It is more and more clear that the entire Formidine Rift mystery is a Rock Opera based on the music of Pink Floyd. The references are everywhere.

Kahina doesn't like to be late? The song "Time": "Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time"

...and she keeps repeating "Remember", doesn't she? "Shine on you Crazy Diamond":

"Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun
Shine on you crazy diamond

Just a moment of space madness here, but doesn't "rift" seem like an understatement for the big, black, empty space we refer to as the "Formidine Rift"? Wouldn't it be something like the "Formidine Expanse" or "Formidine Abyss" or "Formidine BetterBringJumponium"? Maybe the "broadly correct area" means we're looking too "big", and should be looking for a "crack, breach, split, fissure"?

Here's a few more links:

'A Saucerful of Secrets' - that would be a 'flying saucer', meaning a spaceship. The Tionisla Cobra fits perfectly.
'Obscured by Clouds' - nebulae are good places to hide things.
'The Dark Side of the Moon' - see previous post relating to Prism.
'Let There Be More Light' - very enlightening.
'Point Me At the Sky' - "Eyes on the skies".
'Welcome to the Machine' - so we're looking for cyborgs.
'Learning to Fly' - exactly what Salome did during Reclamation.
'Astronomy Domine' - clearly a reference to Octavia, also known as 'Domina'

The Oolite Saga, which was a fun story to read, is technically fan fiction, and whilst it's based on the world of elite, it is not lore - what it was, was a nice way to explain why we used to have "aliens" in pervious versions of Elite, but now only have humans.

About last book hints that Rebecca is the old woman from Reclamation, but that is about as much as you're going to be able to take from it, more a an authors nod towards his previous works - an Easter Egg, if you will.

I've figured it out. It's actually the discovery that the whole Galaxy is, in fact, contained within one gigantic head mounted video display... The first version, dating back a thousand years, was called the Oculus Rift...

Nobody seems to be aware at all of what is hoped to be actually discovered upon resolution of this whle mystery. Save for perhaps some relation to the Thargoid-related devastation hinted.
Current searches amongst EAFOTS systems between the Heart & Soul nebula (just over the Rift in a trajectory along the "RR line" would seem to be the best place.

As yet I cannot join in the search (I almost crippled my ship reachign Maia, having just 12 ly jump FSD) but it's an intriguing mystery and I hope to see what happens.

Corection.

Externd the RR line through the EAFOTS sectors that lie directly between H&S nebulae leads to the MYOIDEAU system where a BRIDGE can be found to traverse the rift. I believe this is the intended locaiton to be searched (I know this is where many exploratory endeavours have already commenced and the region has been explored extensively in the immediate vicinity of the bridge.

From my quest to eliminate EAFOTS WE-R E# systems from the list I found this ringed, landing-safe moon. The ring(s) are actually just one ring, but you can fly through the gaps without dropping out of cruise:
