ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

Theres a photo of David playing ED using the DK2 somewhere around...

Maybe it doesn't work with the public release... Did you set it up correctly?

Edit: Found it:

I didn't notice this before - but there is no barrel distortion on that photo. That only usually happens when the Rift isn't connected!! (Or not fully / correctly implemented):eek::eek::eek:

:D

Yep he's part of FD.

I'd say that with the DK2 release creeping closer and FD have had time to test the DK2 they are on top of it.

When they decide to add compatibility for the DK2 is anyones guess at the moment.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's in the next release, but that is purely conjecture on my part.

ok, thanks for the info. I'll just wait a while for an update then.

Is it okay for me to raise a ticket for merk? I'd really like to ensure that DK2 support is there when mine eventually plops through my letterbox.

Well, welcome to the grand daddy of all open world games. :D
Did you try it at E3 with the OR?
no. The banner i saw sounded good, but the graphics on it made it look like it was some arcade type game, so i was going to skip going to their booth. I only swung by it at the last second before we left and it looked really good. Unfortunately by then I didn't have time to wait and try it out.

So i'll give it a whirl tomorrow (today now i guess) with the dk1. although so far I'm finding flying with the mouse and keyboard to be less then ideal ;p

Hehe.. there are some here who are able to fly remarkably well using just mouse and keyboard.. but yeah, I'm not among them. I recommend getting a HOTAS.

I agree - I ordered a Saitek X-55 so I could assign practically anything to the HOTAS. Having used my Oculus Rift DK1 with an exploration space sim I developed (just a prototype), I'd have to say I'll never get excited about seeing games on a flat screen ever again. So if I have a VR headset on for space sims (and anything else), my hands need to be always on the controls.

Oculus will have been sending out HD prototypes to key developers all along. The DK2 is just a line in the sand for 'mass' production. I have to say I'm looking forward to the email saying that my DK2 has shipped!

Haven't got a Rift yet - waiting impatiently for the CV1, but one of the main reasons I bought a HOTAS (CH) was because of the need to have all the controls available while wearing the Rift.

Expensive I guess, but worth it in the long run. Even without the Rift, I wouldn't like to play E: D any other way now. At all.

That's exactly how I feel about my X55. I never have to look down at it to find a control (even the toggles on the throttle base) so I'm fairly confident that it will be a good match for the Rift.

You have all controls available on a joypad/joystick and the ship menus.
You have all controls available on a joypad/joystick and voice attack.

When playing on the pad before and after I bought voice attack I did not need to use the keyboard.

Different strokes for different folks. Expensive kit is not required and if it was then FD would have failed at their job.
