The Formidine Rift Expedition 3302

A modded Python should be able to even cross the Rift. It is a nice exloration ship when modded.
Take along the biggest scoop you can fit, power-plant the lowest A-graded plant that is able to power your modules, everything else D-graded to save weight. Put in at least 1 AFMU and a planetary vehicle hangar with 1 SRV. When 2.2 drops and there really are aliens all over the place you might need a better outfit with weapons.

Thanks for that Info Eisen, My Python Is / was primarily a trading vessel but its equipped with 3 pulse and 2 turreted pulse lasers, though i have yet to use them in anger. In the void I would keep them powered down (disabled in the modules panel) so i can open hardpoints and scan without being threatening, i would assume the intelligence would see my weapons are not powered, i can only hope.

Would purchasing an explorer be better than a python simply for the larger cockpit view? money is an object but lets assume it isn't, is an explorer likely to give me more jump range than a python specced out for exploring?

I'm honestly not convinced about the Alien threat. I have an easy enough time getting away from any NPC in my very underpowered and unarmed Trade-a-conda.

I'm sure Aliens will be a greater threat, I just don't believe the interdictions will be that common. I would expect one every.. what 10kLY? Too much more and it becomes.. well.. Uninteresting.

The last thing we need is:
"I finally found you..." in Alien speak every second jump.

At this stage its quite possible that its not the alien threat we need to be armed for....
There's a lot of other organisations interested in the data, maybe its them we need to be prepared for, some of these organisations will do anything to make sure they solve the mystery first.
Killing people for their databanks is probably very low on their list of unacceptable conduct.

Just been reading the initial thread about the formidine rift (which discussion is closed on now) https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...t-what-is-it?p=2167622&viewfull=1#post2167622

A very interesting comment by Acaelus Thorn:

I'll tell you what is weird tho. I found ONE other reference to the Formidine Rift and that was a small post in the comments of kickstarter by John Harper author of And Here the Wheel. He states:
"You don't know what I've seen. I've sailed beyond the Formidine Rift, seen the fleets of Octagonal ships blocking out the stars. I've stood on lost worlds, sterilised clean by the Thargoids and erased from humanity's maps. I've seen the graves from the Thargoid wars, countless headstones stretching beyond the curvature of the horizon, little spots of reflected light dottering the abandoned continent ..."

From that i get the impression that what we are searching for lies BEYOND the Rift in the last ARM perhaps, but hey what do i know i am just an intrigued CMDR with no experience and a brain full of Onionhead.

I just bought myself an ASP Explorer and made my trip to see Felicity in Deciat, we had a good chat and she fixed up my A5 FSD with a 45LY range.

I will go beyond the Rift to cure my curiosity, i will probably find nothing, as i have not a clue what i am looking for, though i am not the type to wait around, i will let you guys know how i get on.

See you in the void

Btw is their a private group for the Rifters?

I am headed toward the rift on xbox. Any staging area to check out or is it mostly a PC thing?

Hi CMDR! There are some Xbox players among us, but EAFOTS is huge, and you can consider yourself very lucky to meet somebody by chance. I recommend to follow the instructions on the first post to get a work packet assigned. Then you have your own little box to search :).

Hello Commanders,
just a quick statistics-update on the expedition:

Until today we've had
86 signups
46 work-packets have been assigned (of 512 available)
The google-document lists more than 7300 systems as scanned and more than 26.000 systems in the EAFOTS-sector visited by commanders since August (as reported by EDSM).
This is awesome, commanders!!

There have been some speculations, namely in the Formidine-Rift-Thread, that the new incompletely deciphered message from galnet may point to a non-procedural-generated sector below EAFOTS, the Chi Persei sector. We have done some research on our own and came to the conclusion that it is too early to call off the EAFOTS search in favour of Chi Persei. The information we have is too much based on assumptions right now. It is very likely that either the coming 2.2 update or further galnet-posts will give us more revelations that we can base such a decision on.
Please keep up the good work for now.

I agree about not calling off the Eafots search just yet. With the arrival of 2.2 imminent, it does not make sense to start a new sector search when we may find more clues emerging from various sources. In particular, I suspect that there may be an unregistered message beacon (or something similar) in between Tionisla and Cemiess with a relevant clue, so I plan to be in the bubble for the arrival of 2.2 and in the meantime am helping out at the Colonia CG.
.
My apologies for not returning to the Rift this last week: I have been very ill and have not played since 25/26 Sept. Although I am still recouperating, I have updated my laptop's drivers today and my GPU temperature problems are not now as bad as they had been, so I may be able to return to playing more regularly in the near future.

Having just spent 6 weeks in the area of the rift, I well and truly have the skybox burned into my retinas...

Time to go back to the bubble and finish off my triple Elite, then get back into it when 2.2 drops, I think.

I'm quite close to finishing off my little(!?) work packet now - E and D prefixes done, C about 25% done (by CMDRs Bikky and Ian Norton) and B >90% done. I've checked nearly half the A prefixes but found no systems so far so I'll probably finish that off once I've got back to the bubble. I'm going a little space-mad out here now. :)

No aliens found so far.

Yes I mentioned the same in chat but got fairly shot down.

The issue is that we maybe being mislead by the cloud, as it appears to be nebula dust, but it could just be to do with the wrecked ships, and not nebula material at all. If thats the case then it makes locating the system to view this froma bit harder

Looking at this image from Interview 4 https://c2.staticflickr.com/9/8332/29146395065_931d3470b9_c.jpg, we can see the Heart & Soul nebulaes against one another with the Heart in front. That would mean that the video with the "Unknown Alien Entity" (UAE) is taken from the left of the H&S nebulae when looking coreward and quite probably also within the square that the expedition is scanning! A clue perhaps?

If you want to see the soul nebula from the angle show in your screen shot you can do so at PHAA AIN MV-GET B10-8. Unfortunately this a rough location of the true angle and would need to be refined with even further triangulation. I'm currently in this area searching for clues. Edit I would also like to add that the distance is also incorrect.

Aliens all over the place? Three wrecks plus one ruin, but no aliens.

What is the "sky box" and what is it meant to show? Star locations are created during hyper-jump and are not a painted backdrop.
