PvP (Open) commanders not welcome on this forum?...

Majority of PvP players have nothing to do with the forum because there are only so many temper tantrums an adult can tolerate before they just shut the door on the noise and walk away.

ED has one of the worst gaming communities I've ever seen. You only find this type of cancer in P2W korean MMO's with an average player age half of what you find around here.

I spend quite a bit of time on this forum, I'm not sure I can think of an example that matches your description. Can you provide a link?

there we go. a concrete example of what the PvE demographic considers the sentiment of open mode. because be honest, you just want to see the explosion, I doubt respect or friendliness has anything to do with it.

Remember that the other guy would always beg to differ and wouldn't be without cause.

Wait, does this mean that we aren't going to be friends?

The public temper tantrums that I've seen in my time here has been glorious.

Eh... I wouldn't say one of the worst. It's definitely one of the more hostile ones out there with a side dish of echo chamber. It's almost like diversity never got introduced as a value or some people are still living in the mid 20th century.

That's kinda sad. Honest to goodness, I have no clue how anyone can follow the mess that is the way reddit works, and I'm very interested in PvP, but have no clue thanks to such attitudes.

what about new players who come to the forums and not Reddit? Seems the PvP'ers are acting Carebears themselves...

Truly sad.

I'll just ignore the part that you ignored despite it still stands ignoring the assumption.

A certain Christopher Hitchens quotation comes to mind:

"That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence."

Which is what I have done with your assumption. It is built on nothing but its own vaporous assertion. The burden of proof rests upon you to support it, not on me to develop an alternative.

Actually, I'm a Taekwondo martial artist ^_^

No wonder you have ability to twist yourself into knots over the subtleties!

Tend to your own house before whining in someone else's.
That can be said of PvEers as well if we all just want to pretend that both groups are represented by the lowest common denominator, i.e. the loud minority.

Fact is both groups are a vast collection of individuals of all kinds of flavours. Dorks will be dorks , decent folks will be decent folks. More than that you can't really ask for, these aren't nations with a form of government to keep 'their citizens' in line. It's just a video game and people don't have to hate each other over it if they don't want to.

Surely I'm not the only one laughing at the idea that the same crowd whose mantra is:

"If you go into open, you accept that unconsentual PvP is a thing!"

... is also saying:

"The forums are too inhospitable! There's too much unconsentual disagreement! Avoid!"

As a PvE guy, all I have to say is:

These are the (open) forums. Unconsentual rebuttal is a thing here. Git gud at verbal sparring against other players.

How's that shoe fitting now that it's on the other foot?

Exactly this.

I'm not sure how you got there - this is a pretty diverse place, as long as you consider that there is a large bias towards people that have enough money, time, and inclination to play computer games. Computerless people without time nor inclination to play games may very well be woefully under-represented.

See, the problem here is that you are probably quoting different people. GF here for example started a thread a while back wanting to encourage players back into Open.

You are drawing lines in the sand needlessly here I think.

It wasn't my intention to draw any kind of lines. I was simply taking the PvP attitude for a spin in reaction to perceived forum hostility.

EDIT: And observing the irony. I have a terminal weakness for observing irony.

Nope, all of the examples imploded because the community would tear itself apart every time a new Korean MMO comes around, and that's every year. If you want to see it in action find the hottest Korean MMO that's in English beta. I stopped tracking them a couple years ago, they're just not fun anymore.

I can however direct you to the Eve forums, where you can see that the supposed dregs of humanity that're the bane of gaming on the internet are absolutely cordial with each other compared to some of the threads around here.

I'm interested in a link from this forum, sorry if I didn't make that clear :)

I think he means that by some people's definition, any time they "lose" a hostile encounter, it is considered "griefing".

And furthermore that PVP is so rare in this game, that it is too small and isolated and 100% avoidable, to become a problem.

In fact, PVP is so hard to come by that people have to create hosted events just to get access to this kind of gameplay. <Ahem>

This is true too - I play exclusively in open, short of planned exploration events.

I've been playing since Beta 2.4, have been ganked twice, once in Alpha, once at a station when launching dumbfires in stations was a thing - and that is on me, because I walked into it with my eyes wide open, and neglected to consider the player was too cold to show up on my scans, thus got ganked as I was landing. I also go to a large chunk of CG's, I play them in open, with ships that are way under-shielded (though I usually rely on speed).

Now, I know it happens, and I've seen the videos, but I'm a flying bait ball at CG's, and haven't had a single ganking, and have been pirated once, and I was so happy to come across a proper pirate, that I just gave him what he wanted (which was 2T of whatever rare I had - out of a hold of about 30). We had a nice chat, wished each other well and were on our respective ways.

That pretty much sums up *all* of my PvP "ganking" experiences in over 1500hrs of gameplay.

Based on some of the posts I see here, one would think that even logging in to open results in an instant re-buy screen.

It was pretty funny ;)

But doubly ironic considering the thread title.

Perhaps - my problem is I tend to be very good at seeing the merits in both sides of most arguments, and what drives me mad is usually the unwillingness of either side to consider the viewpoint of the other.

Oh, go dig around in some of the earlier Open Vs. Solo Vs. Private threadnaughts where people were regularly armchair psycho-analyzing PvP players as homicidal sociopaths that should be institutionalized.

I'm not kidding, and neither were they.
