Revisiting Piracy - My thoughts and your thoughts?

Yup. Been thinking of solo a few times for the first time since I started playing because I just wanted some progress on a community goal.

I don't mind piracy if it has some RP or if you put atleast a little bit of effort into it. But if you just go around shooting traders you should be punished severly. I do kind of hope I had a "cargo burner" for those occasions.

OK! I thought I'd try PvP Piracy (again) at this weeks CG...

I think I'm actually working at a CR loss... Add to that the (silly?) unchallenging new Hatch Breaker mechanic, and the unreasonable way cargo is strewn out of such long distances in such small amounts should you wish to actually try and Hatch Breaker a fleeing CMDR rather than mindlessly destroy them, there in truth just seems little reward or skill on any level.

So I think that's it for me now for Piracy until FD give it some long over due attention. And as Piracy was probably the last vestige of interest in any of the game's now dusty/tired mechanics... Hmmm...

On a side note, when I saw an image of an asteroid base, a glimmer of hope rose up that maybe these were new nefarious locations specifically aimed at new piracy gameplay/missions/reputations and mechanics. But no. Just more rebadged gameplay. ie: Regular stations with new exteriors.

ps: I have a good number of combat logs... Even Anacondas and the like. And even though I generally gave instructions before I interdicted, only ONE CMDR stopped to be scanned. All the rest I used hatch breakers on and/or gave their hulls a dent as a lesson. One blew just one CMDR up - A T9 I which got frustrated with due to the stupid hatch breaker mechanics, and as he wouldn't stop even though I took him down to 1% hull, and gave him warnings... I lost my rag and pressed fire, in truth at frustration with the game TBH!

I tried playing the pirate role today and found out it really isn't worth it , either PVP or PVE. Playing PVE just led to combat, bounty and the police swooping in. And most PVP traders play in solo mode. I don't see why frontier push pirate ship kits, war paint and flight suits whilst not investing in the actual
role play.

And then we had the most recent attempt at helping piracy, the idea to adjust the hatch breaker so no firing was even needed - ie: You can deploy it even against a fully shielded ship! So rather than making piracy more involved, it actually made it less so. Why not at least make it so you need to reduce the victim's shields down to one bar before you can lock it? And then increase (more random) security response times should you start hitting hull?
