The Console Is Not Your Enemy

Its the same with PC GPU's. And they are twice the money of a new console..

You dont need to buy a new console, all games will play on it, just not as good as on the new console.. Pretty much the same with GPU's, you dont need to upgrade, its a choice..

So im sorry to say, but i dont understand your reply..

There is just as much "need" as you "need" a new GPU..

You dont "need" you "want"

My current GPU was £120 new. 6 years ago.
And the next one I want is between £130-180.
My upgrade won't be by choice, it'll be when my GPU dies. Lol

Just sayin'.

Not everyone buys a GTX 1080. :p

Still... That 5120 core Volta GPU looks sweet :D

Buy it buy it buy it buy it ;)

I got my gtx980 in black friday 2014. It was always meant to be a stepping stone to get me to the gtx1080 which i thought i would need for vr.... But i got to say the 980 continues to impress, its a great card and even in vr i rarely have to lower too many settings. Reckon i will get an 1180 or what ever the equivalent is tho in 12 months or so.

I hate the "buy all the shiney things" bug tho.

With over 300 mostly untouched games on my pc as wellcas a huge xb360 library and that is forgetting my vast retrogaming collection the last thing i needed was a new console...... But the easter sale at game on the ps4 pro was too much to ignore. I got it for 2 games, uncharted and horizon ZD. That was it.

I am now at 14 games barely a month later ;)

I think i need to go to an addicts meeting

The enemy is not the console, but it is part of a puzzle in cross plattform development.
Depending on the effort a company wants to put into their games development they will decide how much the individual platforms will be catered.
Making a single version running on both properly is easier and less time and money consuming effort than catering 2 different ones. Different ones will lead to a lot more stuff, like different testings needed, higher diversity of bugs etc.

So the console IS a competitior for devlopment ressources and features at the consoles are more performance limited than PC's because PC's usually upgrade over time..

Yea, ok Frank, I will give you that but the Amiga had Paula! :D
Anyways this PC vs Console thing, it has nothing on the great Amiga Vs Atari war. No one won that war by the way, all that is left is survivors and ancient BBS posts. ;)

If it weren't for the MIDI ports I wouldn't have got myself a keyboard and tried to learn how to play it, "delighting" the world with my virtuosity... okay maybe the Amiga is better <grin> I did buy an Amiga long after the Amiga/Atari wars were over

I guess back to the topic of the thread..

I did notice someone saying how the game they're looking forward to is Star Citizen as it would really test their ultra-expensive iron. Well I'm hoping that the game is released. Maybe it will mean there'll be less people playing Elite who have that mentality if they've all left to play that game instead.

Yeh and the console forums were full of posts begging for Telepresence right? Wrong.

No, but someone in marketing clearly thought that they could reach a broader audience by letting their standards of verisimilitude slip. This may or may not be related to consoles specifically, we will never know unless a Dev outright states as such, but it's a blatant attempt to breach into the casual market at the expense of the current one.

I'm happy that FD port the game to consoles. I don't like exclusives, I like it when everyone can enjoy a game no matter what format they have to play it on.
Pity that the money from these ports don't seem to be making it back into the game at all though. It feels to me at least that things have actually slowed down a lot since the Xbone port (not that is was very quick to begin with).
I don't begrudge console players for that though, it's not their fault.

Why can ye not access yer emails on the console? I can do it in 3 presses of the button A, same as logging into either my business or personal bank account...pay my mortgage, my rates, my daughters school fees, watch or download adult content.

I can make movies by telling cortana to start recording...no button presses at all just the power of speech bit like star trek...I use some freebie ms editor to...well edit them strangely enough. I access my entire music library through the console because it shares the same home network, and that includes my movie collection.

I can do all of that on console...and more...thats just of the top of me head ^

For email: Two step authentication and poor web browser integration kept me from using the browser on the XB1 or PS4 for anything other than random stuff. It's actually easier for me to do the things you mentioned on my phone via the apps provided by my bank than it is to kick on the console and start working their browser software. Ease of use is a factor here.

For video editing: Can you really though? Could you have put together something on par with all of the submissions in the CTRL+ALT+SPACE contest? Could you have cut down and added a 20 second clip from a song out of your library? I too, can press a button on my controller and start recording everything the PS4 is putting on the screen, no matter what my current activity is. Console editing software isn't even on the same level as Microsoft Movie Maker.

I don't think it was specifically in console forums, but I do recall having opponents in debates over telepresence. I was thinking about people in general when writing the line you quoted, and people do play consoles.

"The console is not your enemy!"

You are right, OP.

At my age one thing becomes clearer each day.

My enemy is time.

Worst ganker ever. Gets everyone eventually.

:p

Time for a sentence, brought to you entirely by androids predictive text.

Consoles and gaming experience in the morning of Friday night, the same time it was fun and difficult to implement but requires players to move along with it tomorrow afternoon.

That's what Android thinks.

This notion that console owners need to be able to do productivity work on their console is silliness. Email on a console? LOL, this isn't 1995. Most folks use their smartphones for email, along with video recording and editing and everything else listed. The reason a console is good at gaming is because it focuses on being good at gaming.

My PC is an older Macbook Pro (I had to go Mac for business reasons). It's terrific for all these productivity examples given. It's terrible for gaming. Hence, I own a PS4 for that. I would personally never mix productivity and gaming on the same machine, primarily because I don't trust all the DRM mechanisms used by game developers (Ubisoft, I'm looking at you). Then again, I don't trust Windows in general with my personal data. ;)

Email on a console.. HAHAHAHA!

Were these opponents console players or PC players though?

As a PS4 player I want FDev to keep the game as complex as possible (hell make it more complex, bring it) and not dumb it down for any reason, graphically or otherwise. I might not be speaking for all PS4 players, I am probably not but, I do believe I speak for most PS4 players I have come across on these forums. Why anyone would actually want to dumb the game down is beyond me.
