THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Just ran into Worom at alpha site, and it's confirmed... this theory is a bust. It seams all the gates have the same markings.

EDIT: while we were there we had a good chat about the delta logs, and the ship that suddenly shut down. reminds me of honking the UP's with the discovery scanner, and how it seemed to emit an EMP and temporarily shut-down/disable your ship. Wonder if these beacons contain experimental doo-dads based of recovered alien technology? and that's why the experiments are been done so far out and so secretively?

Sorry to quote myself... but seeing as all the gates are identical wouldnt this mean this theory is bust?

EDIT: Nevermind, although I still think the other theory regarding experiments seems to fit :D

Ok, not really a true believer of the notgates, but is Sol/Achenar/Alioth the incenter of the triangle formed from the Dynasty Exp. regions?

I think you may be correct :/
Darn. When I was watching the interview their interactions on the gate seemed so suspicious, as if they didnt want to talk about it at all for fear of giving something away. I was probably reading into it tho :/ I still find it interesting they are only found in the rift (unless im wrong about that) but that can be explained 100 different ways.

On gates, are we talking about the big entry gates to the settlements, or the smaller ramps? Or both?

One of the smaller ramps I looked at had two arms hanging over the top with appendages, which made it look like a gantry for loading and unloading equipment.

Re. the large entry gates, I have seen such a thing used at Ranger Uranium Mine, where the gate actually had radiation sensors built into it. Truck full of ore stops briefly under the gate. The sensors would measure the radiation content of the ore (and relay it via satellite to a computer somewhere that made a decision) and then a signal would show to tell the driver what to do with it - take it for processing, or to dump it on the tailings heap.

Re. power supply at bases, if you look around some bases do have two or three generators, which are apparently off, and they make sizzling shorted-out electrical noises if you get close to them.

On the larger gates the words contact points are on the side supports, and keep clear towards the top with arrows pointing up, not sure if there is any significance to it.

these are the smaller gates with ramps... i poked around the delta site enrty gate and didnt see anything of interest. There was a symbol on the roof of the tower right beside the enrty gate, and I saw that same symbol here and there on other structures also. kindo fo a yellow circle with a "+" in it. seeing it all over these bases

If ARC = arcsec, all beacons we found are pretty much almost the same distance from Earth. Or they would be the same arcsec from the DEST. (assuming it means destination), because they are so close together (relatively speaking).

To put the notgate gate to bed, if someone could check an outpost/settlement in/near the bubble, see if the gates are the same. Pretty sure they will be. Lists here: https://trello.com/b/aVT2wVsv/listening-posts-surface-installations

Tin Foil Theory Alert: (stolen from exgoaltender) Maybe the beacons that were being distributed by the dynasty expedition were actually UNKNOWN PROBES distributed and created by humans using captured alien tech as an early warning system for alien ships??
This would then be the same as the bubble of probes found around Maia. If someone 30 years ago suspected we were being attacked from there.......dum dum daaaAAAA.

Thinking further, Salome did say "Please get word to the Children of Raxxla, tell them I have new information. The Rift, Hawkin's Gap and the Conflux are connected with strange happenings in the Pleiades. They must find out before..."

The smaller ramps look like they have a cargo injection or intake thing in the centre of it so I guess it might have something to do with unloading or loading vehicles as well as repair.

As for the big gates, to counter that argument (which sounds plausible) why are tire tracks pretty much starting at the gate itself and not after it?

My theory is that the formidine rift is exactly what it is: a rift. A disturbance in space-time. And these bases must be tapping into the energy and utilising wormholes.

Perhaps. I mean, it doesn't sound TOO farfetched to me. This IS the 3300s after all.

PFM appears on several bits of equipment, including some tanks with hoses coming out of them. I suspect that it means "pre-fabricated module" or perhaps "portable field module". But who knows.

This all smacks of bad game design. When brute force finds things before AND after anyone can figure anything out... there is an issue at the base of the quest. In this case no one at all can find any link to anything that points to anything else. I love Elite but holy moly. Let's back up and find a less obscure way of giving clues.

not stolen, but freely given Zach! Least I could do for keeping the monstrosity of a front page nice and tamed! The theory does seem to fit with all the secrecy, and since the 3 regions surround the bubble, kind of like a sensor net, fits with early warning system too

So we have 3 more bubbles to find - and what they are there to detect.....
(if that theory is correct)

We have stuff to find beyond all these Rally Points/Outposts anyway, whichever theory you believe is out there.

Now that you mention it, the last UA I picked up in space was marked as "stolen" cargo in my hold. Stolen from who, I'd love to know.

This stinks of INRA experiments gone bad... Putting this tech so far out into unknown space without fully understanding it obviously had unforeseen consequences, and perhaps, awoke something up in the black

*queue foreboding music*

Well, at least this theory can be tested - if someone would be so kind as to fly 140 LY out and take a look for UAs. I'm at work *sigh*.

I am planning to do a slow survey of the Hawking's system looking for "artifacts" around each planet, UP style.

So, thinking in terms of breadcrumbs, in a manner that I hope will inspire lateral thought:

1) The mystery started with the CG that lead to these three zones (Fromidine, Conflux, Hawking's).

2) Those zones led to the discovery of unregistered beacons, indicating the planetary location of mission rally points.

3) The mystery ends (for now) with the discovery of these bases and the information those bases provide. (Note, it's entirely possible that all the logs will actually lead to something even bigger, but we're not there yet).

4) We've been told that we missed a step by brute forcing the discovery of this end point.

Assuming I haven't missed anything, then that means we missed something between 2) and 3). But where could that be?

Theories so far:

1) the unregistered beacons have more information than we first assumed (Embedded in the sound? Physically on the beacon?)

2) the planetary coordinate are found separately from another source. If so, where?

2.1) One theory is that they could be hidden as GalNet articles, most likely in a local system. But which one? So far contenders listed are:
Tionisla
Persephone
Avalon (Persephone Station)
Ishtar (Inanna / Seven Veils)
Ereshkigal (Babylonian equivalent of Persephone)
Prism
Sol
Wherever Salome was going to be locked up

2.2) But where else could the co-ordinates be found besides GalNet? Is there any other means of consistant reliable information being given to players?

The comms beacons end their broadcast with 'mode standby' or something like that. Maybe it just means they are shutting down. Or maybe it means they are *in* standby mode and can be woken up, somehow?

I keep thinking back to a comment Drew made quite some time ago, about how having access to the Sol system could be helpful. We've never actually figured out what that meant, have we? Maybe our missing step is somewhere in the Sol system, possibly with the new outer planets that were added some time ago. I just can't imagine what could be there to find though, I know I've been to all of those new planets.

There's still some unresolved mysteries on the Threadnaught. I'm thinking primarily of the Jupiter/Lave/Eravate number beacon that leads to that system map. I don't think that's been solved yet.

There were also hints from Drew that the ships used to attack Salome's prison convoy were notable (Greek nymphs), as were the 7 Sisters and 7 Veils. With the hyperdictions being tied not only to Dynasty but the 7 Sisters (Pleiades, also Greek nymphs) maybe there's something out there that we're missing. Maybe should add Maia and Merope to the Galnet systems too.
