Logging During Combat Punishment [Proposal]

For a lot of people, myself included, griefing is way worse than cheating - the latter being even justifiable against online sociopaths.

Right this guy is like "how dare people combat log from a fight they didn't start, ask for, or instigate! You should totally try to kill my fully engineered corvette with your type-6! You're cheatng me out of valuable stuff here!!!"

All these gankers are obvious. Here I am just making a list...

Some of their mental gymnastics is entertaining though.

No one should want "fair play". Fair play would be everyone always having the same everything.
No, fair play is not about equality it is about sticking to certain rules of play/engagement and being penalised appropriately for breaching them.

Kill/Attack on Sight of non-wanted players is a prime example of not keeping in the spirit of "fair play" especially where the penalties for such activities on the perpetrators do not stack up against the losses for the target. Currently such penalties are barely a slap on the wrist.

The potential Karma system (apparently mentioned by FD) may help to address this but I doubt if it will address the "fair play" issues appropriately. I can see some players perhaps using negative Karma like a badge akin to how some have treated the real world ASBOs in the UK.

I believe he means evenly matched fights.

In which case I will point that many among the most played online games in the world are PvP games that strive quite hard to have evenly matched fights; LoL, DOTA2, Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, Heartstone, CS:GO, etc. Seems like a winning recipe, doesn't it? :p

In that case, if they are after that game play Elite does have a mode dedicated to it - CQC or Elite: Arena. ;)

As for the open world part of the game, it is what it is.

I can't speak for most of these games, but if you legitimately think Heroes of the Storm is even remotely balanced and doesn't at-all survive purely on a "power creep" model, that's grounds for checking you into a clinic for Onionhead addiction....

In my view these games aren't played because they are well-balanced and sturdily designed with an even playing field. They are played because they're quick and easy to get into, with lots of pretty art and graphics and moving things and sound and music and noise, and because most folks just have fun interacting with other folks in general.

You just listed zero games comparable to Elite. Your list is comprised entirely of team-based arena competition, where a finely tuned meta is indeed very important; because there aren't any other aspects that exist to those games. Nobody's playing any of those games for any reason OTHER than online competition. Elite has a broader offering of diversions than that.
