What's the most pirate-y ship in Elite?

Imperial Clipper. Its big enough to mass lock ships, it goes faster than almost every single ship in the game, and it has enough space inside to have everything you need to start pirating.

What do you think it is?
Needless to say I vote the Cobra Mk III.
But to be fair, it's a serious pirate boat.

Have never tried pirating but have always thought that, given its mass the FDL would make a great pirate vessel. Massive enough to interdict anything Anaconda-sized or smaller, OK cargo cap and good weps, enough modules . . . ?

I do very well in my Clipper thank you. Not much can out run me and has enough weapon punch to do what i need. has the speed to run if needed.

Clipper for me, and i have tried most of the others. Python is fantastic (On Paper), but even i can outrun a python!!!

Cobra is an icon to ED but not as a pirate ship.

I feel there are two "real" answers to this....the Python, to players that used it back before the speed nerf as the terror to all traders, and the iClipper - which is the quintessential pirate ship at present.

In fact despite its known ability as an excellent miner, it is atypically generated only as a pirate in places such as a RES. Never a miner. Never a miner's bodyguard. If you find a non-wanted iClipper in a RES, may as well be a bug.

Any ship can pirate, but it doesn't make it a pirate-y ship. Anything that travels slow just isn't a pirate ship...sorry, not sorry ;)

How about a Corvette? I've been thinking of giving it a try as a pirate ship.

Speed is ok with g5 dirty drives. Everything else seems fine...

I'll see your Cobra Mk3 and raise you a Cobra Mk4.

More internals, you need lots of internals to be an effective pirate, and stylistically, its very similar.
I've never flown one, but I've heard a lot of complaints about it's speed.
wouldn't a mk IV be too slow for pirating?

My laden T6 does like, 500+. Get your MK IV outta here lmao.

That poor Cobra needs a buff before it can be good at anything. I've never understood why it handles worse than a T7, and is almost just as slow.

For SnG's I've used an orca just to try...before engineers I had to get really creative with power management, but now...no worries. C3 Fixed burst and 2 c2 rails for thruster sniping. She's fast, has got the cargo space, looks great in black, and no one expects the Porca...had a few runners find out the hard way and went to the black screen...just don't linger in front of a heavily missile loaded Annie. That mistake got me a a brand new Porca.

Clipper...speed, agility, mass lock, internals, cargo space, damage output, and look damn good doing it!

Whoa nelly, hold yer horses!

Most of my credits have come from (npc) piracy, and in short order to boot.

For a low end pirate ship, hop in a Viper Mk.IV, it's got the internals for cargo, hatch breakers, and collectors, plus some speed and some tanky-ness. A cobra Mk.IV is a tad better for the job if you can get used to her sluggishness. The "Slow-bra" will net you about 32 tons of loot (at 51,000cr/ton or 1.6 million) per full haul. If you're good, you can get that in 15-20 minutes.

Not the "best" money maker, but definitely the most enjoyable in my books.

An Asp X, is basically like a bigger (64t of cargo) faster version of the cobra Mk.IV, batten down the hatches and hold onto yer boot straps! Profit ho!

From there, you "could" get into a python, I guess. But now you're just getting rediculous! Best to steal some poor saps orca, that's what I'd do. It's fast. Like awesomely fast, for a pirate ship. The one I've got holds 96 tons of goodies, plus all the fixins and tools you'll need. Engineer it and it's amazing! You'll be bathing in credits once you've got the skills mastered.

Just remember, choose your targets wisely. Keel back and up is where the money is at, so long as they've got mining lasers on board. Just be wary of mining pythons and T9s. They can be pirate-bane unless you're a really good fighter. (Seriously, you're in a ship setup for smash and grab against soft targets, if yer gonna fight, be prepared to limp home. )

What the heck are you stealing that sells for 51,000 credits per ton? That's more than I can remember ever seeing even rares sell for.

It's possible in any ship, but some are better suited than others. In an FDL you lack cargo space & room for limpet control modules. For Bounty Hunting (or just general Pew Pew) it's excellent.

You don't rob a bank with a supercar. Sure you'll make a quick getaway but where does your swag go?

low temp diamonds would be my guess.

Yeah literally only them, if you find someone with the stones large enough and the patience long enough to mine a full cargo load of LTD's, haul them in open and give them up without logging, especially if your lucky enough to chain people like this constantly, maybe then his numbers are accurate :p.
