THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Did you watch the movie 'The Martian'?
She spent 2 weeks in an abandoned base, filled with equipment. What's the betting she spent some of that time retrofitting her Sidey cargo space to fuel tanks?

- - - Updated - - -

You'd think maybe they'd have realized how inefficient the technique is, wouldn't you?

Yes, but then they think we are going to keep on visually searching huge planetary surface areas to find 1-pixel clues or ppoi.

So what Drew was saying is that we've just spent two weeks brute forcing the search for the bases and complaining that we don't have in-game tools for it, when there were clues to be found that could have led us straight there in the first place?

...

I am lost for words. How did we miss those clues? If they were in local Gal-hey! Did anyone check local Galnet for Reorte and Riedquat? Any local news containing clues to this expedition would surely have come from there? Either that or the Children of Raxxla's home system, as the CG basically started from there

I might have missed that part of the stream where Drew was talking about clues for the Formidine Settlements, but I heard the part about the Alien Ruins. I'm sure he said "Because the ruins were found way earlier than expected, Frontier didn't get the chance to release the clues needed to help us find these things." So as I understood it, it's not that we missed the clues, but rather that Frontier never actually released the clues...

That said I didn't see the entire steam, and I may have misunderstood what I did hear.

Thats disconcerting... I hope they either have since released them, or do release them soon. They could prove useful in finding the other ruins sites.

After searching for those with one account, and searching for the Rift bases with another account, I'm pretty sick of watching planet surfaces fly past the window. Going a little [wacko]

4) We've been told that we missed a step by brute forcing the discovery of this end point.

Where did we hear about this?

I'm a bit confused now as well.

I didn't hear it all but I did hear where they were talking about the alien ruins and how they were discovered. If the first had been found properly, instead of out of sequence via the trailer, it would've told how to find the rest.

There is an abandoned base in or near the bubble from last year (my memory fades) which has the same 'furniture' as the rift bases.

Wrt the missing clues. Has someone tried to send specific words to the beacons via local chat? Something in latin and/or exodus related.

So Drew is trying once again to get us to look at the mythological underpinnings of the story.
It won't work Drew, by this time tomorrow we'll be back to following pictures in the skybox ;)

...

I like what he is doing, but sadly, I have zero knowledge about the various mythologies. And truth be told, I'm more interested in learning a new languages than spending that same time learning about ancient mytholigies - don't get me wrong, it's fascinating, but limited time, and all that...

Z...

It's interesting that the Delta logs are by a woman.

From what I can remember, there are two original clues from Elite: Reclamation about the Rift. One comes from some old guy, and one comes from Salome/Kahina/old woman (I've always assumed they're all the same person - maybe I'm wrong?).

It would make sense that these two were the survivors of this expedition hinted at in the logs.

Do not forget REORTE and RIEDQUAT in the list, possible starting points of the expedition

All the clues came from the same source: The Old Woman. First clue was given to Kahina when she met the woman at a hospital. The second clue was in a holofac recording that Kahina accessed in the book's epilogue.

May I kindly refer you to my previous post linking these thoughts?
Unfortunately it's in the previous thread and I'm on mobile, but maybe a kind soul could link to it.
In short, I, too, believe there is that connection and it's worth checking out.

After reading about and being reminded of the Raan Corsen connection I decided to head over to Alioth to see if there were any local articles that got missed that might be of some help. I did find one that is very suspect in the Alioth Herald, from Oct 26th by a Commander Barracuda about some escape pods that were found in the rift and are being returned to the Alioth system on a ship named the "Shining Beacon". Could be just a player submitted article or maybe a planted clue since it came out just prior to the CG, and that ship name!?! Anyway, here are the screenshots.

I think we have to consider that the old woman's clues are much older than the Dynasty expedition and the Exodus project.

She mentioned GalCop as part of the cover up. There was no GalCop in the 3270s. The shut down probably 100 years earlier.

The nasty stuff has been out here for a long time. The expedition, 30 years ago ran into it.

I made an attempt myself to link everything together on the previous page here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/324796-THE-FORMIDINE-RIFT-MYSTERY-(Part-4)?p=5070494&viewfull=1#post5070494

I'm very curious to see what these missing clues are and if my overarching theory is even remotely close :D

I remember MB posted in the threadnaught that they had re-tasked the clue mechanism for something else... don't think we've seen or found that yet.

As a n00b to the forum, I've been following this Formidine Mystery from the start. There are several initial points that I don't think should be lost when trying to uncover this mystery

1) Uncovering the mystery is not rank or permit locked
2) Engineers aren't required
3) It's been there since the start
4) Horizons is not required

These are the things that keep coming back to me anyway.
satisfying my own points
2) - Drews own Cobra has a Jump range of ~25ly, if he has flown there/seen 'it' for himself, then could this indicate a minimum jump distance?
4) - The planetside side settlements in the Formidine area, for me, may not be part of this mystery. Horizons is not required, so how would you land on a planet/carry on solving -the mystery-.

i'm just currently doing some exploring in the Wredguia sector doing some exploring then going back and beefing up my own cobra, before heading out to the rift.

I think these bases may help but you can still solve the mystery without them and hence Horizons.

@Jorki Rasalas

so 'after I lost' ... [sadness] ... 'had time to spare'.
Could well be a loss of someone. Could easily be loss of job. Loss of mind. Loss of motivation/inspiration... I lean towards the idea of the loss of someone, but I would prefer that it was not taken as fact as we simply don't know. We are inferring.

@Zach
"Welcome to Milton Keynes" - I think you have cracked it. That fits with the descent to hell :)

This is my point, other than seeing the base from orbit, you wouldn't be able to get down to ground level. so anything useful within the settlement is surely pointless to someone without horizons.
