THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

If anyone wants grid references to search within (I'm still convinced it's within 1,000km of 20.0000, 12.0000) you can try searching within a box that starts at 12.0000,4.0000 and 28.0000,20.0000. That is 1,000km in every N E S W direction.

Maybe some people can try looking at all the conspicuous landmarks like canyons and craters as a good place to start.

Edit: there something else to note as well.

When I did my initial hard scanning of the surface, I did it in chunks of 5 degrees going up the latitude. The block next door that I did to 20,12 was 20,6 and it didn't have a long loading event. And because it would load in within 1Mm (8 degrees) I'm thinking it could be inbetween 12,12 and 28,20 but I'm checking the whole box just to be sure.

Logging back in to search for Rift delta site... anyone still around? add "REAVER ONE" in game if you want to meet up...

Also, reading back, seems turning terrain textures all the way down, and disabling shadows is the way to go still?
That, and turning gamma all the way up on the dark side...

Does running EDFX make a difference?
Has anyone noticed and EDFX setting to tweak to help?

Yeah i'm just about to log off now, bed time for me. Will continue the slog tomorrow!

Yep, terrain texture's down, disable shadows. And turning gamma all the way up helps significantly on the dark side.
I'm using EDFX myself, that definitely helps on the dark side too, even the light side in my experience. I'm currently using the Deep Space Feeling HIGH END. Makes the desert terrain brighter, so a lot easier to spot the dreaded settlement if we ever find it... starting to think whether they dropped the beacon in GL-Y E2 and possibly jumped to another system now to be honest, but i don't know, we really need a huge mass of more Cmdr's to come and help with the search.

Attention guys

I've realised how I can replicate the long loading time and I am in the process of more accurately defining our search area. I will update you guys on the new grid coordinates as soon as I confirm where the loading thing stops working on the x and z axis.

More news as it develops

I have checked around that whole area since you came to us with the co-ordinates mate. I haven't seen a thing a part from the Cobra that i seen, i also seen an Asp Scout just sitting there as well a few miles from the Cobra. No faction for each ship, both system security. I have screenshots of them both, but i think it was RNGeesus screwing with me :D

I have a feeling the system security ships are to do with the children of raxxla. Didn't they send ships to patrol the rift?

Okay so I've narrowed our search even more.

Being able to replicate the long loading Times I was able to test how far the loading effect went. I tested it on the latitude (20,*12* <<< this one) and it went from 12 all the way to 27.5. Because it spawns within 8 degrees which is 1,000km, it has a total range of 2,000km where someone enters it, it renders in (think of a sphere with the settlement in the middle).

Knowing this, I am able to deduce that the settlement is within *,20 to *,21. At the very most, 19 to 22. Haven't figured out the other axis yet but I'm gonna also guess it's close to 20,20.

Found some occupied space pods on EAFORS GL-Y E2 6, coordinates are 20.2558/12.0510

Logged out then back in and they're gone.

I am going to go back to what i said last year, Fdev wont include extra content until the storyline catches up. They now proved they have the ability to turn stuff on and off in game without bringing the login server down. So yeah those mysterious settlements that havent been discovered yet, possible colony ship, Raxxla and That hostile Alien race might but in the "off" state right now. I really wish elite was subscription based then we could call the shots on how fast each story board progresses. I seriously doubt this will go very this year in terms of content. It hasnt for the previous ones.

*Just throws rep at the screen*

"A single commander could find the 'answer', but it is more likely to be achieved en-mass." This keeps going over and over in my mind... many explorer's are finding it hard just to locate a settlement, let alone the 'answer'. Hmm..

Nothing to report on my search as of yet. I have come away from the Co-Ord's that alarmed a few pilots earlier, could not see a thing.

Anyway... continuing on...

Mmm, the Lurking Evil continues to lurk....

DB: Michael, I see the Rifters are getting close, are you sure we have enough Lurking Evil waiting for them?
MB: hang on a sec DB, I'll go check
Dav, I think we need more Lurking Evil in the Rift. Can you turn it up a bit?
DS: Sure thing Michael. When do you want it added in? We just had a restart this morning to make those ruins smaller & harder to find.
MB: I think they're getting close, probably within 600 LY or so. Better do it today. They'll just think the ruins weren't there & didn't go in properly so we need to redo
DS: OK MB, I've turned up the Evil factor, given them longer fangs and more hair. Even made the drone species look like tax inspectors. Restart in 50 minutes!
MB: Mwuaahahaha! Why do white cats shed so much?
:D:eek:

That explains why I've never successfully returned home from the Rift. Twice I've been out there, both times ended in disaster.

Lurking Evil™, I tell you.

The security ships are just random spawn - they happen everywhere, inside and outside the rift.

They seem especially repetitive since 2.2 landed. They also seem usually to be guarding a poi- either a crashed recon satellite (Intel data package) or wreck site. At least this is my expereience skimmer hunting near Achenar.

Well i found one in Eafots GL-Y E2 6 and it only sited there doing nothing and there were no other POI in the area.

Welome to the 4th Formidine Rift Thread!
Grab a drink, settle down comfortably and pay close attention. We have a lot to get through.

Well done for providing this! Excellent work. I only noticed one detail missing, the names of the ships that formed Salomé's escort to the Daibo system (which were destroyed) were significant. You may wish to add that.

Cheers,

Drew.

While you're here, any thing you can say to help with the monotony of searching GL-Y E2 6?

Conflux PRU AESCS NC-M D7-192 A 3 A - more people are declaring help with search - that is great :)

The way I would recommend, just follow straight lines bearing 90 or 270 (compass) so you follow the same latitude. For the time being I go every 4 degrees so 14 , 18 , 22 etc.

The reason for going horizontal is if we miss it after searching all, then I would switch to following longitudes, if the base is at the bottom of a canyon, you can easily miss it going paralell to it, on the second pass you will go across and probaby you will spot it :)

If you decide to follow longitudes (so vertical), then follow every line on the spreadsheet, they are 5 degrees each, so roughly what you can check from 8-10 km altitude.

I avoid the dark side, I think it is more difficult to spot in the dark, we have pilots from different time zones, so this will not cause any problems.

Please do systematic search, leave all the luck you have for the other one - PRU AESCS TY-J A64-1 3 is a monster, we will need all the luck we can get, still or borrow for this one :)

You can PM me the coordinates you have checked or ask for access to the spredsheet with areas checked so far:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fXnXtyz_EBHYnLgEgaz33pC9rZocmJqNXCvX9ewHRN4/edit?usp=sharing

I marked some geysers in pink, take a break and go enjoy the view, if you find any more of them, let me know and I will add them

Thank you all :)

PS - the spreadsheet - anyone played Quix? ;)
