So Python or Anaconda?

python. first of all, it is the largest "true multipurpose" - it can land on outposts. and you always come into situations (CGs, BGS work, missions...) where you want that.
second of all, it is a beast if engineered. probably the "one-ship"-ship.

conda is an amazing explorer, good trader etc. ... get that later!

Note: with engineer mod's on the FSD and careful use of D-rated modules where possible (to reduce weight) I can do the return trip from Sothis to Bubble (carrying 180+ tons of cargo) in around 20 jumps.

P.S. here's my load-out, range and CEOS/SOL jumps (admittedly un-loaded) ..

If you can't afford both a Python and an Anaconda, then get a Python. It will make you a lot of credits, and eventually you can own both.

But never sell the Python. Instead, engineer it up and make it into the ultimate multi-role, perfect for missions. I have all the high-end ships, but my Python still sees plenty of use, especially when I'm trying to up my rep with a system. It's just an awesome, useful ship.

i make my Python with A rated Modules, FSD lvl 4 , and some lighweight Eng mods to the python and i jump 29 ly and 20 ly laden, and i go fully armed if some nasty Npc tries to interdict me.

That's great, I was actually thinking the Python's FSD limits it on long trips but not anymore if I engineer it. Perfect.

I didn't even see your post there at first, wow.

The Python is one of the most versatile ships in the game and it's also much cheaper than the Anaconda, so I recommend it as a first step. It can be outfitted to any role and it's also more agile. With it you'll be able to collect even more money so in the end you can have both.

I took my Python to Sag A* with a 26ly jump range - I still miss it like it was part of me, come to think of it I did kinda merge with the seat fabric by the end.... now I have two Anacondas - make of that what you want, but get the Python rather than skipping to the 'conda otherwise you'll be missing out on a whole part of your development and enjoyment of the game :)

I just jumped out of the python and bought a conda. I must say the python a rated is a good ship. Stock it's trash, the anaconda is a beast, and definitely the better of the 2
I do miss the medium pad....that's all I miss. The conda does everything else better, cargo, Jumprange, armament, you name it. Though you will need more funding for annie. Get the python and make some cash.

Python FTW!

It is THE multi-role ship. Currently got mine outfitted for bounty hunting (shields, beams, multi-cannons, chaff, KWS, frameshift wake scanner + interdictor), fuel ratting (fuel transfer limpets), trading/smuggling (198 cargo) and long distance travel (fuel scoop, ADS and SRV + a grade 5 FSD upgrade for 33LY jump range). I can fly from the bubble to CEOS in 17 jumps, fuel rescue someone along the way, land on a planet and drive around for a bit, run Fed data delivery missions between CEOS & SOTHIS (landing at the medium sized outpost pad if required), deal with any NPC that interdicts me, run down a few wanted ships for their bounties and then pick up 190+ tons of cargo for a return trip back to the bubble that nets me over 20million credits.

What's not to like! :D

how heavily modded is your ship and how much did it cost?

mind you im NOWHERE near affording one

I don't feel like it's that heavily modified really but I've had a long time to tinker with it I suppose (a tweak here, an engineer modification there). The FSD now has a grade 5 mod for range and I'm currently working on the thrusters. Other than that it's pretty much just stock components. On price I always reckon' you need almost as much as the cost of the ship again to outfit it satisfactorily. I actually posted my coriolis.io load-out link a few posts back so you can see the exact price of everything there.

Total: 78 million apparently

Ahh, lower power plant and thrusters to lower costs, I can learn from this build and buy it even faster, thank you!

Actually it was to lower weight. For my play style jump range is my number one priority so I generally D-class everything apart from FSD and Fuel Scoop and then tweak things like thrusters and power distrib' (especially if I'm racing) so I can get decent boost speed.

The lower cost is a very nice side effect all the same. I'll post some photos when I have mine! :D

SO, with this CG about to complete I could easily afford this build with plenty of re-buys.

Python miner / trader - Coriolis

So after completing some community goals and gaining a windfall of credits I’m nearing 100 million. I tend to buy specific ships for specific roles. But I want one large multirole ship that can mine, trade, mission grind and fend off pirates when the need arises and basically do anything and everything.

SO

Do I save a little more for a python and kit it out initially for trade? (trade simply because it the cheapest build to earn some more credits with)

Or do i keep saving and splash out on an Anaconda also fitted for trade before I can fit it out more as a multi-role.

What would you pick?

My current ship list:
IEagle - Racer
Eagle - Bounty hunter
Viper M4 - Bounty Hunter (Sorry for all the Viper screenshots if I'm in your feed :p)
Cobra M3 - Mining
Type6 - Exploration
DIamondback Explorer - Rare Trades and smuggler
Type7 - Trading

Sell the T7: Pile of dingo's kidneys.
Sell the T6, and get a Keelback for mining. Use the DBX for exploring until you can afford an AspX and use the Cobra for smuggling.
Buy a Python and upgrade it as best you can while still affording insurance and cargo replacement. Keep upgrading it as and when you can.
You'll be able to afford a Conda eventually. ED is a journey: Enjoy the journey, don't rush the to finish line. (because there isn't one) :)
