Introduce Systems where Mods are forbidden!

Hello everyone,

I am part of a PVP focused clan. PVE in ED was never something, that I was having a lot of fun with.
However, cycling through the galaxy with my friends (or alone) searching for an exciting PVP encounter was always great fun.

But since the Engineers update, that has changed a lot.
Not enough, that you are now doomed to do a whole lot of PVE content to stay competetive - even when you do, you have no clue why you won or lost a fight, becuase you have no clue, what exact mod-layout your opponent was using. Our clan is now wasting a whole lot of time grinding for some mod . All that time we would have used for fun journeys through the galaxy together, in the good old days.

But I do understand, that the whole engineering part may be fun for a lot of people.
So I suppose the following:
Introduce one or several systems, that you can only enter, with ships that do not use a single modded component.
Forbid ship transfers within those systems.
Create a meaningful story around that.
This alone would give clans like mine some fun back, that made ED so great before the holy grind for mods.

What would you guys think about that?
Is there any major drawback I did not consider?

This sounds like a very similar problem to what Mobius solves. Create a group where everyone agrees to not use mods (and anyone found using them gets kicked out), then advertise it and allow anyone to join, and you should be able to play the way you want to, now not Soon(tm). Mobius has shown that ED can handle very large groups.

I don't quite get the hate over mods. Sure, some of them are a bit overzealous in their thread-locking behaviour, but overall, they're not that bad.

I can very much testify that their thread-locking skills have been particularly weak as of late...

This would be somehow equally much work as grinding the mods.
The check for the rules alone, would be pain in the . How can you even check, that someone did not mod their shields for example?

It's called CQC and you avoid it like the plague.

We can't use all ships in CQC.
We can't do proper RP in CQC.
We don't want short-term pew pew fun. We want at least one lasting system, with a story behind it and stations and missions - but only without mods.
We want the fights to feel more meaningful than in CQC.

Damn, I thought this thread was about over zealous moderators again. Lol
I bring popcorn, and even had the LeForge In Before The Lock gif ready.

A dedicated PvP no-mod mode?
Yeah, just create a private group like Mobius, and moderate it yourselfs.
It would help lots of we could actually see if a ship was modded though. Lol

Same as mobius does, present video evidence to whoever manages the user list. If you can't tell whether someone is using mods, then clearly they're not affecting you.

Well, do you want this soon or Soon(tm)?

Never liked the idea of this but I think it's starting to become important.

It's bizarre but I kind of like the idea of a dedicated system or arena in the system where for whatever reason modded modules are shut down and unusable. FSD can obviously be left out of it and who knows what to do about the PP, but as whacky and handwavium it is, I lke the idea.

Not a mode - just a single solar system.

I want to be sure, that my opponent does not use any mods. So you suppose to let me upload any fight of any opponent, with a look in his submodules? Come on.

I would still be happy to see a feature like this sometime this year. Me and many others would come back regularly to ED, if something like this would exist.
Currently, there is a PVP league organized by some PVP enthusiastic clans. This goes in a similiar direction - but with so much work required.
A non-Mod Solar system would be for your casual PVP fun, for everyone who does not want or does not have the time to farm modifications.

When I read the OP, I'm afraid all I take away from it is "I used to win but now I don't so I want the game changing so I can win again".

You know if you aren't a fan of PvP, why make complaints about PvP suggestions?

I win most of my PvP engagements but I have a distinct dislike for engineers. The main reason being I am a lover of loadout experiments and now it takes me a week to try a new loadout, which enemies can still gain an advantage over, by rolling their mods an inordinate number of times.

What next, start complaining because someone uses PP weapons and you don't?

To start restricting game content is a silly suggestion, engineering was an attempt to add some much needed build diversity. Engineering is part of the game and it is available to everyone if you are prepared to put a little effort in, no different than grinding credits.

As a pvp’er it should be obvious which mods are worthwhile and which are not, many are not. The same is true of the experimental effects. Once you are familiar with engineering mods it is not that hard to figure out what an opponent is probably engineered for if you take a quick gander at the sub target list. There are also a set of icons to show effects on your ship and your targets ship under the relevant ship schematic on the UI; while some will only show on your targets ship it is still worthwhile knowing what they are.

If you cba engineering your ships and putting the effort in to work out which are viable and which are not, set up a private group, set some ground rules, and only invite folks you trust.

I really like this idea. Don't understand the hate from non-PvPers.

Some of us don't want RNG rock-paper-scissors combat. Just have 1 system (maybe CQC world?) where when on jumping in, your mods are disabled. Doesn't hurt every other 399,999,999,999 systems in the galaxy

This also was one of my main motivations. Its not that I have something against more diversity, or something against being killed a hundred times in a row. But I like the idea of having a fair playground where everyone can take part fighting each other, and experimenting with different loadouts without the need to grind materials, visit engineers, hoping for good rolls etc. pp.

Power Play weapons were no where near as strong as modded components - hence I am not complaining about them. You could simply ignore them and still play on a competetive level.

True for everyone who has the time and love that kind of gameplay. And I don't see, how one (!) non-mod solar system would affect those players.

As mentioned early, this would mean to much work for the casual PVP lovers I want to address with that feature.
Also, I love to meet new commanders by having a nice fight. And I know way too less players. And most of those I know, want to fly open only.
