Release EDSM - Elite Dangerous Star Map

Hi, do planets/data entered in EDDB manually (via ROSS) get propagated into EDSM? I entered all the planet info for the Ki system months ago but they do not appear on EDSM.

AFAIK celestial body information is propagated from EDDN. If EDDB pushes planetary data to EDDN, it will probably land in EDSM, too. Actually there is nothing sucking planetary data from EDDB and push it to EDSM. Maybe worth a thought...

Can anyone tell me why the EDSM api returns coordinates with incorrect labels?

The coordinate order is same as in game, however the order is xzy in the game galaxy map.
Up/down moves the middle z value.
From what I have seen the api incorrectly labels them as xyz.

That is the first time I heard that !

XYZ are just arbitrary labels. XY for the plane of the page and Z as the one perpendicular to the surface is a convention that is often used but when you're talking about a 3D space then which you pick as the XY plane is arbitrary (even if would have been nice for FDev to pick the same one as the sensible one to default galmap views to...).

So they're not really incorrect.

Yes I understand, not incorrect. But I guess you could say they differ.

Many thanks.

Is it possible to list and sort systems by class of star and distance from a reference system?

Thx.

Retrieving systems beyond about 500-1000ly from a reference system is going to be expensive, as each ring further out will need to scan a larger portion of the coordinate index / systems table to find all of the stars in that ring.

If by star class you mean stellar classification of the main and/or secondary stars, this will only be possible for systems where somebody has either manually entered the star class before 2.2, or has scanned the main star using a Detailed Surface Scanner since 2.2 and sent the resulting journal entry to EDDN

If by star class you mean the size class (i.e. the 'd' in 'Omega Sector EL-Y d60'), I don't think EDSM is currently aware of this.

If it would mean a faster lookup, I'm sure querying for a cube rather than a sphere would be acceptable. That way it could just be a "between" clause on x, y and z.

A sphere or sphere-shell search would be optimized to a cube or cube-shell search refined by a sphere or sphere-shell search.

Unless EDSM indexes the coordinates index by region or uses some sort of octree, k-d tree, r-tree, or some other spatial index, if the coordinates index is indexed by e.g. (Z, X, Y), then searching for all systems in a cube will require the database engine to scan all rows between zmin and zmax.

This is not available at the EDSM website ATM. The SQL behind that won't be too difficult, anyway. Maybe you should ask Anthor nicely to implement it? ;)

In the API there is a function to request systems within a sphere or cube centered at a given system or coordinates, so you can write a little script or program to collect the systems' names and then check for known celestial bodies inside the systems.

I'm currently out exploring and when I check the coordinate details of star systems that I've passed through it shows that the coordinates don't match:

Coordinates mismatch with stored coordinates: 548.875 / -361.375 / -3843.6875

An automated report has been sent to administrators for investigation.

I'm using EDDiscovery, so why are the errors being shown?

Would be easier to check with the current system name ;)

I found it, it only means that the script cannot check the coordinates against 0 distances, nothing to worry about ^^
I might update it to take account of the temp coordinates send by flight logs, but it not actually the case, plus I won't spend much time on those old modules that will surely be removed at some point!

greetings!

i recently got back into Elite Dangerous and found out about edsm. and must say it's one of the coolest things this community put together. awesome job.
i'm still trying to get my head around all the new things to learn and try out and i got a few questions if you don't mind.

i read a little bit about programs to use to automatically sync up your data with edsm. seems like edmc (elite dangerous market connector) and eddiscovery are the prominent ones. so i tried both of them (well i used edmc before but not in conjunction with edsm).

EDMC seems quite straightforward. You put in your api key and you're are good to go it seems. EDDiscovery on the other seems like a very, very poweful little peace of software but it confuses the hell out of me (maybe it's just me, i don't know). and one thing i particular wonder about is this point about EDDiscovery i found in your FAQ on your site. It says that EDDiscovery doesn't support "Send flight logs with current ship". I'm not sure what exactly that means. could someone try to explain that one to me?

i guess in the end i like to figure out which of the two programs i want to use. and if i'm missing out on something important by using either one. my current goal is to join one of the expeditions people organize on EDSM just because it sounds like an awesome time. i guess both programs would do the job tracking my progress on expeditions?
sorry but it's just all a bit confusing :).

It says that EDDiscovery doesn't support "Send flight logs with current ship".
Both EDMC and EDDiscovery can send your flight logs - i.e. Systems jumped to and when - to EDSM.
EDMC also sends your ship, so you can see what ship you used for each jump, and lets EDSM keep a record of your current fleet and ship load outs.

Hi all is it possible that the link to reset the password does not work? I tried several times yesterday and to day to get a reset password link but I do not recieve an email. checked in spamfolder, inbox, junkmail and also on my email server but no email.

Anyway, thx for making this site so great.
Keep up the good work.

Whilst using TCE I have found a few systems that don't exist within the game. The Data used for TCE was from a dump from EDSM (I belive) I have checked on EDSM site and have found 3 discrepancies:

CRUCIS SECTOR YE-A D142 [when searched for in game you're directed to >] PUPPIS SECTOR DL-Y D142

Neither of these two can be found within the game, but are in EDSM
COL 173 SECTOR NL-L A28-5
UCAC3 70-2386
