When can we actually expect some real gameplay content?

I agree with this. On the other hand, it's plain Frontier have no intention of making content. They are content with grind.

Letting players build stations, or build and sell ships, would at least give them real roles and agency in the game.

FDev claimed they didn't want to remake EVE. Then they made an.online, MP game...With zero MP features. When you create a shared universe, people will want to groupupand share experiences. Yet FDev seem to want to actively PREVENT this from happening.

Right now online is pure DRM. Nothing more. No MP functionality. No player bases or markets or hubs. No living sim. Nothing.

At least these suggestions, EVE like as they are, would give players unique goals and roles. It's more than Frontier have done.

Exactly. That's a huge problem.

If Henry Ford had asked his customers what they wanted they would have said "a faster horse." So he built something they didn't even know they wanted.

FDev needs to figure out that trick. Quick.

Yeah, I mean they only created that whole alien ship encounter which isn't content, alien bases with a puzzle that needs to be solve which again isn't grind content, secret out in the formamide rift which again isn't non grind content.

More multi player features will be coming, I'm sure 2.3 will introduce plenty.

If these events had happened shortly after launch everyone would have been much happier. This late in the games life though?

Releasing something less than once a month for a few day's play is not 'releasing content', dear god why do you people have to try and rain on every comment post and topic that in any way attempts to drag the game out from the utter grindfest it's become? Like I said before, it's because you don't WANT the game to change, in case it upsets your small little band of 'hardcore' players.

I can't be the only one here thinking about how much more this game could have been.

No, you are not the only one thinking that.

But looking at the game and the progression it made in two years, I wouldn't hold my breath.
Sure, at some point FD will add aliens and extra ships, extra bases and maybe even a player owned base.
But I think it will never be much more than this.

We can love the game and still think it has flaws that need fixing.

I have lots of stories to tell , and the first contact in elite feels real to me because it happened after I got invested in its universe.

I hope when/if you come back you find the game to your taste.
But remeber that in kickstarter the devs said most content that is promised will be done via DLC and whatnot in order to do it right.

The OP makes some good points , some are allready in the game and some are planned whiles others are a giant ''NO" such as auction house

I love the game even now, but don't agreed where it headed in this season and priorities.
Some things are tied and cant be implemented one without other. All i'm saying space legs alone can bring depth and complexity int a game while being a ship itis hard to interact deeply into a mission. I'm not asking to change the game just to bring some things they mentioned in kickstarter. But overall game idea to stay the same.
We can arguee here but there is no point, time will tell, it's up to FD to what they'll do and it's up to me shall i buy it!
Just don't like those ppl here who acts like they own this game and act toward newcomers like .
Never saw it in any community before at least on this scale.
Thank you for normal reply, and hopefully ingame some day. Bye!

Dear Frontier.. when can we actually expect some real gameplay content?

In Elite Dangerous, everyone is hidden, it's a big but very empty universe and incredible boring, everyone I intruduce to the game, leaves after a week. You have a great piece of foundation that doesn't use it's fullest potential, and it breaks my heart, it really does.

Elite Dangerous, should be a hardcore game, when even the slightest NPC can be really dangerous and not behave so stupid. It should be a living universe that have a sense of danger in it. Im not talking about constant interdictions every second, thats boring and to predictable and too much. The game needs to be alive, a breathing living universe, and the only way to archive that, is to rethink how the game works right now. Everything should matter, and every NPC should act that they are affraid of dying and gives you the illusion that they care, but if you can catch an NPC and kill it, you should be rewarded, and killing an NPC that are not wanted, makes you wanted and that creates a lot of problems if you are in that system.

Animated portraits of NPCs thats randomly generated, actually talking to you, make the game feel alive, I know that you can do it. The NPC part was perfect a way back, exept when everyone boosted more than 500 as soon as they get their shields went down, thats just silly.

More interesting missions, escort missions and so on or maybe get hired by the military to join a war and other players might join the other side, so you can end up fighting other players and NPCs at the same time, if you just look at other games how living those games are, look at even Freelancer from way back, 20 years ago, even that Game is more alive, NPCs talking to each other, and even those aweful badly made stations are alive, you can "walk" to a bar and so on and when landing on planets, there are cities there. In Elite dangerous, you see a hologram screen, thats it... and it's 2017 now.

Solve combat logging issue, make sure players are still in the game even if they logged out, unless they logging out at a station or in their sleeping quarters in the ship (cant go to sleep while in danger).

Multi jumping feature to relax at the "loading screen", able to check stuff in the game, and communicate while in a jump, looking markets and mission board at galnet and so on. Main chats not instanced ones, actually main chats, trading chats and group finding chats, and trading must be added to the game, so players can trade and buying and selling between each other, that will also make the game more alive. Trading is a very important aspect of many games to make them feel more alive.

Also allow people to build stations in space and settlements on planets, also mining facilities on planets, using the % that you already have on planets what they contain, then using prospector drones to shoot them down into the ground by survering the planet until you find a good yield. And constructing a base should not be instant, it will take time, you hire workers to work there, can you imagine how great that would be. Also connecting some kind of mobile service, so you can check progress of your base, and also chatting with people in game, so where ever you go, you have it in your pocket, mobile would only allow simple stuff, checking auctions and making changes to your base or what ever, also outfitting.

Auction houses should be in the game, which we can call Trade hubs, and should be located in just a few systems in the bubble which are connected with each other, allow people to travel easy and more comfortable. Imagine you can sit and be socialize with people and maybe making trade buisness while jumping, and im not talking about, select star, charge frame shift drive, align, jump, refuel, move away from star, and keep doing this, this is not a fun gameplay im talking about planning 50 or more economical jumps in one loading screen, and a progress bar and time until arrival. Each "jump" in the background, adds a set amount of seconds, so if you wana to do 100 jumps in one loading screen, sure you can do that if you want and that will take you about for an example 600 LY, but in this time, you can't really relax, never.

Make sure Elite dangerous have everything you need, you don't want to minize the game to check homepages to check where you can find stuff. There should be more detailed Engineering screen that shows what you need and what you can do at the moment with the materials you have.

There is sooooooooooooooooo much more fun stuff that you can do to improve the game. I can't be the only one here thinking about how much more this game could have been.

No you don´t are the only one. But FD just care about PVP and combat, everything else has been neglected.

:O :O :O

You seriously think that? They do one patch focused on combat balance, something that has been long neglected, and suddenly its all about PvP and combat? While i wish they had focused on something else, as i think balance is the horse that a long time ago bolted the shed, and is now a distant speck on the horizons, I think i can say with 100% confidence, FD do not care just about PvP and combat, and if there is a list of features that are a priority, PvP is waaaay down the list.

My personal theory is, they are delaying 2.3 because networking is still not up to snuff to reliably handle multicrew, or maybe they are still ironing out issues with it, so 2.2.03 was an easy win for them with many (a lot of the changes are nice for PvEers as well... loving the double ammo on my frag canons). We might even see a 2.2.04 yet, depending on how things are going with 2.3.

I think the game you're looking for is EVE

As long as people here defend the grind and say that this is actual content and you have to make your own content, nothing will change.

I'm sure they are laughing their heads off at this thread and the others like it.

Yes. I'm sure they find their lackluster player numbers due to a lack of interest in RNG grind utterly hilarious. I certainly do.

Your Fun <> My Fun
I don't give a defecation about PvP. If PvP went away completely I'd never notice.

Hardcore? Does this even mean anything? Not really, see above.

The Grind - what is this exactly? I've close to 2000 hours in, and never had to "grind" anything. I have had to DO things - haul cargo and passengers, engage other ships in combat, salvage stuff from planets, shut down generators, blow up skimmers - you know, PLAY the game. I've even participated in repetitive back-and-forth trips for certain cargo items to complete a Community Goal or several. But I'd not consider that a grind either. So I'm either doing something completely wrong, or this so-called "grind" is really "I want everything for free, now, delivered to me, because I'm entitled to it, because no one asked me if I wanted to be born, but here I am, and I'm now everyone else's responsibility."

Is there room for more content? More things to do? More ways of doing things we already have? Sure, absolutely. And we'll get there. It just doesn't happen over night.

Have your doubts? By this time tomorrow show my your final, completed Operating System that will completely replace the need for Windows, Linux, or Mac OS, that is completely free, will never require patching or updating, is impervious to viruses or malware, and is completely compatible will all currently available software. I promise, there will be nothing here tomorrow.

This stuff takes time. Give it time, or find something else to occupy yourself.

Hmm.. sounds like a great name for a new movement for this century: Occupy Yourself

Come on, we all know NMS is a "No Man's Sky" troll from way back. The fact he is still in these forums strongly suggest his beloved game didn't live up to his overhyped expectations ;).

The Grind - what is this exactly?

Grind is subjective, so telling people there's no grind in the game is like telling everybody that lamb is the best tasting meat ever and that people who don't like lamb are just wrong. Grind is a term used to define any repetitive action that people find boring/mind numbing. Hence the phrase "back to the grind" when referring to a laborious, non engaging job.

Anyone know if there have been any rumours about when 2.3 is targeted for release?

My guess would be at Pax East for March 10-12, they've already advertised for ambassadors for the event and they'll want something to showcase, maybe even be PS4 release or announcement of its release date?

Couldn't agree more.

As far as "hardcore" goes, for me that will hopefully come from an overhauled C&P system, a Karma system, more dangerous Anarchy & Low Security systems.......and a return of the Beta 4 AI from 2.1 ;). The benefit of that kind of "hardcore" game-play is that it is there for the players who *want* it, whilst those who want to play it safe can stick to a law abiding life in higher security systems ;).

Likewise, I have yet to find this mythical "grind" of which so many people complain. Then again, I'm settled in for the long haul.....so am content with my Cobra & Keelback for the time being :).

Then you need to give Elite the same dev time; EVE's been out the gate for a decade+. Also, EVE sucked the proverbial equine beast of burden when it first started, even if many players think it's cat's mammaries now. It was just simply ungood at the beginning and has had to work to get to its place.
Fair. and i'm good with waiting, as i do enjoy the game currently. as long as it continues to show (perceived) progression and improvements are made, i will continue buying DLC and paint jobs. i love this game and have no problem supporting it.
