But I do think FD should be providing answers on why they've scaled things back.
Another opportunity is more fun with the brand new commander creator tool.

FDev are producing 5 major patches for season 2, one of those patches is "commanders". And one of the features of commanders is multi-crew.
So, whilst it would be "cool" to add all the features required for your idea, the short answer is that FDev do not have the time or money to do it. And being honest, I think the majority of players would much prefer other major features be developed first...
[there would also be a ton of logical problems - if you log in and that captain isn't online? or if the captain decides to quit playing Elite? etc]
5-10 minutes TOPS!
Helm should be shared, the whole ship should be shared across the crew. There should be two types of multicrew: limited and full access. You can choose how you will treat your crew members.
Even if you are in deep space you should be able to depart from multicrew ship by escaping in pod or something, then you are recovered, or your ship may follow you as "ghost ship" - it is hidden, cloaked or whatever. This will be much more better solution that that simple, barren, shallow concept described in dev update.

Perhaps FD should just tell everyone all of what's coming in one go?
In my opinion, this whole practice of drip-feeding information is just daft. Makes no sense.
I think there's enough implied in the game already that we probably don't need the extra fluff. It would be nice, especially if all the gaps were covered, but how likely is that at this stage?
Helm sharing and types of access is interesting, I'd be interesting in hearing more about how that would work. Something like how your NPC Crewmember can control your ship while you be an Ace in the SLF?
Make a good game, Brett, and you will calm all these nerves. Fact is, you are a slave to FD run by DB - who has NO concept of gameplay beyond his personal obsession to be an astrophysicist.
I'm actually considering just going with whatever initializes and not adjusting it. Suppose it depends on how it initializes.
If it's something like:

Then yea, at least 5 minutes.
As much as I'm a bit disappointed that multicrew seems to be limited to "just" canonical combat roles, I must tell I'm incredibly excited about the addition. Among the couple of friends and colleagues who play Elite, we'll get a hell of a lot of mileage out of it! The instant joyining and figher manning combined with the duplication of bounties is bound to have us happily PvE-ing many evenings and everybody will get something out of it. The more dedicated players with the bigger ships get to play those, the newer ones can fool around in the fighters and it's not going to eat into each others profits like bounty hunting in a wing.
The absolute best thing is the instant joyning to the host ship. Finally not half the evening play time will be spend staring at loading screens by some 3-4 people (that's easily an hour of combined life time wasted) , but by blowing those NPCs up (or vice versa). If the touted new camera system is finally also competent (I'm looking at you, debug camera!), we may even get great screenshots out of it.
This thread
- one person complains about imbalance for ships with multiple crew vs those without (while ignoring wings exist)
- another complains that it's unfair large ships are effectively getting a power boost (ignoring they have multiple players onboard and again pretending wings don't exist)
- another wants npc crew (that will give large ships manned by a single player a power boost)
- another wants people to have to meet to do multicrew
- another complains no-one will use multicrew (while others suggest barriers to multicrew to stop people using it)
- another complains this feature "is not for them" implying they will leave
- another says the whole feature is a waste of development time
- another wants a much more complex solution that would increase development time
- and others have nothing good to say about anything ever
Well said, I feel exactly the same. The immersionists have had their way far to many times.. it's about time common sense for gameplay takes the front seat.. it's a damn game.. not everything needs an explanation.
would allow me to go exploring when I'm alone, but quickly join the guys for bounty hunting when they're around.
The Expanse
Man I love The Expanse, it's getting good!
I've recently had a rather bonkers-mad, crazy - potentially revolutionary - idea.
I will try out the new feature(s). If I enjoy them, I will use them. If I don't enjoy them, I won't use them.
