Show Us Your Setup

Hi everyone,

Please find below the specs of my PCs that I will be using to play Elite Dangerous. I wish I could afford to upgrade both of these low to mid-range PCs to more powerful CPUs and add another GPU to each (for SLI) but funds are tight right now.:)

I just built this PC for ED having been an Apple convert for the last 10 years or so. I was going to get an 27" iMac but decided to split funds between a gaming PC and a Mac Mini for Lightroom, Logic and software development and general computing.

So this is an i5 OCd to 4.4GHz, 16GB RAM, 250GB SSD, 750W modular PSU, GTX760 4GB, in a Corsair case, 27" Iiyama IPS display (shared with Mac Mini), Saitek X55 HOTAS and Combat Pedals and Oculus Rift DK2 on order.

I've been relegated to the loft as we're trying to sell the house and apparently 2 computers and sprawling cables is not a suitable table decoration for a dining room table in the conservatory. Still it's cosy up there and I can spread out.

Operating System- Windows 8.1 64-bit

CPU- Intel Core i5 3570k @ 3.8 GHz

RAM- PNY 16 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 532MHz (7-7-7-20)

Motherboard- ASRock H61M-HVS

Graphics- XFX R9 290

Storage-931GB Seagate
111GB Samsung SSD

Peripherals- Logitech 3D Extreme Pro, Razer Nostromo, Kensington track ball (free look), CM Storm Xornet.

...now i am wanting to hook my throttle up to a midi controller. A Quneo would be amazing for such things.

Update:

I dropped the GTX 770 into the Elite box last night and... holy moley - that sucker's super smooth.

I had been running on "high" settings on my integrated Intel 4600 graphics, and even then was wowed by the experience of playing the game. Last night I thought I'd have a quick look at the frame rate in that mode so that I could compare it with the 770 afterwards.

The long and the short of it is that it went from ~7-10 fps on the 4600 to ~80 fps on the 770. But not only that, the quality of the graphics are now just awesome, and details I had been missing before are now visible. Also, things like entering and exiting hyperspace and accessing the station systems happen much faster now too.

So thanks to everyone shouting out for the GTX 770 - it has been a very pleasing upgrade so far!

I've got pretty much the same iMac as you, except I have the GTX 775M 2GB
I bootcamp into Win 7 ultimate 64bit and ED is running very well indeed, I have no complaints at all.

If you want to be part of the Beta, then I can recommend bootcamp.
When the game is released for native OSX, then I'll move away from winders.

Edit: I moved away from Windows many years ago and arrived at OSX via various Linux distros. But, I have to say that I do like Windows 7. (But then again, maybe that's because it's ONLY running ED and AVG.)

Ugggg.

Finally succumbed and am currently bootcamping the Mac to run Windows 7 Home 64bit. You lot are having too much fun and I can't be bothered to wait till early 2015 for the native mac version :)
