Different strokes for different folks I guess.
Rather than have a point and click scanner find a set of ruins and then have some other type of scanner put up a text message as to what they're all about and then being told to take X number of a particular item there to an engineer for a reward I'd much rather see a rich, diverse brain teaser that either lets me use a knowledge of morse, or access to other forms of tech and problem solving (that we all have access to thanks to the magic of the internet these days).
It's what is helping Elite nurture the longevity of its playerbase IMHO. The typical lifetime of an MMO player in any given game is about 2/2.5 years. As long as they keep feeding us riddles and storylines that we can have an impact on I can't see myself going anywhere else anytime soon. Christ.. I've hardly payed anything else over the last few years, in fact the only games I've bought since have been for my 8 year old son and as amzing as Goat Simulator and Amazing Frog are I find this sandbox world/universe more intruiging.
Now listen to what you said.
You like cryptic morse whatever puzzles. Do you really think that is a good middle ground that most players would want to further the story line. Try to think beyond what works best for you, and see that there is a middle ground to be found.
Next. Anyone could use the internet to solve these puzzles. Really. Why is the game being played on the internet and not
In The Game ??? Most can easily see that it is because of a lack of in game mechanics.
And you really believe that most people would be able to solve these puzzles? Sorry but no. The game doesn't need mindbender puzzles to keep people interested, It needs engaging interesting game mechanics. You know, Stuff that is
In The Game. You know ?? The lack of depth we hear mentioned every other thread. Out of game content will never fill the in game lack of depth, not for most players.
Yes this is a great sandbox space game with good potential, but good sandbox games are not played on the internet!! They are supposed to be their own little universe. This game is often prided that it is based on a lot of real science. Yet all we have to work with to make discoveries is a button you push and you see some information on a system map. You really would prefer to do internet puzzles instead of having tools and instruments in game to really explore in game?
From what I see on so many forums is a call for better in game mechanics to add some depth to the game especially regarding exploration. This is what makes games last. Just look at the other great sandbox games.
I feel that the longer the puzzle masters suck up the out of game content fed to you, the more likely we will never see the wanted mechanics in the game at all.
