true, it could massively backfire, because lots of people do actually believe what Derek says, and the media do take note as well. As the old saying goes, "There's nothing so absurd that if you repeat it often enough, people will believe it."

I have no idea how much of what Derek says is true or how reliable his sources are, but feeding him false information seems like an incredibly bad idea, because if they come out and say "haha, we made that up", many will not believe them anyway and will say its just more "truth".

Hah - I know for a fact that reddit guy is a double agent - I've been feeding him useless information for years!

ETA - I wanted to underline this joke with the scene from Where Eagles Dare where Burton gets the double agents to write down their real sources to compare with his fake sources - but I couldn't isolate it!

That's brilliant, trying to insinuate himself as one of the masterminds behind something he admits he didn't do even if it did happen, in advance of it happening, in a way that undermines the effect of the whole nefarious plot by exposing it prematurely. Genius.

If it was true I'm wondering when they will realize that believing a lie isn't legally or morally wrong, but that deliberately spreading false information about people or a company is potentially both.

If this is true then it's an absolute, and I mean absolute, PR disaster. Let's hope that it's false as either DS lives by his own words or dies by them. If CIG are seen in anyway complicit then uuurgh.

Example of top league PR/Advertising stuff: ad company that I worked for won a contract with UK govt. When we did we were all, in no uncertain terms, told that if we weren't legal on services that we won the account on then it was a sackable disciplinary offense. Our competitors would rinse us for it if a staff member linked to that company got busted for x.

Reddit is weird. Waters are definitely muddied but unless shennanigans is going on with burner accounts and TOR (or more) then your     is available to the courts. As DS is naming names I'll assume that courts may well be involved somewhen soon.
