Computer feminization

I think the problem with that is that contemporary speech synthesis is pretty limited sounding, except for the very high-end expensive products (AT&T, Natural Voices, etc)

It depends on where "expensive" is for an individual user :)

I use a female voice from Ivona, okay it did cost some money (49 euros iirc) but it does the job very nicely and seems good value to me.

The value proposition might be even higher for the speaker of languages that don't get direct support in-game.

Essentially, the engine is there in Windows ... it seems a shame not to use it.

Seriously? In a time where 99.99% of games reduce women to nothing more than sexual objects or victims to be rescued or used by grotesquely overbearing male heroes, Frontier has allowed Players to choose male or female characters on an EQUAL footing, without pandering to sexual fantasies.

My daughters and I thank you Frontier! :D

99.99% of characters who horrifically die in computer games, are male. I'd rather be a damsel in distress, than dead. We should keep the thread on track though.

The OP is "crying foul" because a female voice is used and completely ignores the steps Frontier has taken to include females in the game equal to their male counter parts by pointing out an irrelevant voice actor as being sexist and "pandering to the lowest common denominator".

I'm countering with the fact that:

A. Women are included, as equals to males in the game
B. Female character models are fully clothed
C. Female models don't have exaggerated body parts

Not having A, and including B and C would be pandering "to the lowest common denominator" , something the OP neglected to include or credit Frontier for having in the first place.

Fair enough, just not sure if you've read the whole of this (pretty big now) thread where a last warning was given by a mod that the thread would be closed if it continued being divisory and more about gender in general, rather than merely why male/female voices were used.

My bad, I read the OP and assumed this thread was about "pandering to the lowest common denominator" due to not having a choice between male or female computer voice, which is how I read it.

I can see now the OP was making a statement that Frontier is "pandering to the lowest common denominator" and THEN asked if there will be a choice. I assumed the two were related and didn't ignore the original accusation.

So, to that end, I'll agree, a choice is always a good thing.

I always get annoyed when computer voices are female in video games, that kind of pandering to the lowest common denominator is so obnoxious.

Will there be an option to have a male voice for computer voicing?

Its a known fact that people take more notice of female voices. It works at a subconscious level.

Female voices are easier to understand ..... Although women are not easy to understand. Hmm.

Picking up and running with tropes and ignoring the OP
