How do you deal with combat logging?

I've been dealing with a player lately who combat logs every time his conda looses shields, mind you that happens regardless of who initiates combat - he'll interdict me and then leave when loosing or when I'm on him he'll just pull the plug on his internet (he gets all kinds of laggy before disappearing) I've used report button in game allready, any other options?

Not much you can do but report them.

The only other options are to get video evidence and post it to the combat loggers sub-reddit, they'll find themselves hunted down a fair bit and on Kill-on-sight lists.
Find out if they are part of any in game groups and report them there, most if not all take a strong stance on cheating and will remove players for it.

Have you had any comms with them asking them why they think cheating is ok when they are loosing? And/or why they are interdicting you?

Failing all that I'd be tempted to station ram-scam them if this is a frequent occurrence always in the same system. That's the nuclear button though and comes fairly close to cheating/exploiting the game mechanics yourself.

On Xbox if you add someone as a friend you can see their location regardless if they add you back or even block you. The only way to hide your location is through the in game menu. I, among some friends, will add people who combat log and chase them throughout the bubble, wasting their time and forcing them out of open.

I've seen a lot of threads about griefing etc. Apparently the only way to grief in this game is by harassing players repeatedly, which you're admitting to doing. So I would be careful with that.

You mean 15-50 hours.

Note the 1-2 and "ideally" part. Opinions vary.

There are groups that will put the kiss of KOS on such individuals, other than that, the Devs have mentioned tracking such types in the possibly upcoming C&P system. When that will happen, anybody's guess.

And sure, w/ missions paying less, you won't see me in a Corvette at any hot-spot, two re-buys were enough to put me off.

In fact, I'm doing a one player boycott of hot spots for the foreseeable future (I know, one person, who cares, but it gives me a sense of satisfaction).

Funny, because its the griefers who usually combat log. In my experiences i would find gankers and the like, intridict and initiate combat, and if the fight is not going in their favor most of the time they would combat log. Besides, FDev doesn't have much authority on Xbox. Player behavior is monitored by Microsoft and there are the appropriate tools available to report someone if needed.

Report them every single time they do it. FD won't likely react to a single report. There is always a chance that their connection failed randomly. But if a history is built up, eventually a case is made.

Yeah you won't get any disagreement from me. I'm just going by other people's opinions. I was planning on hunting down some griefers with a friend myself, and told that it would be griefing to do so.

FD authority on xbox, yup they don't have it, but that doesn't stop them from preventing you access to their servers if they chose to (effectively banning you). The reporting and punishment system on xbox is a bit different matter, and results in a suspension or ban from the XBL service rather than a ban from a game.

Side bar: A player reports another for combat logging, and it happens enough times that FD contact the combat logging player. What action could FD take if the combat logging CMDR states something like "Yeah, it's crazy! Something about your networking is messed up - every time I get into PVP combat YOUR GAME kicks me off the server, it's as if instancing is bugged" ?

Given the history of the network stability, how do you suppose FD could counter this claim?

(P.S. I'm not a logger, nor have I had CMDRs combat log on me, I just wonder this question every time I see a combat logging thread, a few posts away from an instancing/network issue thread)

Have to agree with the Biscuit here, there are 2 levels of reporting. Microsoft probably won't do much with reports of cheaters or harassment, they'll only really care if you do something major which warrants the full scale XBL ban which is fairly nuclear.

Frontier on the other hand can easily use shadowbans or various other enforcements to stop you playing with other players or stop you playing Elite entirely. Won't stop your other xbox games working but they can do it.
Summary of the Frontier rules here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...update-Reiteration-of-player-harassment-rules

It may not be how it turns out but all been fair warned and all :)

Also Gunnet has the right answer that I missed - Block them, since 2.3 it has a greater affect (we think) on who you are likely to meet and instance with in space.

I'd say the counter arguement is in the OP, it only ever fails when you are loosing and we have statistics to prove that, if it was just your P2P connection you'd drop out when winning or neutral as well. Here's a temp ban, get your networking fixed or stay in solo/group avoiding PvP combat or risk more lengthy/permanent bans.
^would be my response.

I don't combat log, but I don't see it as a big issue. Just ignore/block him. Or do like I do: Play in solo. I never see any combat loggers (or griefers for that matter).

I just wonder about that, as there has been logged problems with the games networking, if it went legal and proof needed to be supplied. Actual proof. Is it there? Is it stronger than the history of network problems in game? If it IS there, why do FD even need you to report it?

When I see someone looking like combat logging I know it is very likely that his game game had a bad disconnect or a crash to desktop. This happens to me too often and it is one of the reasons why I avoid pvp if possible until Frontier gets their damn net code working!

Rejoice.

Be happy.

You have just proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that you were the better pilot.

You won.

Take the win.

In the game of Elite where your skill is just about the only 'end-game' to speak of, spanking another player in an Anaconda is no mean feat. Yeah, he could have just been bad as , but then again, your skill might have increased. I remember the very first time tangling with a Conda......got spanked.

Now?

No more spankings.

Enough rambling. Take the win and move on.
