The Star Citizen Thread v5

CIG needs to start offering free online personality tests: no matter how you answer them, the solution is buying a "specific ship tailored to your needs." With an exciting discount if you pay in cash. How can you pass up such an offer? I convinced several of my friends to buy ships this week and a famous celebrity at a local sporting event declared this game to be the best ever.

Love the theory crafting, but most backers don't seem to realize how big of a programming hell is coming with such fidelity, and that's still not counting the cargo interaction with AI, npc, the whole economy system, the faction/political power system, the whole mmo dynamism systems and other systems I may not be able to think about.

And they have to make sure ALL OF THEM to somehow works in sync with all players across the globe via normal internet system that the majority is using today.

After being told repeatedly in the thread that CIG can't and shouldn't be held accountable for their promises thanks to their use of weasel worded evasive marketing, I find myself trusting them even less and now hide my wallet before checking this forum.

Well done SC supporters on your most recent Pyrrhic victory.

An article on massivelop.com about Star Citizen

Chris Roberts has swooped in to provide some context and explanation for the roadmap. He said that the early summer jump to the alpha 3.0 build of the game will greatly expand on what Star Citizen can do and offer. The June update will contain a trio of moons to explore and the possibility of a large asteroid as well. “When you see a planet or moon, you will be able to fly there, land and explore on foot, or from your ship or a ground vehicle you have brought with you. All seamlessly, all with the incredible first person detail that Star Citizen is known for,” Roberts said. “With this we are delivering something that goes way beyond the initial promises and conception of Star Citizen; we will be simulating a first-person universe with almost no limits.”

Plenty of jocularity in the comments about the grandiose, hyperbolic claims of a 3 moon, 1 asteroid, single system, limitless universe.

Three whole moons!

Well, hey. KSP, which also began development in 2011, took almost a year and a half before they added a bunch of planets and moons. And a full year to add persistence. Compared to that, SC is… wait, I was going somewhere with this, but I forgot where.

Is CR just incapable of keeping his words straight?
He says in that blurb "With 3.0 you'll be able to fly to any planet, land and explore it by foot, ground vehicle or ship..." and yet none of that will be possible to do on planets in 3.0
What is wrong with the guy?

Cheers welcome back Rolan, missed you man, at least you dont try to pick a fight over nothing and be stubborn as an oxe :)

/hugs

Oh, there is enough people like that in both sides here, I just have my opinion and some information from time to time. I don't have any need to impose my truth (my version of it ofc) to the rest.

I just want to spread galician love [heart]

Well, they dont have to have ALL mechanics at launch.

Afaik the basic cargo system will be similar to elite with a storefront but crates will be physical objects.

Some will most likely be possible to make but they have to be realistic in what is useful to add in the game.

Economy system and faction is most likely server base so player only see it like in Elite with system economy status and when docked.

The game will not really have to keep track on every individual crate except those interacted with by players.

The idea was that cargo is "physically" shipped by NPCs, so that pirates can have an influence on the market. But it wouldn´t be the first game, where this idea was mentioned in the early design phase and than scrapped later on (was it X-Rebirth???)...

X:R actually did it. Super buggyvat first but works now. :)

X has been doing that since the first X game, but the cargo in there has no physicality when inside your ship and there is no multi layered physics system like sc aim to have... you can say sc is actually x on steroids, and here it mean a tons of steroids... with mmo interactivity.

still I'm very skeptical on how are they able to make those features works in an mmo both at gameplay wise and technical wise... had this been single player like x I'd be far more optimistic at this point.

There were ships where doors weren't large enough to let cargo through, weren't they? Are they still waiting to be refactored?

What if you got 1 crate of a particular goods you want to sell but is stored under many layers of other goods? Will be comical...

X:r actually has individually modelled cargo: if a drone is shot down when unloading, one cargo unit is removed from the economy. :)

Not in the first, 3.0 iteration, though, which makes it marginally inferior to the ED's implementation, where cargo can be made physical on demand. I'm not sure if the handling of SC ships is going to be affected in the first iteration.

Citizens of the Stars gets down voted for lack of content and people are blaming the fact they interview a Transgendered streamer. Very clever Chris, very clever indeed to deflect the attention from your half baked tech demo bore fest.
