Introduce Systems where Mods are forbidden!

+rep goes to 2nd post in this thread. If OP have issue with potential ganking threat (engineered pvpers grief those willing pvp with non-engineered ships), then create (and propagate) special private-group with given internal rules makes much more sense. Next to this fdevs do not need introduce any new restriction mechanism (and solve issues which it could bring) because what they provided already is sufficient enough.

There have also been some proposals for an ingame-arena mode where commanders could register theire modded or unmodded ships for pvp combat with a ruleset. Registred ships would show theire complete fitting and this fitting should then be fixed for the next combat ...

simply put: a CQC mode for ingame ships - that would be a feature for the pvp crowd, wouldn't it?

Excellent idea. With a story behind it will fill up quickly with PvP oriented players. And to disable the mods could be probably manageable from Frontier. Will be like CQC withiut the ship restrictions.+1 Rep

Hello everyone,

I am part of a PVP focused clan. PVE in ED was never something, that I was having a lot of fun with.
However, cycling through the galaxy with my friends (or alone) searching for an exciting PVP encounter was always great fun.

But since the Engineers update, that has changed a lot.
Not enough, that you are now doomed to do a whole lot of PVE content to stay competetive - even when you do, you have no clue why you won or lost a fight, becuase you have no clue, what exact mod-layout your opponent was using. Our clan is now wasting a whole lot of time grinding for some mod . All that time we would have used for fun journeys through the galaxy together, in the good old days.

But I do understand, that the whole engineering part may be fun for a lot of people.
So I suppose the following:
Introduce one or several systems, that you can only enter, with ships that do not use a single modded component.
Forbid ship transfers within those systems.
Create a meaningful story around that.
This alone would give clans like mine some fun back, that made ED so great before the holy grind for mods.

What would you guys think about that?
Is there any major drawback I did not consider?

An excellent idea, i would actually start spending money on ED again if this were possible and i would join and likely play exclusively in a group that banned engineers mods.

There is no way to make sure everyone follow the rules.
And I don't want only to fight commanders I know and I trust.
For example I want to meet new players during a non-modded spontaneous fight. Of course I can't trust players, I don't know.

Just have 1 system (maybe CQC world?) where when on jumping in, your mods are disabled.

Disabling the mods would also be a clean solution.
However, creating a convincing story around that automatic disabling would be a bit harder.

Sorry but your suggestions won't happen for now. There has always been a gap between PvP in Open play and PvE in Group/Solo. PvP often won out thus PvE players had to deal with many nerfs to their style of game play. The Engineers actually fixed that as PvE can upgrade their ships for their needs and PvP has access to awesome weapons with their style of play. The negative is one will have to seriously upgrade their ship to be competitive in Open. The option is also with Groups from no combat to intense wing/jousting sessions covering the play styles of many. It really works out for everyone except those wanting to change the game per their own needs versus looking at all the opportunities available. Just one opinion. :)

So when it's PvP players who wish to completely exclude the possibility of encountering something, private groups suddenly aren't good enough and Frontier has to provide an environment which enforces it? This thread owes me a new irony meter.

Which is why I don't called "remove the mods from the game", but "give us only one system without mods".
I don't see how this would "change the game". It would just be an option for all those, who like the idea. Everyone else could just ignore that system.

If there was an option to create a private group with a checkbox like "don't allow mods" I would definitely go for it.
But it is simply not possible to check if everyone is following the rules.
Recording a video of someone who fights other players in Mobius is a 1000 times easier.

Let me get this straight.

A TINY group of PVP players want to change the game to allow them to play in the way they deem to be more fun?

You can have that when I get a PVP Flag option.

This sounds like a very similar problem to what Mobius solves. Create a group where everyone agrees to not use mods (and anyone found using them gets kicked out), then advertise it and allow anyone to join, and you should be able to play the way you want to, now not Soon(tm). Mobius has shown that ED can handle very large groups.

Ya, create another private group where more people are taken away from open as an easy option to dealing with the problems within the game...

Why wouldnt their be a few systems where this is the case... some mad cult or something.... maybe you even need a permit.

A few people that absolutely don't constitute the entire PvP player base are having a discussion about giving us somewhere specific we can go for an activity, on the understanding it's too niche and unacceptable to try and force on the rest of the galaxy.

Unlike you and your "disengages from reality" flag where you can optionally become untouchable anywhere you want.

Complaint dismissed. Next!

I hate pvp, I think it is completely unbalanced and engineers is a laughable joke.

Still, random systems with mad laws would add a little more variation and colour to a very bland and stagnant game.

BUT tbh, a mutual gentlemans agreement in a private group isn't a bad idea at all. As per Mobius it allows any rules to be dreamed up by the players, and anyone not conforming can be permanently booted.

It's really not a bad idea at all.

OPEN is way too chaotic for gentleman agreements. Someone will always feel the need to urinate on your sand castle.

Heh, says something when the PvPers state they want somewhere to fight without engineering and the PvEers also say they don't want engineers...

Which is a nice idea in theory, but unlike Mobius you can't really identify those not conforming.

Checking whether a ship has engineered modules isn't quite as achievable as checking whether someone blew up another player... :(

Tell me how!
How can we know, that someone uses modded shield boosters? Or a modded power plant? Or has more chaffs?
It is simply impossible - which would directly lead to endless discussions.

Don't have any issues with this suggestion because it doesn't really affect me. Im on the opposite end of the scale as in I don't have any mods that would stop me anyway because I ignore rngeers entirely...I don't do pvp so don't need to stress out over something I don't actually care about or need.

If this was implemented, I might be tempted to try a little pvp, or at least learn the basics...without it, theres always solo or pg and a forum full of salt to enjoy ^

Edit...on reflection after thinking about it a bit more, this would be one the few workable suggestions that could potentially make me want to play in open. As it stands now, I see most pvp players learned the pvp game before the engineers which is something I never had the option of. Without mods now, death is swift, brutal, expensive and one is incapable of learning anything in a 5 second explosion of fireworks.

If there was an option to learn the basics, then loss would still be an issue, but with it would come a better understanding of the areas in which I need to improve. Engineers negates this entirely ergo one cannot even learn the fundamental basics.

Fairly sure if ye were to ask everyone who avoids open pvp if there was a place where they could go where there would be no mods, there would still be many who would scoff at the idea...also fairly sure some like me would jump at the chance. Ye want more players in open? Here is one the first actually viable solutions Ive yet seen...food fer thought.

Against it? Then enjoy open while the rest of us avoid it...have fun coming up with another viable alternative^

We can't use all ships in CQC.
We can't do proper RP in CQC.
We don't want short-term pew pew fun. We want at least one lasting system, with a story behind it and stations and missions - but only without mods.
We want the fights to feel more meaningful than in CQC.

You're calling for removal of mods.
You want a level playing field.

That's CQC.
That's what it's for.

CQC is where piloting skillz and judgement of what to do with a base loadout are what count.

But no one actually wants a level playing field.

We make all these calls for "cheap rebuys" "PvP consent zones" "get rid of griefers" "this PvP meta is too OP" "level playing field"
And Frontier try to service those calls with CQC.

And we laugh at everyone who has any CQC rank.
We wear our HELPLESS 0% with pride.
So Frontier will devote no further developer resources to it.

And it will be pointless to ask for "all ships in CQC" which is basically what you want.
A space where ships of known characteristics can duke it out.
It will be pointless because CQC is going to wither on the vine.

Unused.

And we will continue to make calls for changes to PvP - for all the things they tried to provide with CQC.

We don't want to match each other and compete on a level playing field where the only thing that counts is skillz.
We want to bring the power that we earned through grinding and smash those weaker than us.

The OP only asks for a single system where Engineer mods are disabled upon entering the system. Out of 99 billion systems out there, we suddenly can't spare one for a funky experiment in gameplay? C'mon now.

My opinion: why not. PvP was way more inclusive and accessible before the RNGineers and combat was certainly way more balanced before all the crazy weapon mods (silent running has already since been nerfed). I say go for it. A single PvP system proving ground for those that want to get their PvP fix in while they grind away at the RNGineers so they can be competitive in the other 99 billion systems. Where's the harm in that?
